Welcome to DM Acid Racing, the former home for AcidCat620.
As my Caterham 620R was factory painted in Porsche Acid Green, the name #Acidcat620 was born and as I move forward in my motorsport journey this will continue in the name, DM Acid Racing and will be prominent in the livery on my cars.
This is my third year tracking a car, where I started as a complete amateur driver, however I am now solely focused on becoming a amateur racing driver.
You are joining at a pivotal point in my journey. The 620r is now SOLD and my focus is on being competitive in 2025 for the full season in the Caterham Seven Championship UK (CSCUK).
This means that my content is going to be focused on what I am doing to go from 'track day fast' to 'racing driver fast'.
I have a number of test days and races lined up as we start to dial up the skills ahead of gridding up in 2025.
This is so fast! My 420r SV I cannot get round as fast as you! Do you know what your car weighs? And I bet the sequential and slicks and take a fair chunk off? We are 10 seconds behind you on a lap though.
Thanks for the comment 🤙🏻 Car weighs around 630kg with me in it. Slicks probably give me 4 seconds a lap and the sequential probably another 4 seconds a lap if I had to guess 🤷🏼♂️ Means you are there or thereabouts! With a tow and fresh tyres it’s possible to do 35’s but I’d probably be 36.4 🫡🏎️🚀
@@DMAcidRacing thanks for the reply. Makes me feel a bit better tbh. my coach did a 1:44 on ar1 and our car no driver weighs 588kg with approx 35L of fuel in.
@@TomSeaman my car is 545kg without driver but with fuel 🤙🏻 Means the car is actual 650kg with me in it atm 😂 our minimum weight with driver is 635kg. 🏎️
@@DMAcidRacing fair enough. So our car isn’t as much heavier being a road based car and an SV as I thought. I’d really like to buy your 620 but our just isn’t worth enough as an exchange to someone. I make the car heavy. Me fuel and the car is 750kg so I’m rather chuffed I can do a 1:48.26 with my power to weight ratio and if you say I’m losing approx 8 seconds to tyres and gear box.
Thanks for the comment. You are not wrong, but it’s especially dicey when it rains on slicks 🫣 luckily some of the circuit was dry so I could keep temp 🏎️🤙🏻
@@Motor_Alchemist thanks for the comment! I believe it’s because they are lighter and Caterham wanted to manage the performance step up from 310… however I will be sure to ask Caterham next week and report that facts back! 😂🏎️🤙🏻
@@DMAcidRacing Excellent 😂 I look forward to the answer. While you’re speaking to them ask when they’re going to fill the gap between the 420R and 620 model 😀
Great video - Been a fan of your videos for a while, in fact it’s what inspired to me to get my 620R, picked it up yesterday! Any tips / things to watch out for on the 620R?
Thanks for the comment. Amazing to hear I’ve helped inspire someone else into a 620R. Congratulations, you will not be disappointed! It really depends on if the car is new or 2nd hand. Lots of people messy with Caterham’s so I think the best thing to do is get the car set up for you. DPR Motorsport are the best in the game and have experience of running mine for 2 years. After that it is simple maintenance. In terms of the driving experience, the key to any Caterham is the more you push the more it delivers. However, that carry’s the obvious risk. If you are on Instagram drop me a message and we can chat more 🤙🏻 Good luck, look forward to seeing some videos on your channel! 🏎️🚀
Very nice driving, did you manage to run a sub 2.00? I'm always amazed on some of the lines the fast guys like you are taking... I seem to overrun the two slow corners, need to close the line a lot quicker 😬,well done 😊
Thanks for another comment 🤙🏻 Yes I have dipped below 2, however I want to show this on my next visit in May. I can say this in the comments because only people who comment read them 😂 Still off the pace for the CSCUK guys who are running almost 1:58 dead, so have a second to find 👀🏎️🚀
@@DMAcidRacing good luck in achieving this... I'm there tomorrow, weather is a mixed and match but hoping to get a few hours of dry time so I can test the ad09 setup on the golf. Last dry session there with Michelin ps4 my best was 2.14.20... I'm hoping to slash 4 to 5 seconds of that 🫣😄...
