If they were to have used the VAR system, Wells would have won. Perhaps VAR should take a look at this race and base their decision on a line through the bodies and not whether one player has had his toenails cut on a given morning.
SHE RAN 50.54. not incredible. decent. 194 women have ran faster and they did it 1850 times. her PB is a whopping 2 seconds faster than this. she was runnnig against complete hacks who couldnt run a sub 60 second 400m. There are under 13 girls that run faster than that every year. this was just a handicapped race designed for everyone to finish at the same time.
This run was on a grass track and she had to run around the other competitors , one of which balked her. It was a few months before she won Olympic Silver. The run would be around the 48 to 49 second mark on a tartan track and not many of your 1850 athletes would even come close to this , or go on to win Olympic Silver.
@@FixiSlaptaccount it really is an educated guess. You have to gauge the torso. When either or of the shoulders hits that line; you split. On the lead off I go with the exchange zone.
Love Cathy, but she made TWO big mistakes! One, she should have moved to the very inside position to receive the baton from Poetschka. (They coulda been DQ’d just from that!) Two, she needed to wait to move to the outside coming off the final turn. She knew Yusuf was right there, and needed to wait til the straightaway to fully pass Yusuf, then bolt outside to try and pass Gunnel. Sad, but the Aussies got DQ’d. England were awarded Gold
the World Record for the Men's 60m sprints in 1983 was 6.52 held by Zenon Nowosz of Poland, if you look closely at Paul's 60m sprint in Japan 1983 he ran 6.60 and he "clearly eased up before the finish and he didn't dip", had he of ran at full speed and dipped his time would have been certainly a "World Record" somewhere in the vicinity of 6.50 or lower.
John Walker would probably have come close to winning are actually won this race if he didn't get caught behind Boit and lost his stride. It would have been his last triumph because he really went down hill in many ways after this race.
Walker trapped behind Boit would of got so close 2 Cram almost stopped 2 get out Scammell almost tripped Cram but did trip the great John Walker in the 1500m final 8 years later in Auckland 1990 Commonwealth Games his last big race could of got a medal but wouldn’t of beaten Elliot who was world class this day so underrated Mr Peter Elliot because of following the big 3 Ovett Coe & Cram
As a schoolboy, I ran cross country events against Deek and also Marcus Clarke (Ron's son). From memory Deek ran for Xavier College and Marcus for Brighton Grammar. One or the other won pretty much every event I was involved in. I was eventually reduced to realising I could never beat them, but I would see how long I could stay with them until they 'kicked'! Great athlete and a very unassuming guy and I was thrilled when he won the Commonwealth golds.
I think the people who slammed Ovett in the 800m in Moscow don't know much about the sport. Having watched the semi's and final here there was lot's of pushing and jostling and no one moaned, as far as I know, after the races. This is what happen's in races. Watch how Billy Mills was literally shoved and more by Clarke and Gamoudi in the last lap in the 10,000m in Tokyo 1964 and he still won.
