Enthusiastic amateur! (2024 edit: "GRAND CHALLENGE WINNING" enthusiastic amateur! 😅) All the gear (well, most of the gear) and occasionally half an idea!
These videos hopefully show my passion for all things wheeled and powered. Particularly Adventure Biking, which is my number 1 thing to do, when I've got some free time.
I'm a fairly experienced (but pretty averagely skilled) rider. I'll give anything a go track, road or offroad and have fun doing it. I'm very good at falling off, these days.
I'm also an average but enthusiastic mechanic. When all else fails, my tools of choice are usually a big hammers and a credit card 😅.
I run a motorcycle club, so I am lucky to get the opportunity to do lots of bike related activities and experiences, throughout the year.
I've usually got several projects on the go I am unlikely to finish most of them..
Thanks, have definitely bonded with it over the years. I wager it's the most versatile and entertaining two wheeled machine I've owned, to date. A little tiresome to pick up off the deck, though 😅
Nicely done. I've not done a trackday at Donny for possibly 15yrs now, I must get back there at some point. I want to get my new bike over to Brands Hatch if I can sort a day when I'm not working.
I think the race bikes are faster, with a rider that's skilled enough to use all of the potantial. In this video the Afrika Twin rider is way, way more skilled than the others, and the bike's track performance is surprising!
@BobsBikingAdventures I cooked mine last month at the Isle of Man TT doing the mountain course, they then had to survive a 7 day off road tour of the Spanish TET, strangely enough I had new tyres fitted today 🤣 .
I don't have the exact link as I got them years ago. But if you search ebay / Amazon / AliExpress for Fatbike Mudguards a few similar ones pop up. Like these (not sure about the graphics) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276308711733?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Nsb21cPfRdm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=V464zrlqRCG&var=578733464321&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
So other than the power commander and exhaust nothing else was done on this? I've just brought one of these brand new so was looking at ways to improve performance on it. Do you have links for exhaust and power commander please? Also how is the bike running now, any issues experienced with fuelling etc. Cheers and thanks for a great video.
Thanks! Yes those are the only changes I made. You could also change the intake on the air box - I.e. Make it bigger and adjust the fuelling accordingly. It's all trial and error really unless you've got a lambda sensor reading off the ECU or a sniffer in the exhaust, to take a reading for you.
@@brownpatch75 I got the ECU second hand but it's the Malossi Forcemaster 2 usually advertised as for the Aprilia RS4 125. Same engine, same electrics, you can connect the earth lead to the starter motor earth instead of the throttle body like in the Aprilia installation video. Like this one. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363122765769 The exhaust I got was from Ixil ixil.com/en/335-hps-125-150-cr you need the Forcemaster if you fit the exhaust, otherwise it runs way too lean.
@@brownpatch75 no worries! Let me know how you get on if you take the plunge! There's also a Malossi performance exhaust and some people making airbox lids with a bigger intake hole, which could be worth looking into. The Ixil is a very good price point though and is decent quality.
It's a Reid Boss fat bike which I've electrified. Got a longer video of the ride which I will upload tomorrow if I get a chance. Shows the bike at the beginning. It's rudimentary and OTT but it's great fun!
Yes I recommend it! Especially if you've got a more free flowing aftermarket exhaust. Chances are, on standard fuelling, it'll be running lean, especially towards the top of the rev range.
Nice riding!! Africa twin is my dream bike. currently riding a klx250s which i love dearly. im a 90% on road, 10% off road kind of rider and setup the bike accordingly
Awesome! I hope you get an Africa Twin one day. They're such fantastic bikes. Taking mine on a track day next week, then straight to an offroad biking festival! What other bike can do that? (Other than a GS or KTM 😅)
Improvements to the bike? Seat cover, heated grips, bash plate, straight through exhaust and Malossi Forcemaster Ecu, AX41 tyres, front Ascerbis mudguard, pro-taper wide bars and a USB accessory socket were the main improvements. Everything else was just a repair of stock parts. I also painted it myself and fitted a luggage rack. There's a full Playlist of the process. 😁👍
Yes happy to. That stretch in the video is pretty simple to navigate. Start at Streatley and follow the main trail. W3W link to start point below. Hi brother. I have a problem with chain tension. Can you show me what the chain looks like and how much effort it takes? because every time I tension the chain it always makes noise thanks
Hi there, you want to have about 20mm - 30mm free play in the chain. If it's making a noise, make sure the sprockets and the chain are in good condition, properly secured to the bike, properly lubricated and the wheel is straight (check that the tension adjustment is equal on both sides of the swingarm). It's normal for it to make a little bit of noise!
Hey Alec, it was this seller on AliExpress s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EHPyabX . If you look in The "Colour" section of the listing you can buy both the front and the rear. All the markings were the same as the OEM items, so I can only assume that's what they are. Decent price vs the UK official parts supplier (who were out of stock anyway) and only took about two weeks to arrive. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EHPyabX
I think I'll try and get out on the Africa Twin a bit more, for now. Was tempted to go straight out and get a 2-Stroke Enduro, but might leave that for next year. 😅
Hii!! Wich is your exhaust pipe? I already bought a HPS Mondial 125, and I would love to get that beautiful sound. Could you help me? Nice video by the way! 😄👌🏻
It's the Ixil centre pipe. Removes the catalytic converter and silencer from the system. However, you ideally need to adjust the air fuel ratio, otherwise the bike will run lean, which can cause overheating and damage to the engine components. You can tune the ECU directly or get a piggyback ECU like the Malossi Force master 2, which is what I did. You also need to check whether your bike has the separate downpipe or if the downpipe and centre pipe is all one piece. The exhaust in this link is what I have. It attaches to the OEM downpipe and OEM tail pipe. 👍 ixil.com/en/335-hps-125-150-cr
It's about 1.2 litres. However, the best way to do it when changing the oil is to first add 1 litre, then add a little extra, bit by bit, whilst checking the dips tick. That way you don't over-fill it. 👍
Do you have the links where you took the front mud guard, the mirrors and the hand guards? What do I need to mount a rally mudguard removing the stock one? Also i would like to know how did you replace the plate holder with that one. Thanks!
