I think having visions and fulfilling them is the future, just like he does. I wanted to cycle the coast of Norway. I did blog it, so that people could get inspired and follow me on the trip. Then I deleted tha blog. There is something nice about things being in the memory only. It is like parents passing on things that I used to have when I was a kid. Just tossed them. Don’t need it. Think it is more of their generation to record things and remember. Future has allways been created by the ones that go agaist the stream and have visions, but learns from the passed. Not by the ones that gets stuck in tradition and how things should be. That is the KLF for me and Bill deserved credit for it.
BUT -- this model only works if you're Seth Godin (or have a name of similar global stature). A lesser known author (or musician or artist) would not have these results. It's important to note the statement "I just had a New York Times bestseller".... which catalyzed this story's results. The point that "ideas that are free spread faster" was indeed proven -- however -- I think it's important to note that this ideologue may ultimately fail financially if the name behind the idea has no notoriety.
I love that he is open about new technologies and social media. I guess he does not realize that radio is still a thing. I see a lot of new artists asking their fans to request their new released song on radio and my neighbor still listens to radio.
The genius who will be the greatest, will only be when those who make art also invent technique. Artists today manipulate techniques not built by them, so they are mediocre. Only then will we reach the level of the artists of the past, now there is only flat noise. It is a bad an dark moment of transition, dominated by market needs. We remember what Socrates said, "the only thing that will destroy art will be the market" There is little quality art since the twentieth century, since in this century entertainment is confused with culture that improves knowledge and human conscience. If education is diversified and specialized, professional knowledge will also be de-fragmented "Democratization" is the usual English Usonian linguistic error. We want to say better, use a more precise term like: "Vulgarization" ???. Art in general has become vulgarized, and as such has become vulgar art. art is in the hands of the common people
