The Government of India Act of 1919 (also known as the Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms) introduced bicameralism in India at the central level. This act created two houses: The Council of States (Upper House) The Legislative Assembly (Lower House) This was the first time a bicameral legislature was established in India. The Government of India Act of 1935 later expanded and restructured this system, but the initial introduction of bicameralism occurred with the 1919 Act.
