Your one stop channel for news, reviews, hints and tips if you are interested in anything optical. My aim is to present in a no nonsense and easy to understand way. Not only do I deal with a number of brand names, but am also a keen bird watcher and active astronomer. So you could say I have first hand experience on the subject.

My business opened back in 2006. During this time I have learnt a great deal about how optics work , and techniques to get the best out of your equipment. I do my very best to be unbiased , and when I think appropriate I will also mention some minus points with telescopes and binoculars.

Over the years I have had many viewers give positive comments about my uncomplicated presentation by email , phone or even coming along to see me in person at our open days.

Thank you for watching, and I hope my videos help with your choice of optics, and also give tips on maintenance of your prized equipment.

Love your videos. Constructions? leaflet. Instructions surely. I'm struggling to see any coatings on the optics. These could be good for children as you say but only with a wrist strap for younger children. Don't want them to strangle themselves.

In a few of my vids I have the odd "play on words". So sometimes what viewers think are mistakes are rehearsed. Regards straps, by all means change to a wrist strap if concerned.

Can it be mounted to a side clamp on a table top dobsonian
@44messier
@44messier 2 дня назад
In theory yes. But may be difficult when the Sun is high up, as the mount will limit upward tilt.

As always when I visit the local cash converters where I get all my vintage lenses, I take all my t-adapters with me. Got this one on in the shop and could not get it off. Said to the lady I,ll leave it on, like I knew what I was doing. Hence figuring things out when I got home and sharing my findings here.

Edit - Only the 7x50 Marine binoculars are illuminated. The 7x42 monocs are not.

@44messier
@44messier 11 дней назад
If anyone wants to donate a set of leica trinovids I will happily accept and compare. Kiddn aside, never dealt with Leica so can not comment other than say one is £679 and the other £950

Ha fair enough, they sound an upgrade to the edx so im tempted.

No improvement in brightness compared to the EDX. But what you are getting is less CA, less distortion and (in my opinion) more natural colours. If / when ordering from us remember to reply to the confirmation email you watch the channel so I can put something extra in the box

These inexpensive 60mm refractors usually have good optics but they are often let down by spindly mounts, terrible finders and lamentable eyepieces.
@44messier
@44messier 13 дней назад
Yes, and that is why they are less expensive. The modified achromatic eyepieces you get with this scope are the same as most other SW starter scopes. So although they are not FMC plossls, they do the job in this price range. If looking for a more sturdy mount look at the SW Mercury 705. But then you pay the extra for the better mount.

Fantastic explanation. Thank you for the video. I have been an armature on an off for the past 10 years with SW 130p and 150DP telescopes and did not know what the aperture mask was for until now. ☺🙄 Now I know why I could not get clear viewing of the moon and Jupiter the other night.

My most used binocular for birdwatching are the excellent Leica Ultravid 12x50, I would not go for a 12x42, the extra you get in a 12x50 makes it easier to handle.

Is it possible to unscrew the eyepiece socket and tell the diameter of the blind tube?
@trident8872
@trident8872 21 день назад
How is clarity at higher magnification??? Is it clear?? No colour fringing,no chromatic abberation??
@44messier
@44messier 21 день назад
Depends on the telescope / spotting scope you are using. Which may range from a triplet APO to a basic multi-coated doublet. As always the eyepiece contributes 50% of the optical quality with the objective the other. So is one of those questions that is really difficult to answer without actually putting on the scope in question and testing.

@@44messier how it will perform on ED spotting scope?? Like Vanguard Endeavor HD 82??
@44messier
@44messier 21 день назад
Never dealt with Vanguard so can not comment. Was unaware they accept 1.25" eyepieces. But if it does, and CA is an issue, then instead of a zoom, get 2 or 3 of the best ED glass eyepieces you can afford
@trident8872
@trident8872 21 день назад
@@44messier actually Vanguard Endeavor HD 82 has bayonet mount but no problem still you can use 1.25 eyepiece because the standard eyepiece is the same but only difference is bayonet mount

The vintage lens is doing the job for the video📷👍
@benneves6649
@benneves6649 28 дней назад
They are certainly not sharp to the edge, only about 75% of the field can be considered reasonably sharp. Also they suffer from colour aberrations and the eyepieces cause reflections unless you bury your eyes in the eyecups, which is not possible with glasses. They're reasonably priced budget binoculars but I think this video title is a bit misleading.
@44messier
@44messier 28 дней назад
Not misleading from my POV. I know the 10x42 and 8x32 are not as sharp to the edge as the 8x42, but with the model I tested I found very little fall off compared to many. I did mention the chromatic aberration and reflection inside the EPs twist cups. I actually found the opposite, as mentioned in the video to hold them away from the eyes a little to reduce the eye cup internal reflection. But thanks for watching and the input.

@@44messier Really! Wow! Well it's always nice to help in some sort of way...I've got to be honest, it is a little strange talking to a camera at first but I think most creators including myself start off a little camera shy.
