seminar was super helpful to take early on, but you really have to commit to getting the most out of it. it prepared me for so many other classes and put my following work ahead of others who hadn't taken it for the price of a free class and a mildly work intensive portfolio
As someone who got a 5 in seminar, my teacher was amazing and I plan to take research with her in my junior year, a lot of people just don’t take the class seriously but it is easy if you prioritize it, also it was easier than ap csp for me so it might just be that I hated my csp teacher which is why I kind of didn’t care for the class😭
@megzcreates It would be really helpful for me and probably other upcoming freshmen if you can create a video on how classes like AP’s, Honors, etc even work. I feel dumb to say that I barely know anything about it and as an upcoming freshman soon going to the best challenging school in the city idk what it will be like. I didn’t even get to choose what classes i get to take except for electives which will be decided by them by my options. Can someone help me understand and learn better on how it will work 😭
Advanced Placement (AP) classes are more advanced than Honors. APs are college-level courses, and may count toward college credit (depending on the college you go to), so that you don't have to take that class again when you go to college. APs are developed by the College Board, the same organization that creates and administers the SAT, and you take a special AP test created by the College Board (which costs money to take) at the end of the course. AP tests are scored on a scale of 1-5, and people try to get a score of 3 or higher, but scores of 5 are especially desirable for college apps. Besides the possible college credit, taking AP classes and getting good scores on the tests is important if you're trying to get into a competitive college, because good colleges are looking for students who choose the most advanced class available to them in each subject they study. It's also possible to take AP tests without taking an AP class. Some people self-study for AP tests when their school doesn't offer the AP class or they can't take that class for whatever reason. I think the generally accepted opinion is that top-tier colleges are looking for students to have taken 7-12 AP tests (with scores of 3+). Colleges are especially looking for a student to take APs for their core courses, for calculus and physics, and for subjects related to the student's college major.
@@SpocksCat Thank you for the reply! This is helpful. I found out that my high school doesn’t offer AP’s since it’s an IB school so will I still be able to take the AP tests if I want to?
twin, im doing 2 in 9th, 5 in 10th (but it might be 4), 5 in 11th, and 5 in 12th 11th and 12th def might change but 9th: AP US Gov and AP Environmental Science 10th: AP World History, AP English Language and Composition, AP Physics, AP Precalculus, AP Music Theory, but I might have to give one of them up, probably physics or precalc, to fit into my schedule
I know this video is old, but i thought i'd give my two senses on AP music theory. My sister is a music comp major and she took AP music theory in highschool. She told me the reason its hard to get into is because most kids don't understand what it is and think it's just going to be an easy AP (it's not). You have to have lots of previous knowledge on how music theory works and by the end of the course be able to sight read and sing correct notes...and theres something else i forgot because I wasnt in that class lol. forgot to mention my sister took AP chemistry and passed it with a C...she had never taken an AP or a chemistry class before...the counselors let her take it because she was a junior lmao.
I’m planning on 3 Aps (Ap World History, AP precalc, ap comp sci a) sophomore year and uhm, I never really studied before because I just kinda aced everything (except English but we don’t talk about that) so- ahahaha, I’m gonna have to force myself to work. Yay….
Thank you so much for this video. I just applied for the math and computer science major at McGill and I’m hoping to get in. I was feeling quite nervous, because CS is something that I have absolutely no experience in whatsoever, but your experiences reassure me and make me excited for the program.
0:45 I wonder is the curriculum has changed at all, so far for the first 3 units I’ve learned it’s been mainly Asian and Middle eastern history with a bit of Central American, European, and African history
hi! fellow current APWH student, yes i believe they revamped the time periods in 2020? before the curriculum was more general and begun from paleolithic era :)
I’m taking 7 through hs, freshman: 0 sophomore: 2, ap pre-calc and ap psych junior: 3, ap chem ap bio and ap calc a/b senior: 2, ap spanish and ap physics. For context, I want to be a surgeon and math is my strongest/favorite subject :)
@@nuriyah79 not in it till next year, but I’d guess it just depends how good you are at math. I think I’ll find it easy, but I’m also a huge math person.
my current plan is: 2 honors frehsman year, 2 ap sophomore year(and 2 honors), 3 junior year(and 2 honors), and 3 senior year(and 2 honors). is this good, i dont do many good extracurriculars, i work 8 hours a week. i ma currently doing apush as a sohomore and its too much for me. its like 4 hours a night just for that class.
I took AP chem last year only because I had a 102 in chem honors. I guarantee you that it is hell. Not because of the amount of work, but the amount of comprehension you need in order to understand the concepts given in that class.
Honestly I think that's a bit much because sports require a large amount of time after school with practice and games and stuff, but if you can manage, go for it!! :D
Hey, I say it is totally possible, takes a bit getting used to in regards to feeling, mental health, and consistency, but over time you will adjust to the load. At first, do expect to fail, but coming back from that failure will benefit you so well in the future. Do not, not do it because you think you are going to struggle, do it because you will struggle and because it is hard, doing the hardest things earns passion and a tougher heart at things, at life really. Good luck! And stay on top of it
@@nuriyah79might be too late but I did 5 aps this year (calc ab, bio, phys 1, world, and seminar) and did cross country, track, and marching band sophomore year. It wasn’t that bad but my grades dropped a little, if you have a better work ethic than me (not hard to do) then you’ll be fine
I'll be doing 3 sports in HS, currently doing 2 in middle. Do you think I could manage to convince them to let me do like 2 or 3 instead of 1 in freshman year?
The fainting in bio was probably due to the fumes not being redirected through a fume hood. I remember my freshman year in normal bio we were dissecting rats(my group named ours Bartholomew)and we had to come in during advisory(basically a study hall)to finish the dissection before the band trip. Let's just say my vision went green and I almost passed out because I hadn't had anything to eat or drink before the lab and the fumes from the mutilated rat weren't being directed to anywhere else.
I'm really surprised that you only spent a thousand dollars for all of the exams. Because I study in Turkey and in our school we pay 100 dolars for the exam + extra 300 dollars for teaching. Because our economy is really bad in these days it becomes very pricey to even just take 1 AP class. However I'll try to self-study.
Hello! First I would like to start off by saying that this video just saved mee! thank you so much plus I do have a question, is the practice barron's book an "ok" one? does it work just like the Princeton? because I already have the barron's one do I have to buy the Princeton one as-well?
Nah APES is literally the most useful course cause literally every passage, essay, and topics are on climate change and the environment? (I literally was able to predict an El Nino Year with that class I feel very proud lol)
