Hi, my name is Stephen Marsh and welcome to my video channel. On here you will find my general railway videos , plus a few other bits I've created. The recent partnership with the team at Ranwell Video means that there will be a considerable archive of 80s and 90s railway video released on this channel over the coming months, and I'm honoured to be able to share this with you, as much of this footage has only been seen by the people who shot the video, and has never been released anywhere else! I also own theHSTchannel, which is for HST material only and Richmondmodelmodelrailway for all model stuff. My general railway and other videos will go on here. Hope you like what you see, and if you require any other information please do not hesitate to contact me: theHSTchannel@hotmail.co.uk
I was a signalman in Darlington Power Box from 1987 to it’s closure in 1991, and the sound of the southbound London trains as they left platform 1 and passing the signalbox was amazing, good compilation video, thank you 😊
Fingers crossed that the Hirwaun Colliery line will meet the same fate and re-open to passengers as well! There are plans for it to happen soon, according to WalesOnline.
I used to work in earls Court mid 70s to mid 80s and used to travel to west Brompton Tube station the other half of the station was in those days closed boarded band derelict youvmayboccasionaly see a filthy wheezing shunter on the tracks with a trail of filthy rusty wagons in tow. I believe this line is now reopened to passengers..
When i worked for FGW 2002 - 2011 and during the Valenta era on services i worked twice had unusual workings. 1st was a back to back pair of powercars coupled up to a 2+8 in order to get the back to back powercars to St Phillips Marsh , That was a powerful run with 4 working on 8 coaches . The other was like the video but not pushing but pulling & not on the Lickys but from Highbridge back to BTM . I worked the Pad - WSM service where we terminated & was due back to BTM ECS but we got the call to assist the Penzance - Paddington Via BTM where 1 powercar had failed & the other one was close to total failure , The set i was on then continued the service from BTM - Paddington after it was uncoupled etc .
Id like to bet the Valenta engines would have lasted much longer if they would have been started at atleast 60-70 celcius all the time. Such a shame sooo many great Valenta's are history oor MTU'd Clearly them MTU 4000s are slower. Buuut the video was 43 mins of pure joy! Thanks for this ! Greetz from the Netherlands, Bjorn
Music to the ears! Just one suggestion: how about adding the locations to the popup-tags on the left ? Or periodically pan the shot to a station name board (prob a bit late now for this) ?
I see it’s just had the boiler lifted for overhaul. The tender is already done. A guy in the shed said the loco overhaul will take 6 years, but probably more.
A late ol friend of mine (ex green badger), worked one of these over the Lickey on one engine, not long before he retired from Laira. (49 years on the SR, WR & Virgin.) He had lost an engine shortly before the climb & should have stopped for assistance, but was going on well & as he used to say with a smile; “ Rules are meant to be bent, not broken.” Lol. Went over the top at around 23 mph & was on time at New St & knowing him he would have stopped on a rising brake, (mister so as not to spill the tea.)😂
