Ey Dude, watching this at 2021 and I still have a question... In the first clip is Rear diff lock, right??? second clip is with Traction Control only? I really don't understand, in other comments you say like it was a mistake from de uploader. please could u explain?
Hey mate, the first clip is rear diff lock (which disables traction control in the factory configuration - so the front is just an open diff) second clip is traction control only with no rear diff lock. It's basically showing that in cars that do this (it's not limited to Pajeros, a lot do it) that situationally it can actually be beneficial to try using traction control instead of going for the locker.
@@TCBarky I understand you but I will never undersrand Why engineers do Not allow TC working on while Rear diff is locked.. that has no sense to me. however I knew there is a mod where you can switch on TC with a button while engaged rear diff lock.
@@yisiperez8916 it's to reduce strain on driveline. It's not common but occasionally (once modified or when using an aftermarket diff lock) you see the TC acting on the rear (locked) axle. Because you have locked 50:50 drive when it applies the brakes for the TC action it MUST brake the entire driveline (because it now brakes both left and right on the rear as locked together AND the rear is locked to 50:50 with the front) so now the engine and transmission are straining against the brakes. There is a paragraph in the factory service manual explaining this. In practice it is noticeable and you feel the whole car suddenly lose speed slightly as the TC pulses, it usually happens on scrabbly shaly climbs or sand in my experience. But it's not a big enough impact to override the benefits of traction aids on both axles as long as you don't drive it too hard.
I got a 2012 NW platinum - cant praise the Gen 4 paj enough. I wrote a tune into it and installed a throttle controller and a gearbox lock up , All terrain Maxxis 265/70/R17 - standard height and the thing is a blast. Faster than my mates V8 Landcruiser (cause of tune and gearbox lockup) More comfortable than any 4X4 I have owned ( BT-50 Etc) Takes me anywhere - highway I get 8.5L cruise control at 110kph Town around 9-9.5L (tune related) The fuel filter is massive , the oil filter is massive, very well engineered vehicle. I would love them to drop a Gen 5 hopefully in 2022 or something would be nice :P Price - smiles ration is priceless. I have no rear locker in mine - never found a place where TC could not work YET :)
To those commenting. The tyre pressures were lowered, they were already on 16-18PSI to start with and dropped to 10 after a couple of attempts of varying technique (speeds) on this dune. This was the only dune we had difficulties with, the rest we just walked up at 10kph. It's difficult to tell on video but this vehicle actually did far less damage to the surface than most that come through here. The vast majority of travellers we encountered were running 40+PSI and having many attempts at far simpler dunes, some with significant vehicle damage associated. There was minimal wheelspin going on for this climb and the vast majority of the damage to this climb was prexisting from other travellers. I agree there was be some extra scalloping from the bouncing near the top but I had a look at the track after we got up and smoothed over any roughed up sections for the next people so overall the climb was actually left better than we found it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yep, in the description. Started at 16PSI dropped to 10 to climb this particular dune. This was the only dune that gave us trouble. We could have possibly done it in one but preferred a slower approach to avoid damage.
Indeed. I chopped the cable not long after this video (pre-made looms weren't available at the time). There is another video on this channel showing this climb again with both systems operating. I still think it's an interesting demonstration however for those that are still using the factory configuration
@@anonim1133 hey mate, yeah you can just go in and cut the correct cable behind the dash. You can put a switch on it too if you want to then traction control back off when using the rear locker but I've just left mine. So I've got factory rear diff lock with traction control as a result.
@@TCBarky i think I was there, with a few guys from the pajero club. I had an nm that couldn't make it up there. If im right, it was only you and a fj40 that made it up.
Awesome tyres, nice suspension, excellent filming. Bought a grease pump but it seemed I missed a couple of... nipples too!! And it annoys me every time I hear it... Btw, greasing every 5000km seems to be OK. Depends on how rough/off road use.
Hey mate. This will be your ASC (ESC) not your traction control. They are two different things. Traction control can only be turned off by activating a factory rear diff with unaltered wiring or unplugging a wheel speed sensor. ASC gets turned off by the button on your dash.
Ozi Bank Runner hey mate the quarry is at the southern end of the park, pretty full on now. The rest of the tracks do a loop along the eastern side of the park and come out at O'Brien's. Public forum is free to join just sign up, loads of information and helpful folk on there
A prime example why towing should be banned on these tracks.7 attempts before he crested the dune and look at the damage to the track that the next vehicles have to contend with. If you cant survive without all the comforts of a camper/van like that, stay at home or in a caravan park and don't ruin it for the rest of us.
It is not trailer mate. If he just had his tire pressures right from the start and kept his momentum, it would've been fine. So the issue is the driver.
@@masterwrecker7918 nah these bumps in the ruts are caused by tire spin with too much pressure they will last the season.. try and cross the simpson late in the season after people that try it on hwy pressures.. ruined..
these are the sort of people who dig up the tracks and ruin them for everybody else. should have lowered tyres down to 10ish before even attempting, especially when dragging crap like a caravan
Just looks like he got hung up with the locker on. Took a slightly different line in the second run. If you're on your guts, doesn't matter what you have.
Assuming you needed an adapter for the threads in the oil pressure sender? I've read elsewhere it's not the usual thread type where the stock oil pressure sender screws into.
It's not that one is better than the other, it's more that in this vehicle setup where you have to choose between traction control on all four wheels or diff locked on the rears only and front unnassisted that sometimes the traction control is superior. More to highlight that it comes down to driver experience and skill to choose the correct traction aid for different situations.
All else being equal (i.e. same driver, Diff lock or TC working on the same set of wheels) what would be your choice between traction control and mechanical differential lock. There are quite a few Australian made videos here, that seem to prefer Diff lock. Also how do you rate pajero against prado in off road, does the independent suspension and limited wheel travel compromise the pajero's ability in really hard off road.
Nawaz Zaygham twin locked front and rear will be superior to traction control in all bar very rare circumstances eg where having the front locked will impact too heavily on steering or on hard surfaces unsuitable for lockers due to windup risk. The thing that lets the locker down in this video is that it leaves the front completely open and there's not enough traction on the rear to push it up it needs some drive from the front axle as well. Hope that makes sense.
Nawaz Zaygham Paj is not a truly full on hardcore 4wd imo but then again neither is a Prado haha. Both are about as capable though I think the Pajero is more so from factory. IRS is actually of benefit over the live axle I've found in this realm of mild touring lifts (there's actually a very good amount of articulation on the rear with mild suspension modifications from the right company - need longer shock extension lengths) but if you wanted to do big lifts or big tyres Paj is not for you.
Ronn Slusser Not sure what you mean. It was a systematic lowering of tyre pressures that enabled it to get up the dune? Seems more like a great example of how important tyre pressures are
If he REALLY didn't have the rear-locker engaged, then the traction control would have been active in the rear during the first video, correct? And what is wrong with having a traction control system that works nearly as well as having a locker--shouldn't you want that?
