I liked New Mutants. CGI was good, plot and writing was average(but what Marvel movie story isn't). In short, enough to enjoy a little chill time watching an okay movie.

@skunkman9815 completely understandable. As it is now, it's just a terrible waste of space. Hopefully the new rides salvage some of this, but I'm sick of disney pulling this game publisher, "we'll send it out broken and incomplete and fix it at a later date" mentality

I should put together a 'these are the essentials' list for seasons 1 and 2, but I agree: every episode of 3 works. Nothing can be left out and nothing should. So really the 1-2 needs just a few key ones for the references, and then the last 4 from season 2 which is the first real 'arc' setting the 4-episodes tone that is to come. And then get my kid (now 13) to watch them with me.
@catfdljws
@catfdljws 3 месяца назад
If you look at the names attached to the show in this period, you find some major, well, 'upgrades'. Marv Wolfman and Len Wein both contributed to episodes. They're both in the hall of fame when it comes to comic book writing, with Marv famous for co-creating the New Teen Titans, and Len a major contributor to X-Men. Other DC and Marvel writers each threw in their hats as well, but those to stuck out for me at the time. So yeah, the third season was a leap above the already excellent previous two, because they were willing to get really good writers to take their existing ideas and give them the dialog gravitas to make it work.

The walrus' name is actually Bletch, not Belch. And I watched Meet the Feebles too and I actually liked it although it is basically pointlessly cruel and gross and it has many fillers to stretch the time. And of course it was rather shocking for me to see so many sexual and violent scenes and many of the characters getting murdered in cold blood.

Because it's two completely different movies aimed at different audiences with radically different tones and subject matter, which do not mesh together at all, and are forced into being joined by physical location alone. Only weirdos who can compartmentalize and enjoy that sort of mix like it, people who can enjoy both the action and the comedy in movies like Last Action Hero and Hudson Hawk, which also flew over audiences' heads. It's a goofy martin short comedy and a tense and deadly sci fi situation at the same time. Am I scared for the pilot or am I laughing at the antics? How am I to feel, movie? So I get it. This is a very Joe Dante movie, and fans of his ought to seek it out, otherwise people had better be ready for a weird ride. I love it because I had it on vhs as a kid, but watching it as an adult I can see what an odd duck it is. What it needs is an RLM Re: View, and then it'll get the attention it deserves. Hey, they did Gremlins 2 and Joe Versus the Volcano, I think it's just a matter of time.
@bbreviews3460
@bbreviews3460 6 месяцев назад
But that's the thing, I get that's not for everybody, but it is as unique as Hudson Hawk and Last Action Hero, and yet those get reviews and defenders, while this one is mostly forgotten. All those films you mention have cult follwings, but this one doesn't have much of one, and I think that's a shame, as it is as good, if not better, than most of those films. I don't feel the difference in tones of the film are as jarring as Hudson Hawk or Joe versus the Volcano, but even if it was, there are just so many cool effects and Ideas that this deserves to be in the discussion. I also hope RLM or Nostalgia Critic cover it at some point, but for now, it's just me and Joblo. Thank you for watching the video, and I love your insights.

