Hi there. I enjoyed all of your videos. I loved the fact that you show large, unedited portions of the roads and in specific the Bartang valley. It gave me a good insight on what to expect in regards to road/track conditions. If you don't mind me asking, what tires did you use in the Pamirs? I can tell that they are not the typical knobby type of tire one would expect and this really intrigued me. I am not here to shame or judge your tire preference. I am asking because I set off for the Pamirs in June and was planing on doing amongst others, the Bartang valley and the Zorkul national park routes. Sadly I only made it to Russia and had to return to Europe due to technical issues. I set off on the K60 Scout tires knowing that they would be good for the entirety of the trip and especially for the off-road sections in the Pamirs. Much to my disappointment I realized that the K60's are horrible for highway speeds above 110 Km/h. They would wobble a lot forcing me to maintain speeds below 100 Km/h which made for very long days on the saddle. They also track rain grooves, and other type of grooves like magnets which gave me a lot of scares, especially in Turkey. Given that the round-trip to Tajikistan and back is approximately 18K, and the off road in the Pamirs is only 2.5K of that, I dread the idea of travelling for miles on end on 50/50 tires like the K60 or E07 (although I am pleased with the on-road manners of the E07+). I am currently using the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires. They are marketed as a 50/50 tyre. They are capable for off-road but not to the extent of a knobby tyre. Besides of the longevity which suits the mileage needed for the Tajikistan round-trip, they also have awesome on-road manners at highway speeds exceeding 140 Km/h. To my point, seeing how you managed the Pamirs on a non knobby tyre I am really considering the Trailmax Mission tires (which are as stated capable, not the best but capable for off-road use) as a contestant for my trip to Tajikistan next summer. What are your thoughts? I did notice in your videos the front tire slipping on a few occasions. Did you have second thoughts on your tire choice? Would you have preferred a more knobby tire? Do you think that the Mission tires will be "Okay" and up to the job or should I go for a knobby tire in order to be sure and confident while in the Pamirs? I would love to read your feedback.
Hey, yes I did finished it. I ended day 2 in Sary-Tash. There were few little more demanding places, like sunken and muddy sections, and one or two dodgy looking bridges. I suggest checking iOverlander app for updates on landslides , and other hazards that may popped up after winter and rainfalls. That place was just awesome. You will love it!
