Omg I’m a single mother and this was the best video explaining it 😭 thank you! I hope I can fix it!! I almost have the panel off now but I can see the styrofoam is frozen to the fridge but the bottom of the panel is starting to lift. Your kids are blessed to learn these lessons!
Hi, a steam cleaner is best for melting the ice, but a hair dryer will work as well. Make sure it is unplugged when you do so, as it is not particularly good for the compressor for it to be running while you are putting excess heat into the system
@@chunyangzhu1431 hi there! Any single component, moisture cured, polyurethane foam will do. I don't want to endorse any particular brand. Thanks and have a great day!
Fantastic video! Ive replaced my thermistor about a yeat in ahalf ago and it recently started icing up again, so i replaced it and we'll see what happens. But i noticed the black foam was always wet/moist, im gonna do all these insulation things! Also Samsung lost a class action lawsuit amd MUST repair the ice makers at no cost to the owner, no priof of purchase is required either. Sometimes you have to argue with them or call back and talk to a different agent. This does not apply to Canada though, your all outta luck up north
It would be helpful to have a close-up view at 14:21 to see where the temp sensor (i think he said) is to be moved to. (I got lost and confused at the ohms and multimeters and the wiring at this point!! It was rushed with very tech-y info...) The 3 crucial fixes are at 15:22, one last one at 16:02. Thanks!
Great video! I have an old RF4287HARS/XAA with same setup. I did these mods 3 years ago and the problem is back. Prior to the insulation mod I have changed the heater and thermistor to latest P/N. Also Just changed icemaker (2nd) time this year to. We are thinking its time for a new fridge....tired of working on it. Takes forever to defrost it to get the cover off. What does everyone recommend besides Samsung?
Thanks for the tip on getting error codes. Didn't know that. Our code shows what we already knew though: fridge fan error. We've had ice on the back wall for months and tried to do your repair but didn't work (couldn't get that last screw out of the panel). Now we have water defrosting down the back wall into veggie and cheese drawers and running out into the kitchen. Not sure what we'll do next.
@@HunnyBunMama hello there. If the water is draining back in the manner you described, it's possible that the drain tube is clogged. Once defrosted, if you pour a quarter cup of water into the bottom of the coil drain, it should dribble down into the pan above the refrigerant compressor. If it does not, you will need to clean out the tube with a long pipe cleaner and or some bleach.
I bought an aux heater kit from Ben’s appliance. It’s basically heat tape that taps into the existing power leads and extends the heating surface to cover all the metal behind the panel. Easy install and no more ice block on the evaporator fan for over a year.
You remind me of that Super Smart Guy from Stargate Atlantis. Thanks for giving me the confidence to buy a Samsung Fridge. God Bless You and Your Family!
@@TWTH You should see the deals on the Mega 32 CU Feet Model (Americas Largest Frenchdoor Fridge} . And since I am a vetran, I can get it Tax Free and with Free delivery. In other words more bang for the buck. I think it is $,1379 out the door and everyone I know says get the warranty because its not frigidaire or GE but I am hopeful that the unit may survive 5 years and bring my family its Joy. Thanks for being the pragmatic one for me. Take care.
@@TWTH the water is not draining from the hole where the aluminum piece is. When I put a thin rod down it I hit a hard place about 2" down. Could that be ice in that drain tube? I used a steamer to defrost the ice on the coils. Should I continue using it in the hole?
I'm sure it is ice as the back of the inside is cold in places. I let it go a long time because I was tired of defrosting the frige from H... I was inspired to try one more time that when I found your site. It seems to be melting and leaking out the screw holes. I'm 74 so anyone can fix this with a philips screw driver, foam window seal, glue and spray foam. I will let you know if all is well once I get it reassembled.
@@christinekanbergs sometimes that hole gets clogged up with mold and debris. You can fill the tray with water and run a pipe cleaner down there. If it's still does not drain, you might want to add a few tablespoons of concentrated bleach. That drain tube deposits the water on top of a tray on the refrigerant compressor, so that it will be warm and evaporate.
I had to replace that metal tab at the bottom leading into the drain tube. The factory one was skinnier and not as long off the defrost line at bottom, middle . SAMSUNG has a new part for that.❤
I wish I would have seen this video last week, trashed the old one (french door) and bought a smaller LG, no more Samsung. I glad you found the problem and very nice video.
We have been fighting this for several years now. The first time it happened was about 3 months out of warranty. Then we discovered that it is a know problem with this brand. We are going to try your fix. But ultimately the best fix is to get another refrigerator that is not a Samsung. For what this cost it is junk.
Hello, Thank you for your very informative video. Our RF2SEDBSR/AA Samsung refrigerator's filter is not working properly. We have bought three different type of filters including the one that Samsung recommends for this fridge but everytime we connect the water filter the water stops. However, the water streams perfectly fine whenever we remove the water filter from the refrigerator. Any idea what can be done? or What could be the issue there?
Tried one of the fixes in your video, to fix the same problem on my unit. I didn't put sealant on the fan assembly cover, but took standard window / door foam and replaced the factory gaskets. I removed the factory gaskets and used gorilla glue to help keep the replacement seal in place. it's been 4 months and no ice buildup. Literally, ice was building up every two weeks and now, it's good to go. So glad I didn't purchase a new unit, which is where I was heading until I tried this fix. Thanks a bunch.
