hello angels i'm maryam and this is my creative outlet where i share my fashion, lifestyle, and also thoughts on things like self love & healthy living 🥒🤸🏽♀️🎞️🧸🪄🫶🏽
here are some FAQs:
where am i from? 🏠 i'm indian but have never lived in india! i was born in abu dhabi and attended middle school there. i later moved to dubai for high school and then to london for uni at 18. london has been my home for 7+ years now.
how old am i? 📅 i am currently 25 years old.
when did I start my channel? 📹 i started this channel on the 21st of December, 2020 - that was when my first ever video went up and it was about my experience at fashion school, istituto marangoni.
This is a great video 👍. Such an interesting topic. Growing up with brown skin in Belgium I had my fair share of racism. In my late teens Aishwarya Rai became known in Belgium but I didn't feel a connection. I felt more leftout because she was fairer and her hair was nothing like mine. Now thanks to a couple brown youtubers I feel better about my skin. There are also a few brown Bollywood actresses who helped me accept myself. I will share this video on my social media if I may as it is that important.
Thanks for leaving this comment!🙂. I fully hear & understand where you’re coming from and yes while Aishwarya Rai is gorgeous & Indian, she doesn’t represent what most of us look like 🥹. And yes go ahead & share this if you like!
Would you stop to shaming Fair&Lovely / Fair&Handsome ?? Even CaroWhite is safe if you are using it moderately. And i’m not a Desi guy but those fairness creams are good on my skin and just contain niacinamide.
Because who world is obsessed with 'caramel skin tone' ,which is really unrealistic and toxic standard for humans, and eastern people are sold this 'standard' as being 'lighter' tone (fair and lovely And in the west, the sell as to get 'bronzer/darker' ,because they are sO pAlE And people aren't realising this
Also as a Nigerian and "Black", I also understand how it feels to receive this commercial western validation but it doesn't move me or rub me off in anyway because I do understand that there's where the money is so it makes sense to want to be recognised by them. Just like how Nigeria is to most western African countries for music, Europe and America is but to the entire world this time
I'm still minutes into the video but I have to say this first, I'm Nigerian and I grew up with Bollywood movies, the Indian culture and country was beautiful to me, we would growing up put eyepencils on our foreheads because of this so while some part of Europe and America may be trying to capitalise on the market right now, it's not fair to say the world is just waking up to the Beauty of India
I do understand the disappointment of waiting but then again, when you think of costume or couture or art, there's beauty in the process. It's just an extra something especially when narrating the story of the exclusivity of owning something from such brand.
Change your$elf - here try this product to make you look the oppo$ite of what you are. Interestingly, the cream's main active ingredient is niacinamide (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glow_%26_Lovely), which is also the active ingredient in many skincare products say from Ordinary or CeraVe but these brands market their products to reduce "hyperpigmentation", which is defined as patches of skin that become darker than the surrounding skin.
Exactly. There is an extreme shaming against Fair&Lovely but it much cleaner than so many western skincare products. I buying 110ml tube from eBay because in my location Desi sellers only have the small tubes. About CaroWhite , you have to use it moderately and for a short period of time.
It’s in Middle East. Including Baluchistan too. But any West Asian country is brown , from Turkey until Kazakhstan/ Afghanistan. White people are the Greek and Cypriot Greek and even Cypriot Turkish and Albanian are not white generically.
Hey i actually got into hult this year for my bachelor's in bba but i am actually worried about accommodation can you please suggest some and pls make a vlog on the living expenses and stuff at london as a student
I read an article in the Belgian elle that Maria Grazia Chiuri has been working with an Indian atelier for a decade now. I'm adopted. That's why I live in Belgium. But I always talk about my Indian roots. I'm proud to be born in India. I wasn't always, but thanks to RU-vid, I've found Indian beauty channels that make me feel proud to have Indian roots.
I actually disagree that western beauty standards are tanned skin.I mean yes they like tanned white girl but people don’t really prefer darker skinned women 😢
Thanks for your comment! ☺️ you are correct, however the point I made was that tanned skin (in some ways) is still desirable on white women while it is the completely opposite in South Asia ❤️
DO NOT BUY, CHEAP CHINESE JEWELLERY WORTH 1 EURO. My ring broke after two days, and they offered me an 80% refund. Reasoning because they supplied me with a free gift - that I did not ask for, which is worth about 1 euro. The ring was over 40 euros. The shipping takes about two weeks and comes from China, you are better off to go on Shein and order the same thing for 2 euros. Also they say that the jewellery does not tarnish and designed for surfing, but after a few weeks of wear the gold starts to fade and come off.
Awesome video with great points. I would like to add a bit of context re. skin colour in the West. It is essentially true that tanning was desirable, as it indicated one was rich enough to go on vacation to a tropical climate. However if we go further back, say to the 1950s and before - white skin was very desirable even in the West, for the same reason you mentioned - it indicated one had the luxury to be indoors and not have to work in the sun. This was the "idle rich" or "gentleman class" as opposed to the "working class". "Lily-white skin" was highly praised in women.
thanks for your comment! and yes you’re very correct ☺️ white skin was always desirable also in the west but only difference is that they made tan skin desirable on themselves only when it suited
I remember I went tanned more deeper than I am when I was in NY for the summer and so I got so many weird people trying to make me feel bad for having more of tanned skin/ deeper skin than I had before if that makes sense. It got to me eventually and it made me believe i was ugly. I reframed my mind and realised that those people who said messed up things about my skin colour are colourists and deeply insecure about themselves. Thank goodness I came to that realisation sooner than later. Even two years ago I went on holiday and went deeper. The same thing happened but like I keep saying the people who say these things are ignorant
omg thanks so much for sharing this girl! i’m so happy to see that you maintained your beliefs and didn’t let anyone else project their own insecurities & racist feels towards you ❣️
