Hi Anna thank I have several Phalaenopsis and thanks to you I’ve gotten Pretty good with then. My husband Agee weeks ago went to a Orchard show here in Louisiana and picked me up a Vanda Orchard I’ve been sick for a while and I just love this Orchard it has a beautiful bloom . I’ve been caring for it with the information that my husband got from the grower and some information from u- tube I would like some information from you on Vandas I hope I’m spelling it correctly any way if you could send a link I’d love it Thank you Joyce🦋

I'm glad to hear that your Phalaenopsis orchids are doing well! Vanda orchids are stunning and can be a delightful addition to your collection. Caring for Vandas differs from Phalaenopsis, as they often require more light and air movement. I'd recommend checking out the following links: orchidbliss.com/8-tips-for-caring-for-vanda-orchids/ orchidbliss.com/types-of-orchid-plants/vanda-care-card/

I have a new leaf ,one other leaf.,some Ariel roots. The stem & other roots have died. Two other leaves are withering. What can I do
@orchidbliss9198
@orchidbliss9198 2 месяца назад
It sounds like your orchid is in a bit of distress. Here are a few steps you can take: Assess the Roots: Check the aerial roots. If they’re healthy, they can help sustain your orchid. Trim any dead or mushy roots. Repotting: Repot your orchid in fresh, well-draining orchid mix to provide better support and nutrients. Watering: Be careful with watering. Make sure you’re not overwatering or letting the roots sit in water. Light and Air: Ensure your orchid gets enough indirect light and good air circulation to prevent further stress and disease.

Why do you use sunrise/sunset, which changes daily, instead of a fixed timer of 13-15 hours?
@annaweston9257
@annaweston9257 3 месяца назад
Great question. Orchids respond to seasonal indicators, such as day/night length. If you live in an area, such as Alaska, where the photoperiod is extreme day or night, I wouldn't advise using a sunrise/sunset setting. Another option would be to set your timer to your orchid's native time zone, e.g., Philippians for Phalaenopsis or Brazil for Cattleyas.
@johndileo7202
@johndileo7202 2 месяца назад
@@annaweston9257 Thanks...makes sense. Living in New Orleans I didn't think of Alaska. Right now I have my timer set for about 14 hours a day. I have Phalaenopses and Dendrobia, both native to the Philippines. Length of daylight there is between 12 and 13 hours, so I will cut back my lighting by maybe 90 minutes daily. They get a fair amount of ambient light. Thanks!

Activated fish charcoal is more porous and is more effective for filtration purposes.

Another way to look at it is to give your Phalaenopsis as much light as it can handle without burning it. Always increase light slowly and touch your orchid leaf during the warmest/brightest part of the day. The leaf should NEVER feel warm to the touch.

This is a wonderful channel! I have used many of her tips, especially for how to water, fertilize, and repot properly. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, and have been gifted with 5 orchids over the years. Most are phalaenopsis, and they are ALL doing very well. The orchids live together in a small sunroom at the back of my house. I highly recommend the MissOrchidGirl channel. Thank you, Orchid Bliss!

Full spectrum light for how long? I have a cattleya, dendrobian and phals, none are blooming. Do I use the seed mat on all or just the cattleya and dendrobian? Are the light requirements different for each species? Same question for the seed mat… please help.
@orchidbliss9198
@orchidbliss9198 6 месяцев назад
As a general rule, you can follow seasonal variations in your area, unless you live where that doesn't makes sense (Alaska). Or, you can research where your orchid is native to. For example, if my cattleya is native so Sao Paulo, Brazil, I would set my timers to match Sao Paulo.

Thank you! U helped me figure it out. My 1st Orchid, gifted on mothers day from my nephew, and the stem was turning brownish, like drying out. I knew something wasn't right. The leaves look great, nice and healthy, but the stem looked like it was drying out. So I'm glad i found ur video, and I can't wait to see them bloom again.
