During the past several months I (Ben Pretorius) have had the pleasure of hosting guests on fly fishing trips to the Orange river and to the northern atolls of the Maldives.
Five recent trips to several islands of the northern atolls of the Maldives uncovered some of the most exciting GT fishing imaginable. Sight casting to fish in excess of 1 ½ m in the surf zone is an adrenalin rush on steroids. Hooking and landing one of them is of course the bigger challenge but this is what dreams are made of. We have also discovered islands that have kilometres of snow white flats, providing excellent trigger, bluefin and GT sight fishing.
Words alone cannot do justice to what we saw and experienced on these trips and using a Go Pro camera, I captured a substantial amount of footage, including the breath-taking scenery and the fly fishing action.
Did a lot of sw flyfishing at university, used to tie flies between lecturing when I was a graduate assistant during Masters....the rest of the guys and girls in the GA team and some lecturers used to think im crazy lol

Great video loved it. If you ever visit Maldives again I would suggest trying the southern part of the Maldives, Addu. Light fishing or the big ones. You can go in front of the guesthouse and you are ready to fish if you have the gear. Hats off to you Pat and the Walkers! We remember the late 50, s we knew Umngazi in the Basil Leach era. I have been a regular since then . NEVER been dissapointed even in times of floods and political uncertainty. Thank you for your dedication to preserve the wild coast from the mining madness!
