My mum and dad went to Blackpool in 1973 and they went to a variety show and the headline act was basil brush.😀. Freddie Star was in the middle of the show doing impressions.
Wonderful to discover this! I played this to my children in the 1950s. when I worked for the Australian Government, as an agricultural officer, in Bougainville.
He could have spoken for another fortnight for me. What a fascinating man and wonderful entertainer. Thank you for sharing this insight into a hugely popular and inspirational performer from the bygone era of entertainment.
I had the pleasure and laughter of seeing this wonderful and very funny couple in the Arcadia Theatre back in the seventies ... REST IN PEACE Ted & Hilda ... we will never forget you.
Thanks Barry, I liked your film at Finsbury Park. It shows the signalman switching her over to down slow 2 just north of the station. By doing that he could halt her for 10 minutes at Wood Green waiting for a path without blocking anything. At that time on a weekday morning they had to get her out of the Cross. Moray
Thanks for your kind words Barry. You do have to be careful at this end of the ECML. A passing train can easily block the view. I like the country end of the Up platform at Wood Green, but there's the double risk of an Up service blocking the shot, or a down fast service doing the same if she comes through on the down slow. I've just seen your clip at Hornsey - excellent. Moray
Great shot. I was really worried that the 313 would block my view but Ollie was early. A like from me. If you haven't looked at my clip at Hornsey please do so and comment it would be nice to hear from you. Barry
Thanks - perhaps they have found the right coal at last. But it was COLD at Harringay this morning. I was the only one there to see her. I wonder why !
Being your first viewer I should say nice vid - enjoyed watching the magnificent Tornado accelerating her train with those crisps barks from the exhaust!!! :-) TU
Jay Aston (a member of Bucks Fizz the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest Winners) and Lance Aston are Ted and Hilda's children. Lance also participated in ESC in 1980 with a group called Prima Donna and is married to Marcella Detroit (formerly of Shakespear's Sister).
...Intertesting. Well you did not need to go to the trouble, a great capture none the less. In previous videos taken at Hadley Wood (and most other places to be honest) as half the train has passed a signal it usually changes to red. And I am a bit nerdy and spot the small things haha.
