How long were you out there for? From my experience, BNSF ran the most trains on the Thayer South Sub. in the early morning hours around dawn to mid-morning and from the mid-to-late afternoon into the night. The middle of the day seems to be when it's usually pretty dead unless BNSF has their act together on a good day. I'd recommend trying again in the fall and winter. That's peak season, so rail action will pick up then.
The Twin Ports are Duluth, MN and Superior, WI. There is much to sight see in this area and Duluth is the farthest inland seaport in the world. Ocean going vessels come in occasionally but the 1,000 ft lakers going thru the ship channel under the arial lift bridge is a sight to see. This train is running along the North Shore between Duluth, MN and Two Harbors, MN. The beginning footage is from the railroad museum in downtown Duluth. I have been on this train but not when pulled by steam.
I've been to this railroad museum many times, a very nice place to visit, also a great ride on the rails, gift shop is great, a very worthwhile time while up near Baraboo, or the dells 👍
That's actually a Virginia & Southwestern 3-chime, if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure #4501's original whistle is a Princeton 3-chime, which is much higher-pitched.
When I was visiting from Dallas I was so happy to see 630 run The first time in my life I've seen a coal powered steamer I look forward to going back seeing 630 and 4501 double head thanks for sharing this. Great footage dude!