Front mudguard: I got this www.24mx.co.uk/product/acerbis-mx-nost-front-fender_pid-0008200.090 and drilled some holes through the guard, to mount it to the forks with jubilee clips. I put some rubber padding between the forks and the clips, to avoid damaging the fork legs. Hand guards I got from AliExpress www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005128856031.html Mirrors I got from eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/355246044535 and I also got these mounts, to mount them www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126308690800 This was all possible because I fitted some wide pro-taper fat bars. This did mean that I had to make up a new, longer clutch cable, which you can see in my videos. The bars were left over from an old project (the bike was stolen before I could fit these bars) But they were similar to these. You can often find second hand ones, quite cheaply www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375006029566 The plate holder, I jusr removed the old one, then drilled some holes to mount the plate directly to the rear of the bike. However, this doesn't work well. So I will shortly be removing the current rear of the bike and replacing it with this plate holder: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333910920295 Hope that helps!
Oh and keep an eye out for a new video in the next couple of weeks. I'm preparing the bike for it's first government inspection. So I'll try to film some of the modifications as part of that. 👍 Happy biking!
@BobsBikingAdventures also do you know if it is possible to somehow work on the sound of this bike? I see that the dB killer is not removable and I don't want to change exhaust. What can I do? :)
@@federicobiraghi7526 If you don't want to change the exhaust, the only thing you can really do to change the sound is change the filter and airbox lid, to get a little more induction noise. There are a few people making these and they're the same airbox as the Aprilia RS125, I believe. I have the Ixil exhaust on mine, which makes quite a good sound, though to be honest, it's a bit loud at times. Be mindful that if you put a more free flowing exhaust, you'll need to add fuel to the mixture, to avoid the bike running too lean and potentially overheating the engine and killing the piston rings. It was adding the Ixil exhaust which made me realise I needed to add the Malossi ECU, to sort out the air/fuel ratio for reliable running (and a bit more power). Here is the video I did on that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QJTMYXpv36U.htmlsi=zVxlSNQi9sTQR2Fe
I got the Ixil exhaust. Pretty good value and decent quality for the price. Not what you'd call quiet, but added a good 5 inches of ground clearance and allowed enough room for the bash plate. Before I tuned it with the Malossi, the Ixil made it run pretty lean. EGTs were very high. Adding fuel to rebalanced AFR has added a bit of performance but also I think massively improved reliability and longevity. 👍
Thanks! I just use a Samsung A32 and the OsmAnd app. I mount it with a TruActive phone mount, which despite being cheap, has lifetime guarantee, which I can confirm they honour without fuss. 👍
They can be used on a number of bikes but I believe they need to be flashed for the right engine & ECU combo before being shipped out. If you check out the Malossi website it shows you the list of compatible bikes. It doesn't list the FB Mondial HPS 125 specifically but it is essentially the same as the Aprilia RS4 125 (The Derbi 125 EFI unit made by Piaggio, in China) same ECU, same engine code, same connectors, same fuel pump. You can find the Forcemaster 2 units second hand, quite cheap and as long as it's for one of the bikes listed at the bottom of this web page, it should work! www.malossistore.com/en/gb/force-master-2-electronic-controller-for-injection-vehicles-5515724-P
Well, you are smarter than I. This summer while riding TET Poland I encountered big overflow area around the river Wieprz. I assessed the depth of the water with a glance. At the beginning it was shallow enough but then it got deeper and deeper. I was shocked that my DR650 is still able to pull with water up to my ass but eventually she died on me. I flooded the engine and ended up dragging the bike, through the water up my crotch, to the nearest village, for about 1 kilometer. Thanks to the helpful locals and a mechanic I was back on the trail the same night. It was good fun in the end, but I wouldn't repeat it. Good luck with your adventures.
That must've felt like a bit of a sticky situation to begin with! What a cool memory to take home though. Fantastic to hear stories of people finding help when they need it, on their travels. I hope to get to TET Poland one day!
Really recommend checking The Mick Extance Experience out. Absolutely phenomenal location and great kit and instruction from the man himself. www.mickextanceexperience.com/ You never know, if you say you went there after watching this vid, they might give me a discount next time I book the club in for another day. 😉
You can't, it's something called a Prism Effect, it's when light and rain collide and form a bunch of different colours so basically, the closer you get the further it is
how malagutino? Im spanish and i see you in another video coment. How can i do it? I have an UM dsr ex 125 that has the same motor of this hps. I hope your answer, thank you men!!
I could be wrong, but I believe you have to upgrade to the Euro 5 ECU in order to remap it. I looked into it a little with the Euro 4 and couldn't find any software or instructions on how to flash the ECU and remap it. If you know a way of remapping a Euro 4 ECU, please let me know as I'd love to give it a try, for science! 😅
