Half of America is single. The way people seek and find love has radically changed. The hook-up, texting and social media culture have profoundly altered the dating landscape. Traditional dating has become “outdated,” yet men and women still seek meaningful relationships. People are frustrated in love, but does anyone really know how to connect in today’s virtual world?
THE DATING PROJECT is a new non-fiction film from executive producer Steve McEveety (The Passion of the Christ, Braveheart), produced by Paulist Productions, Mpower Pictures and Family Theater Productions that follows five single people, ages 18-40, as they search for authentic and meaningful relationships. There is no script. There are no actors. These are real people trying to find love and happiness in an age of swiping left or right.
"Dating" is only about 100 years old, so I don't know if it's a tradition exactly. How the mating dance is done is always evolving, but it should be critiqued against lasting values.
Its not rocket science. Our grandparents lasted happily because of gender roles and family values. But no, the women now would rather sit in offices bowing to their employers like doormats than be at home and happy.
Nice to see that people are starting to wake up from the insanity and selfish culture we have turned into. Not only that but the "hookup culture is destroying families and morals. 💏💑💑👪👫

Either your assumption that men only want your body is evidence of conceitedness, or you are asexual and expect a man to think of you the exact way you think of him. Here's an axiom for you to imprint in your mind- *Men love women for who they are; women love men for what they can do for them.* Of course a guy will be looking forward to having sex with you. You're not looking for a big brother, or a new dad, are you? Now, just because he loves your body, doesn't mean this is the ONLY thing he will love. But for a man, it's one of the best parts of youthful romance. Take it away, or belittle it, as most Christians do, and you push men away, treat them like perverts, and expect them to be slaves in a relationship that mostly benefits the female. We are expected to pay for your dinner, hold doors open for you, bring home the bacon, protect you, and keep you happy, and if we fail in this, then the law takes your side and demonizes us men. For a man to desire sex with a beautiful women does not make him evil, nor does it take away from how well he can provide for you. Now don't mistake what I say as advice for women to be sleazy and flaunt their bodies, but just be very careful about suggesting a man is perverted or wicked for simply wanting to feel a women's body before he dies. If you do, you've shot yourself in the foot and will most likely end up an old cat lady. Cheers!

This is to Shanzi: I've learned that sweeping generalizations are a type of logical fallacy, as very few things are true about everyone or everyone of a certain group, and one example is all it takes to disprove something. You may not believe me, but I'm that one example that disproves your sweeping generalization about everyone, and I'm not the only person who is. I identify as aromantic, which means I don't have romantic feelings. There are more of us than most people realize, and I really don't appreciate being expected to want something just because our society says everyone is supposed to want it. So I'd appreciate if whoever is reading this could try not to apply statements like that to everyone since you don't know everyone.
So, basically this professor is using her position as a professor to push her stone age mythology onto her students. If you think that's OK, would it be OK for a professor to stipulate that their students have to try dating in accordance with islamic law? If not, why not? I mean, if a professor can use their position to push your stone age mythology, why can't one use it for some other stone age mythology? My suggestion? Maybe professors shouldn't use their power to push any religion.
Trake 2118 maybe religion aside our generation should try some "old-school" traditions of dating (i.e. actually go up to the person you like and ask them on a date, call them, etc.). it's not like the current way of dating has made it made being single easier.
Kera Atkins, I really don't think the problem is the way we date. Early on in life, women are incentivized to go after an education and setting up their career while dating and sleeping with guys with game/alphas/bad boys/whatever you want to call them. Later in life many women chose more of a useful guy to marry as a provider. That means guys are incentivized to learn game and be that guy that women genuinely love. If you are that guy, you'll be fine dating or not. If you aren't that guy, dating isn't going to be any good for you. Why should I go to woman after woman asking for a date so that I can be stood up over and over again and maybe actually go on a date from time to time with a woman that has no actual interest in me? If a woman wants to marry you, odds are she doesn't love you. If a woman wants to sleep with you early on, she probably loves you. If you're going to put in an effort, the only reasonable way to go is to pro sue the women looking for love, not the ones looking for marriage and children. Sure, the ones looking for love are tough to appeal to, but at least they are worth it if you can manage. The worst race isn't the one where few people win. It's the one where they shoot the winner.
Moises Morales, I'm not sure I understand your question. Certainly dating isn't something that only religious people do, though it is something which religions tend to have lots of rules for. Religions tend to be about power and control and certainly tend to especially focus on controlling people's sexuality. The point that I was making is that this professor is wanting to use her position to push a set of dating rules that is based on her religion, not that only religious people date.

There is nothing religiously related to that rather it's a formal way to court a person into a romantic relationship rather than just the "hook up culture" or were I'm from "hit it and quit it". Rather than objectifying someone by the hit "it" and quit "it" or (talking in forms of grammar rules "it" is a pronoun that is used to describe an object or talk about the subject) hook up culture you take away the dignity away from the human person when you just use them for self gratification and objectify someone. Would you like to be treated with respect and be truly loved or only be used for your physical or economic attributes? What the perfessor is trying to encourage is something we have lost in the mists of materialism, individualism, narcissism, and many other ideologies that have striped from our human race of being truly human. Did religion influence dating possibly yes, but it is not the reason people dated.
I see the sense in going MGTOW, but who cares what a some cattle-sacrificing-primitive from a few thousand years ago did/didn't do? There have been many saviors that have had followers that claimed they could do miracles. I see no reason to think Jesus any more remarkable than any of the rest of them.

My person feelings on dinner is the guy should always pay for the first time. If a girl offers to slit then take her up on that if you want. That's another confusing thing these girls now. But bringing the baggage of a hookup history (e.g., having to tell your future husband or wife "Um, before we do this, I should tell you I have 2 STIs" or 'I wish I could get (him or her) out of my head but I just can't seem to') will almost always be a less effective way to permanent marriage than old school dating. It's a reason (one of many, certainly) that almost all post-old school dating marriages lasted while some half of post-sexual revolution ones don't. But what the movie may show is that old school dating - getting to know the person first and the body later - is far more rewarding than hookup.

I know lots of couples, some even married, who met on tinder... and lots from hooking up...it's not for everyone, and old school is fine, but I would really stop short of saying old school is the best...
