Just stumbled on your 310 video when I saw the words Tyabb and Balnarring appear! I used to live in Mornington, then Narre Warren and Berwick from 2000 to 2007. Back then, I used to take my 3 kids over to Tyabb and Tooradin airfields most weekends when they were little to watch the planes and play at the playgrounds. Used to to work all over the state, so spent many days roaming the peninsula and Western Port areas. A great experience for your girls in the mighty T310R! Very sad to read here that the plane crashed and the owners died. I finally took my kids for their first fly in 2009 in a local C172 when I got current again here in New Zealand. Best wishes from Christchurch.
Its all fun and games until someone loses a hat , or hits a floating telegraph pole ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, let me explain , next time anyone heads out a dawn at high speed , anything can be in the water as we found out one morning , heading out for a dawn fish , beautiful flat conditions , until at the last minute we saw a little ripple in a line so we slowed down and yep , a 6 or 7 m long pole , floating just below the surface ,,,,,,,,,,,, just saying.
I read the report....it sounded like they had an engine out and got too slow and spun it in. It said the owner and a woman were on board. I can't help but think they orphaned those two little girls...UGH...that is horrible...
@@russ254 you think people fly to be unsafe? What a stupid thing to say…safety is 100% the key to all training from day one and a long flying career and no pilot Ive ever known in my 40yrs of flying uses the term “sport flying”. Your clearly not a pilot. For the record…I knew the pilot (Grant) in this video.
Those RAM conversions. Everybody wants to strap a rocket engine on these airplanes, unnecessary. Having said that, I had a factory 1976 T310R. What a great airplane. Lucky for me I finally realized it was a very dangerous airplane for my weekend flier skill set and sold it after couple hundred hours. Went back to SEL. Thinking same probably applies to this owner. Beware for your family's sake sell it before you experience engine failure.
Steve, I've noticed you are trolling every 310 video out there with your "opinion". It's pathetic behavior. So it's too much aircraft for YOU, doesn't mean it's too much aircraft for others. An engine failure in your SEL is a guaranteed incident. The same cannot be said for an engine failure in any twin. You are spouting absolute garbage. Using your own logic, you should sell your SEL for your families sake in case you have an engine failure!! Moron.
Ok Z1Z, go get em and all good wishes. Just hoping all your single engine work is done at 5k feet with a safety pilot on board like mine was and not in a critical phase of flight with your family on board.
"It was a very dangerous airplane for my weekend flyer skill set..." I believe the more accurate phrasing of this statement would be, "My weekend flyer skill set was a very dangerous thing in the cockpit of an otherwise exceptionally safe and capable airplane."
This is the best looking and probably best equipped Cessna T310R I have ever seem. I went to look for more information on this plane to see if I could find out what upgrades had been made and to see what the overall cost of this aircraft was. I would imagine the owner, or whoever made the upgrades were in it for US $400K+. Unfortunately what I found on T310R VH-JMW, was that it was involved in a fatal crash in Australia on October 28,2017. The pilot owner and his girlfriend were both killed. The pilot's name was Grant Burley. He was a Sydney business man, and the story from his friends and family described a really great human being and a very experienced pilot. Really sad story! I have always wondered why it seems that the world is awash with people that are real buttholes at best...and full blown psychopaths at worst... they seem to be bullet proof. But let someone who has a lot to offer the world and their life is cut short. Here are a couple of links if anyone is interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0hztY5wZo9Q.html www.9news.com.au/videos/cj9cglxb6003g0ho83531jhsw/sydney-businessman-and-partner-identified-as-plane-crash-victims
Unfortunately yes this aircraft was involved in a tragic accident and yes the pilot was married to my aunty (Who passed away a few years back now). This was very tragic as you said he gave so much but life was cut short. It was the best 310r by an absolute mile. Such an accomplished pilot.
The video has given me joy for several years it is just wonderful in how it captures the joy of flight. I have now just read your comment and I am in tears. I am so sorry for your loss.
Hello ellbri12, Great video!! I would like to invite you to join "Cessna31 Flyers" in FB and share us 310 owners and Pilots your great experiences. Cheers!
awesome from a previous c310Q owner and son of an airline pilot, brought back great memories. also i was the girls age when my dad bought his 1st plane a 60's era piper tripacer .
dbowlds hi there. To be honest this isn't my plane. It is a friends plane. I do know that he had a lot of work done to the engines. This plane does hold the air land speed record too.
dbowlds You can purchase a Riley Turbo Stream C310 which has turbo charged 350 horse power Piper Navajo engines. That thing is totally wicked!! Riley did those conversions only on Q model 310s (1970-1974) to my knowledge.
I had never heard of this aircraft until your reply. Very interesting. Those are strong engines especially with the larger turbos they put on for the panther conversions. 700 HP in a 310 would be amazing climb performance. That said I don't like the airframe as much on the older 310's Personally I'd prefer the slightly longer nose of the newer ones. I couldn't find any currently for sale but I'll keep my eyes out for one. I'm guessing owners that have them probably don't sell them very frequently. Not unlike the Ram 4 series 310's.
dbowlds For sure it is a monster. The 310 did go to 400 series nose gear in the1969P Model so that year up is a big improvement. Plus they have added (As an AD) side brace kits to the main gear The Turbo Streams are rare for sure.
The Riley Turbostream mods apply to C-310 models P and Q, the were powered with Lycoming TIO-540's de-rated to 325 HP from the 350's used in Navajo Chieftains, also Jack Riley used the cowlings from Navajo's as well.