@@bbreviews3460 No, you're right, it should have more of a following, but it has several factors working against it there. One, it lacks a huge star like Arnold or Bruce, those get attention for being in something "bad", while for stars at Dennis and Martin's level it just means obscurity. Not that Innerspace is bad in any way, I didn't mean to imply that, I'm giving my best guesses here as to the why. It also therefore lacks the budget and big action setpieces as well, though I agree the effects and miniature stuff is all amazing for what it is. But that's like Star Trek excitement, it's scientific problem solving in an unexpected situation, it's not the same as Arnold jumping a car off a bridge and shooting dynamite out of the sky. The closest Innerspace gets to that level of action is Martin's scene on the back of the truck, (contrast with the length, pacing, and excitement of Hudson Hawk's gurney in the road scene) the robot battle is more slow and plodding, and Dennis lacks weaponry, it's not an action spectacle, it's a duel in a biological museum. Great appeal, but you see how it's a different kind of appeal with a narrower audience. Compare it to the final battle of Ant Man, which is functionally the same premise for the fight, but the concept of shrinking is treated and shot so differently, it's all about the visuals and the motion rather than admiring the props and gaming out the possibilities. It's not really fair to compare it to modern films, but new viewers are going to do exactly that. And the final problem is the piece of the puzzle we each engaged the least with, the awkward romantic comedy. I don't feel that ever works, and I love Meg Ryan. It's just never comfortable because Martin and Dennis are both clearly interested in this woman, and it destroys the growing friendship between them for us to think of them in competition for her, especially with their insane power imbalance. You don't want the audience thinking about them turning on each other, and I think the rom com strays too close to that sometimes. In conclusion, the movie is a pretty much a bag of cats who are not the best of friends, though each cat is special and worthwhile in their own right. It gets in its own way, but I don't think that's a flaw. Joe wanted to create something unique, if he wanted mass appeal, he could have gone for it. Instead, he made exactly the unique 'movie shrunken down and injected into another movie' that he wanted to, and it's there for people to discover, which gives it a special appeal all its own, and I think you can take some pride in helping people to do that here. Good review.

@bbreviews3460
@bbreviews3460 8 месяцев назад
Not lacking, I just didn't like that they just made her another generic warrior woman. Her personality and tragedies made her interesting when she was just a normal woman, but Showalter dropped a lot of that in this book. She's a survivor, and still has so much heart after everything that happened to her. I don't mind her becoming a warrior, but they just skipped all of the drama and struggles that a rape victim would have in starting a relationship. The character is great, but Showalter didn't do her struggle justice

There's a right order then there's your order :) 1. ZSJL ( apart from few issues absolute masterpiece. Zack's best movie period) 2. Shazam Fury Of The Gods. (way better than people make out, better and funnier than 90 percent of MCU movies I watch. completely underrated. Actually better than first and more comic accurate. also underrated musical score. Just lovely family movie.) 3. Wonder Woman 1 - Made me cry 4. Shazam ( Great Christmas kids movie) 5. Batman V Superman (Looking back at how the whole genre has unfolded BvS is Underrtaed as fuck. Flaws yes, but the good outweighs the bad) 6. Aquaman 2 (also way over hated. Genuinely good sequel that fixed problems of first. Again if you read the comics maybe you'll appreciate more. Just too many jokes is only problem. Also not every CBM has to be ATSV or the Batman level good. MCU had way worst movies along the way that we gave a pass. Not bad at all. Also great score) 7. The Flash ( Should be top 3 if not for the terrible CGI) 8. Suicide Squad (Yeah iu said it. didn't love the story, but loved the characters and it is better than Gunns fart joke squad) 9. Aquaman (dumb fun, guilty pleasure) 10. Man of steel ( while better than a lot of CBMs. ALOT, the film is still just dumb. Although brilliantly directed, its a very weak superman movie. That I think was the beginning of end of DC movies. It started on the wrong foot-. deserved a sequel to fix the problems though) 11. Black Adam as a Rock action movie with JLA I fucking love this movie. My problem is it doesn't settle on a tone. Too much comedy. it should have just been serious. 12. BoP - Not bad at all. Just pointless. and terrible action. 13. Blue Beatle (Good, but why does it exist? and honestly overrated) 14. The Suicide Squad (competent film making but I hate the characters and juvenille humor. Still i'd recommend it, just not for me) 15. Josstice League (truly one of the most lack luster attempts of filmmaking. The film has no life) 16. WW84 an incoherent mess from start to finish that even makes Josstice League look like competent film making. Not sure how this happened but it is bad!!!