@@aleks_the_Great13 Enjoy! I think you might get some dry running today. However damp and wet running is where you can really show your speed tbh. Good luck on sub 2:10 just remember Montreal and Oggies just send it in fast, park it and send it out. Defo don’t want to be going further than you need to. Good luck on sub 2:10 🤙🏻🏎️🚀
Thanks for the comment. It is exactly the same specification. On the straights where he was able to slipstream this would be a huge advantage. However, from watching it back just now, I think he just has a slightly better engine. That's sometimes the way it is 🤷🏼♂️ Fortunately this was just a hire car and my CSCUK car appears to have a decent engine, so this shouldn't happen again 🤙🏻🏎🚀
Thanks mate. Completely out gunned on power but the purpose was to get signatures and we achieved that.✍🏻 Unfortunately my memory card failed when I raced with Caterhams the week before, which had some great battles 🙏🏻 🏎
Thanks for the comment Lee 🤙🏻 If prefer the 620 without a doubt. The thing is outrageous 🤯🚀 My 420 is CSCUK spec so 180bhp instead of the street going 210bhp. Still the 2.0 ford duratec just tuned differently. Thanks DM 🏎🚀
Thanks for the comment! Yeah got greedy on the wrong tyres 🫣 but it’s tough as I took curb the lap before and it was fine, but the conditions were getting worse and second time around it wasn’t fine 🙄😂🏎🚀
93 MPH when you started spinning. New pants time pal. That's some driving in those conditions. Been looking forward to the Donington testing day. Well done pal.
Thanks fella 🙏🏻 Yeah they was nothing I could do with the spin apart from hope I didn't hit a barrier or roll 😂 Its fair to say I will learn my lesson about pushing my luck on intermediate tyres in the wet! 🏎🚀
@@DMAcidRacing Unfortunate timing with the Inters BUT, You found a limit and every racer has to find them, Plus you still gave it the beans after. Looking forward to coming to a couple of races when I can.
@@MikeSmith-rd9fiI had taken the full wets off as I felt the track was starting to dry, however it started raining between taking them off and going back out. I should have just came in after my outlap but I felt like they was grip 🤷🏼♂️🏎
Thanks for the comment. On different days they run different layout. This was the slightly shorter National Layout. I will be uploading more footage this weekend as I am back at the track tomorrow on the Grand Prix layout 🤙🏻🏎🚀
Superb pal and good luck for your first venture into racing. Hope you enjoy it to the full and come out a winner. I have a Westy myself and love a trackday and equally a very early Sunday morning blast. Nice times for a cold January with traffic in the way. Subscribed.
Thanks for the comment fella 🤙🏻 Appreciate the support 🙏🏻 What tracks do you tend to visit on your days? Nothing better than seeing a Westfield blatting along a country road 🏎🚀
@@DMAcidRacing It will be my first one in a car so Mallory is very close and a nice easy track to get out on. Donington 17 miles away too so that's another tick. Would love a go at Bedford Autodrone but noise limits put me off at only 88db. Let me know when you are at Mallory or Donington and I'll come and watch. Good luck pal.
@@anmaruberuss I've only done Mallory once when I had my 600LT and was very grateful for the amount of grass at Gerards after I sent it too hard and couldn't make the turn 🤦🏼♂ My first race is at Donington weekend 23/24 March, however its due to be streamed by the organisers. Hope you enjoy Mallory when you do it 🤙🏻 🚀🏎
It’s hard to compare as my driving has progressed so much.🤷🏼♂️ Roughly I’d say it’s much slower in a straight line, however it’s far more controlled and stable through corners. As my 620r hasn’t sold yet, I am tempted to get it out for a track day. That will be the true test as currently I am around 1-2 seconds a lap faster in the 420 👀🏎
Thank for the comment. This is my 620r which has the same 2.0 ford engine as the 420, however this has a supercharger so it’s got 310bhp 🏎🚀 As I’m racing the 420 now I’m not using this, however I might bring it out one more time if it’s not sold by April 🤙🏻🏎
I just rebuilt a mx5, NA 92. ITB's fully forged, close to 200hp, 9000rpm, but I've always wanted a S7!! Australia is too expensive, even the kite cars here are too much!!!@@DMAcidRacing
Thanks for the comment 🤙 The car is Caterham Seven Championships UK specification, so has 180 bhp. The road going versions of the 420r have around 200-210bhp. 🏎
that reference lap time was hella illegal, so lets be generous and add 1s to it. Roughly 6s off a reference radical SR3 laptime which is pretty impressive for something with no downforce, and 20% more bhp/tonne. Was that on slicks?
