Thank you so much for putting a smile on my face and the memories of such fabulous tunes , i got married in 2023 to my beautiful wife and played "Duke of Earl" as she walked down the isle as she's my southern duchess 💓
Saw them twice in the 70's at Leicester's De Montfort Hall. Brilliant entertainment. On first visit, Den climbed stage speaker stack onto first floor balcony and sat astride some unnerved bloke who wondered what he'd let himself in for comfronted face to face with riot in cell block number 9 mock-menacingly only inches away lol
Some over the top embellishing from Danny Baker there. For 21 top 20 hits, try eight; and for 9 top 10s, try six. That was no mean feat in those days, so no need to exaggerate (but it is Danny Baker after all). At least he got the three #2 hits right. Also, Griff was mistaken when he said 'Come Back My Love' was #2 to 'Wuthering Heights'; it was actually ABBA's 'Take A Chance On Me' (still one of the year's best-sellers though).
❤oh man absolutely fine. Brilliant boyhood memories for me. This must be the band that I first seriously got into..🎉I'm 55 now and this has got me reminiscing. Now, this band was wild for its time. Love them..
Love Darts. Simply Superb. Largely forgotten? Never! And Rita! Oh Rita!! Ritaaaaaaa!!! Cause of my teenage hormones to explode (and I mean explode). Not to mention cause of my lifelong abhorrence of racism - everyone was white where I grew up. That hip wiggle!!!! OMG!!!!! Beyond brilliant!!!!!!
In the 70,s my band was filling in for the House Band at The Crystal Room (cabaret).Hereford. The top of the bill were Darts. They had Rob Davis(Mud guitarist) also Kenny Andrews (fantastic bass vocals). They were great fun.(party night). The piano player used a Yamaha stage electric grand (cp 70). He played a blistering version of Nut Rocker. I’ve been a fan ever since.
Had never heard of them until I heard their version of Don’t Mess Around With Love on a Carolina Beach Music playlist ! Wow ! What a song ! So I checked them out on RU-vid. Love them !
They were on top of the pops in `77 -`78 almost as often as Slade were 5 years before. When i hear Daddy Cool i instantly remember Darts.Top of the Pops at that time were really the pop show to watch if you as a 12 year old kid.
Love Darts. The only band whose fan club I joined. I was fan number 21. Still got the signed photo of them all. Saw them at Sheffield City Hall and remember Den Hegarty climbing up the stage curtains.
' Come back my love ' was the first single I fell in love with.Always seemed to be in the charts . God they must have had a blast, and different characters.Den's very agile 34:00
Always liked this band. I was stage roadie for Den Hegarty and the Random Band at Dingwalls in 1980. What a fantastic bunch of great people as well as awesome players/singers. Big Den attacked me while I was keeping watch in the wings and (evidently) when I was on stage helping the girl Singer - who was having microphone trouble - he was behind me making lewd gestures. An absolute privelige.
Who doesn't love Darts an intro duction to rock n roll,do wop for teens.see Den Hegarty at twinwoods with the Thunderbirds.always thought he's not the full ticket in a proper showman sort of way
One of the greatest bands of the 70's however I can remember watching a late night gig on I'm sure it was ITV, if it exists on video anywhere can someone please tell me where I can get a copy??
Brings back very happy memories watching this. I remember getting dressed up to go see Darts in Yakety Yak, then getting invited up on the stage to dance at the end. Also saw them at the 100 Club in late 2000s. Always loved the band and I hope they keep going as long as they can. Thanks.
Forgotten??? Not by me I still play their albums regularly always will have a soft spot for them as I was Teddy boy in the 70s their first album is still my favourite. Great band and will never be forgotten they were Ace👍
