Throw it down! The funkiest dude of the funkiest! "To make it publicly clear...to the girl backstage...nevermind who you thought I was...I'm Rick James, bitch!!" Shouts to Detroit from Daygo. Keep chargin', Soul TV.
My late father loved the Real thing bought all there albums back in the day more so as a white family they came Toxteth were i grew up i have watched a documentaries of the Real thing they super talented it was hard in the 70s they just needed a chance to express their talents as a black born in Liverpool David Essex got them recognised he how talented they were to me they are pioneers for the contribution to British black soul funk music and they born and bred in Liverpool They never copied American artists they were them selves
Sadly the 70s and the early 80s were dark times that exploded in to the Riots black people were targeted with stop and search more than white people change happened the rest is history

Lovely Tribute to Sonny, May All the Saints Bless Him, The Platters were just Magic, I listen to them all for hours, and i'm an old bird, been around since they started. Thank You Esther.
I heard lots of nice things about sonny turner and he was greatly respected and I must say, his voice is lovely. However, as an 80 year old who grew up with the real original Platters, the question remains, how did Sonny stack up against Tony Williams- the greatest group tenor of the Fifties?
for that unique pure tenor quality tony stands supreme. for power and showmanship it is sonny. for that playful smooth as silk cheerful but sexy sound you take zola. together? does anyone come close ever?
Sonny Turner could never be in the same tremendous voice league as Tony Williams. The Platters were never The Platters when Tony left the group in 1961.
THANKS FOR THE POST. I SAW SONNY TURNER PERFORM IN PHILLY THREE YEARS AGO......HE BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN,,,,,,WE GAVE HIM A STANDING OVATION.......MAY HE REST IN PEACE !!!! SORRY FOR THE CAPS....BAD EYES :(
Biggest load of s*** iv ever seen, you can ruin a film by putting too many faces in it, I mean it even had my friends sister in it and it was still rubbish. Cheap Turkey budget rubbish, great message but not well executed. 2out of 10