Thanks for the comment Mo! Purpose of the reference lap was to push, less about being legal. It always amazes me when people think a Caterham has a higher bhp/tonne. This is a misconception as the road going 420 you can buy has more power than the fastest Caterham you can race in the UK Championships (In this video) 210 bhp vs 185 bhp. Caterham 420 race car 185bhp 545kg min weight Zero downforce = 339bhp/tonne Radical SR3 232bhp 620kg F£&k load of down force 😆 = 379bhp/tonne (12% more) This Caterham is comparable to an SR1, the SR3 is a league above it! Yeah it was running Avon slicks 🤙🏻 You drive your SR3 well 🫱🏻🫲🏽, are you going to race as you will be struggling on track days with people getting in the way surely 🤷🏼♂️🏎🚀
@@DMAcidRacing oh right - didn't realise that about the race-spec cars. Thanks, I started doing track days as had no intention to race but yes it got pretty pointless finding about 2 clear laps out of an 80 lap track day, so I ended up doing test days instead. Still impressive that your caterham is comparable to an SR1, i know that's on treaded tyres but still produces some downforce. Must be a lot of fun to drive.
What is it with other drivers getting in the flipping way! Don't they have mirrors? Nice driving by Darren. Is it me or did I hear him lift off going over the Mountain to avoid going airborne?
@@DMAcidRacing I thought it was clever him lifting off, no take off, no damage risk and no accident risk, much safer and sensible. I'm sure I'd have just crashed tbh 😂
Looking good👍 I’m much earlier down the learning curve having just started trackdays a couple of years ago but it’s great journey isn’t it? You looked to be in just the right spot to be pushing but still smooth, nice driving! 👍 Seeing that weather makes me want to squeeze in one more trackday this year
Thanks for the comment 🤙🏻 Yeah I think that was the last of the good weather track days for the year 🤣 Back at Silverstone again at the end of October where I would guess it will be wet. I’m only into my third year on track, second in a Caterham so probably closer than you think. Are you looking to race or just continue with track days? Either way I would 100% recommend getting some coaching (Not instruction at track days), that will improve your driving no end and make it even more enjoyable 🙏🏻🏎💨
Thanks for the comment! This was from a while ago so I had to rewatch myself to familiarise again. The majority of the overtakes were consented, which I take by the track position more than waiting for an indicator or wave by. When I first started doing track days I used to always wait for something and you end up realising after a while they cannot use their mirrors or they do not have indicators. If someone was more central in the track, I would be likely to zig zag behind them to get their attention prior to making a dive. Fortunately the 620r's braking and acceleration gives plenty of opportunities to pass almost anything on track which has kept me out of trouble 🙏🏻🏎
Thanks for the comment 🤙🏻 Yeah the plan is to do that next year. I was trying to sneak a few in with them this year, however I’m not around for Donny on the 2/3 Sept then they go to USA for two races 🤣🏎🏁
@@DMAcidRacing Yes there is the small issue of the Atlantic stopping play this year! 😂 Hope to see you on the grid next year, looking forward to seeing the new car.
This is the DPR hire car, so basically anyone can hire it for track days or test days. Still own the 620r if you know anyone who wants to buy one! 🤙🏻🏎🏁
Slicks are such a game changer. Donkeys years ago had a Zetec engined 7 with about 200 bhp courtesy of Raceline, narrow track no LSD, 25 quid used slicks a corner. Times dropped from 94 seconds on type 1A to around 88 seconds. But you’ve already seen the problem on a track day… Nice driving.
Thanks for the comment. Yeah once you learn to get them up to temp quick they are game changers in the corners. The only track days I would do now are RMA limited days, however I am just doing test days at the moment. 🤙🏻🏎🚀
@@DMAcidRacing sound 👍🏻 I had the same mirror but attached to the scuttle, but it was blocking the view of my passenger wheel, so I’ve removed it. Going to try a mirror attached to the top of the cage next.