That should be interesting, I'm just 5 mins in, but I'll post my review of your review when I'm done ^^ Before watching the rest, I figured I'd give my quick opinion on these shows, so after I'm done with the video it will be easier to explain why I agree/disagree with you The Arrowverse has had some gems, and I'm glad that it is ending with one of its best shows, *Superman & Lois* thankfully getting a 4th season... Between Arrowverse/CW shows like => *Arrow* (there were weaker seasons like 3, 4 or 6, but even in those there were plenty of qualities), *the Flash* (I've only followed the first 3 seasons religiously, after that I'd only watch an episode here and there if they sounded interesting), *Legends of Tomorrow* season 2&3 (and I'm one of those weirdos that liked season 1, mainly for Captain Cold though...) *Stargirl* (really good show, on the same level in my mind as some of the best live action DC shows like Doom Patrol, Constantine, Swamp Thing, Superman & Lois, Watchmen, Gotham, Peacemaker, The Sandman, and many others...) *Black Lightning* is also a very solid show, it's a shame that the Painkiller spin-off got canned... ... then there have been bottom of the barrel types of shows, like *Batwoman* Seriously, 3 season of that?? When DC shows like Constantine or Swamp Thing got canned after 1 season? ^^' I only watched "Batwoman" because I'm a sucker, I'm a big Kate Kane fan, I love Luke Fox/Batwing, and since season 1 promised us that: - my man Tommy "Hush" Elliot would be the secondary Big Bad, I couldn't resist... sadly, he had a good actor but his motivations were so weird, and his characterization was so far removed from his usual self, even after "losing face" then season 2 came around, and this time they promised me - Black Mask as the season's Big Bad, and Roman Sionis is one of my favorite DC villains, and after the disappointing DCEU incarnation, I was delighted by Peter Outerbridge's performance as the Black Mask in *Batwoman* ... -plus the first live action Cluemaster & his daughter Stephanie Brown, both were cast very well and Cluemaster's costume was neat... -I also got promised a brand new Victor Zsasz who would be heavily inspired by his *Gotham* counterpart played by the awesome Anthony Carrigan, and his actor, Alex Morf who had also played in the 5th and last season of *Gotham* ... Ok imma stop rambling for now and watch your video, cheers from France mate!
@randallflagg3700
@randallflagg3700 Год назад
25 mins in, right now I'm at number 4, *Stargirl* , and so far we seem to disagree on several subjects, but your points are laid out pretty well so I totally respect your opinion ^^ When it comes to its connection to the Arrowverse, don't forget that John Wesley Shipp portrays Jay Garrick/The Flash in Season 2 of *Stargirl* , so there is a connection there, and not just because of *Crisis on Infinite Earths*... That show also has somewhat of a connection to the Titanverse (Titans+Doom Patrol), as, spoiler alert if you haven't watched *Titans* season 4... . .. ... .. . I the episode _"Dude, where is my Gar?"_ , Beast Boy aka Garfield Logan (played by Ryan Potter, who did a stellar job) has a trip through the Red, and at one point ends up teleporting next to Courtney and has a nice chat with her. That scene was filmed over only one day, so sadly it wasn't the big *Titans/Stargirl* crossover that we had hope for, but that episode was chock-full with great cameos and it was a good ep in general so I wasn't too mad. (speaking of, that was THE cameo time for DC; we got that awesome episode of "Titans", we got 2 episode of "The Flash" season 9 with lots of cameos and one of them was the best one from that mediocre series... 1st) we got another episode of The Flash season 9 featuring Nia Nal/Dreamer from *Supergirl* , but that episode ( _"Wildest Dreams"_ ) really sucked _hard_ ... 2) _"It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To"_ , the only episode of season 9 that is worth watching if you're an Arrowverse nostalgic and need some closi= ...and a few months later we'd get the movie *The Flash* with also a bunch of cameos, my favorite being Kevin Smith's Superman modeled after Nic Cage from *Superman Lives* , fighting that infamous giant spider that Jon Peters was adamant that it HAD to be in the film, non-negociable ^^' nice little wink at the DC enthusiasts who follow every little behind the scene funny stuff ... what am I forgetting? I'm certain that those weren't the only crossover episodes full of cameos that came out in 2023... I mean, the Arrowverse crossovers *Elseworlds* (still my favorite one from all of the CW crossovers) *Crisis on Infinite Earths* had a lot of awesome cameos, but they ended in 2020, so that can't be that... Anyway, time to press play again, then pause in 10 min, followed by another essay in your comment section 😁
@randallflagg3700
@randallflagg3700 Год назад
So far we agree than Jon Cryer did a fantastic Lex Luthor, I didn't watch *Supergirl* as at aside from the crossovers, even if for a while I wanted to give season 1 a chance because Max Lord is one of my favorite Wonder Woman rogues... but in the end, you can watch literally _everything_ I'm a pretty big DC fan, been like that since I was a kid and Batman:TAS was my favorite superhero cartoon (+ JLU in which Batman was), and I'd watch & rewatch the 2 Tim Burton movies over and over... But between the comic books, the animated movies & tv shows, the live action movies & tv shows, you just can't consume everything unless you do nothing else, and have no other interet Okay, moving on to *Legends of Tomorrow* ! One very minor detail, but you described it as the first Arrowverse show with a lesbian main character, but Sarah is bisexual... not a big deal at all, but I figured I'd write it down. Glad we agree that season 2 was the best, watching former Big Bads teaming up to form their own _Legion of Doom_ was excellent. Merlyn, Darhk, Thawne and Captain Cold teaming up was so satisfying, since in *Smallville* season 10 we saw that show's Legion coming together under Toyman [the only DC rogues that we got in common with the one from the Legends are Merlyn the Dark Archer and Captain Cold, IIRC] in a really, really cool scene with great tension, great camera work, some cool costumes considering they were only there for a cameo, but sadly they didn't get to do anything... Although I have to saw that *Legends* season 1 isn't as bad as I expected from hearing people bashing it during the times when I was only watching Arrow & the Flash, but it was better than expected... I wasn't a fan of how they turned Heatwave into an unfunny caveman later on, and then turned Leonard Snart into a pure lawful good fella, so in Legends S1 I at least got to see them as they were on the Flash, real Flash rogues who are in it for themselves, and the Mick/Chronos twist was pretty cool IMHO Let's keep on going!