Our Samsung refrigerator is having blinking 37 for refrigerator section. Planning to use this fix. I'm a non technical guy so want to be extra cautious. Would you mind sharing product link for sealer and form used in this video?
My Samsung is a different model . 4 years old. The sad thing about it is they're still selling it. I'll never buy another Samsung appliance ever. You shouldn't have to work on a 4 year old refrigerator. If you are considering buy a Samsung refrigerator Dont.
Been dealing with this for a year. I finally bought a new fridge. Keeping the old one and doing this repair. Once it's done I'm moving my food to my old one. And pre repairing the new one!
I'm having the same problem. I replaced the heater coil, fan, and sensor, and I got a week out of it. I just tried your method on Saturday. Hopefully, that will fix it.
@@jtav031656 I likewise hope that you have a lasting repair. Additionally, make sure that the unit is leveled properly so that the door seals correctly against the frame. That can be another cause of are ingress... As well as the pivoting seal between French doors on some models.
@TWTH Thanks. I'll check the level and doors next. Samsung makes a great smartphone but just a mediocre refrigerator. The ice maker is the biggest problem.
Great video! I just started having problems with my Samsung refrigerator in the same area. I just added a heater coil back there that was recommended by a repairman on RU-vid.
This video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WjUbNx-Z-dE.html) shows how to resolve the defrosting issue. Combine this video on how to seal it properly and the other video on defrosting and you have the perfect combo. - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WjUbNx-Z-dE.html
I'm going to try that weather stripping tape next time. In the past I've used a small piece of copper wire looped around the heater and poked down into the defrost drain hole which seems to keep that area from icing over. For the upper right area where you were working I've used a rubberized mastic tape.
I have a Samsung French door refrigerator that came with the house I bought in 2016. Had this issue recently and ended up calling a local refrigerator guy. He explained, just like everybody on this video has said, that this is an EXTREMELY common issue with Samsung (and he said LG's as well). Had to pay $560 for him to replace the control panel (of which some circuits had burnt out because of the moisture), thermostat and fan. I called Samsung and they said since the refrigerator was out of warranty the only thing they would have done was send their own technician and I still would have had to pay for it out of pocket. If it was under warranty it would have been covered.
Thanks a million. I'm doing this as we speak, I'm hoping these steps stop my fridge from over freezing! Wish we me luck and I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes!
@@chrisharrison8941 As long as the chassis is at ambient temperature / there's no condensation on it, you can just put foil tape over the crack. If it has injection foam behind the crack, it probably is not a major contributor to air ingress. Thanks and have a great day.
@@Lord-of-the-Noble-throne Hi. It is single component moisture cured polyurethane. I wager that it off-gases an order of magnitude less than the factory applied compound..
@@user-nh6vt2fm8k The panel is not adhesive to the chassis. The film only has adhesive on one side. The other side just seals by means of contact with the irregular services. The cover can be removed at any time. Thank you and have a great day.
I know this an old video, but I've just come to need it, so it's new to me and I have a handful of quick questions before I try your solutions. 1. Is the fix still working now? 2. What type of sealant/caulk did you use behind the fan assembly? 3. Did YOU remove the existing foam gasketing before applying the weather stripping?(Only want to do this once, so if it worked for you I'll do as you did.) 4. Did the CA glue do any damage to the styrofoam? 5. What type of spray foam did you use? Was it minimal expanding fire blocking foam? The color made me think it could be fire blocking foam. Thank you for the video and any answers you're able to provide.
I’m about to throw this piece of crap away. It has been nothing but problems💰. Same with the Samsung washer/dryer, microwave, and oven I have. A service call a year!
@@aa6757 Yes. I will not you buying any Samsung products that have moving parts. Perhaps the TVs and phones are still above average for performance and reliability.
@@TWTH the average lifespan of a refrigerator is 14 years. After three years, I had to call service Tech because the refrigerator was not cooling. I will never buy a Samsung product the rest of my life.
Well today I did the weather stripping a I siliconed all the areas instead of foam. Lets see if this works!!! Ive always seen people complain about this issue but since 2017 i havent had a problem...moved it out to be the garage fridge and then two years later i am now searching for videos like this on how to fix it! lets hope this works as i really do enjoy this fridge...especially for the man cave!
@@azentertainmentohio hey there. I sing up is far more common once placed in a garage. This is because it is subject to much higher, and fluctuating, humidity. I hope you have a lasting repair. Thank you so much for watching.
Make sure the DOOR FLAP ENGAGES. It's an easy miss and this is MOST of the reason for unnecessary built-up. To fix, either shim the left door up ($10 shim kit - or 3d print one), or shim the catch at the center of the door down as needed. Also replace the tab at bottom of the heating coil with a piece of 12 or 14 gauge wire that goes down into the drain, to prevent ice dams from forming and clogging the drain
@@jkling1717 yes, the pivoting astragal is definitely a weak point in the design. My lower coil and condensate drain has never seemed to ice up, so I opted to leave it alone. Thank you so much!