Nothing changed, just the meaning considered from another perspective, the twist on how what we think is a curse is a blessing. Anyway, this was great, thank you. I agree and disagree with a few things about this review, first and foremost on the agree side, I don’t think this is one of the worst films ever. When I heard how much Ebert hated it I was thinking it would be flat out boring. It’s not boring in my opinion nor was it the worst of 94. For me that would be Mixed Nuts with Steve Martin also directed by another talented director Nora Ephron and featuring Rob Reiner in an acting role. Now that was a boring and unfunny movie to the max. I will also agree a couple jokes in North are funny but the humor for me was too subtle. I know Rob Reiner was trying to go for a Mel Brooks approach with this after all his dad Carl Reiner was Mel Brooks best friend but in Brooks movies there is always something over the top to let you know it’s all a joke. I felt Reiner was too subtle with some of his jokes here that is what made them unfunny. The Amish joke was mildly funny but I felt it would have been funnier if you had North engage with the Amish and then realize he didn’t like it. Also the Alaska sequence to me was very unfunny, cold and heartless. You could tell both Bates and Vigoda looked embarrassed. That was just tasteless and unnecessary and again could have worked with more over the top and zany humor. So no I don’t think the movie is as bad as some do but some of it doesn’t work and is wrong headed.

I feel like Buford and junior carried the movie for the 3rd they never failed at being absolutely hilarious. Jerry reed did great. As best as he could have been as the bandit. But overall it wasn’t the same. But it was not so much as to consider it bad. If Buford and junior were played by someone else it would have been gif awful probably. Also in the intire movie you only see 4 police cars including Bufords. like that’s more than were chasing the bandit at a once on several occasions throughout the other movies. The nudity also just didn’t fit with this whole series of movies I don’t understand why that was so prevalent in this film. The second one although kinda a weird story in its own way and still giving the sequel vibe. it was absolutely amazing.

I enjoyed your review of the nerdy series. I never heard of it before but now I’m interested. Book #1 & #7 sound the most intriguing. Thank you for posting & sharing your review Andrew.

I loved the first book. The second book dragged it's feet a little but the third book made up for it. I'm glad that someone else liked the trilogy enough to review it. It will always be one of my very favorites.

Thank you for posting this. From the beginning you get it. Another Fine Myth(mess) was inspired by the Bing Crosby, Bob Hope films; the banter of characters drives the story
