Doomed? Just the opposite if it wasn't for silver and gold stacking I would never have been able to save the amount that I have managed to put away for retirement. For my personal situation is the best decision I have made. 🫎🫎
I would like to go to a coin show someday, I’m a stacker for the most part, but love to see old coins and learn about all the different kinds there is out there.
I go to a regular coin show every month in Cleveland. Dealers who offer fair deals do well, and those who are over priced do not-and the coin show is where I find the best prices due to the competition.
Looks like New Jersey is doing away with sales tax on Bullion with a new law Governor Phil Murphy signed Thursday. As for coin shows, they're so far away from where I live it doesn't make it worth it. Another channel I watch attended a coin show in Florida only to pay $44 for parking and $15 just to get in. Way I see it, you'd have to save or make that much to make it worth the price of admission. VT247
not a dealer, just a humble stacker and collector. went to the money fair in chicago. it was my first coin show. maybe i built it up in my head during the weeks leading up to it. I went there with a pocket full of cash and a blank check. ended up buying 4 oz total--two artsy rounds which i love. the event was cool, many many many great pieces, some nice folks and chats, but the overall vibe was snobbery. i'd go again but with a better plan
Two years ago saw a dealer at a show that had a display case filled with had to be near a hundred pre-33 double eagles! Not all shows have great deals but in the past year I have found some very rare gems at great prices, coins that never appear on ebay, pop up for auction at the major auction houses maybe just once a year, would never have one if I hadn't gone to the show. And then there are a lot of dealers who apparently still do not realize ebay exists and gripe all show how they are never able to move any of their coins (because why buy XF/AU coins toned ugly from various holders over the years, when listings on ebay have shiny BU ones at 20% less price?) Last show I stopped in at had like only 10 dealers and even fewer customers walking in, but I still found two gem early date Britannia bullion coins for an amazing price (he was selling them at strict bullion prices even though these coins have significant collector premiums, didn't realize just how much of a premium when I bought them, looked that up later). Some shows I walk out with a nice haul, others I leave with no purchases, just the way it is.
I've arranged a deal with a dealer beforehand and then picked up coins at the shows. You'll frequently get a better deal when you've met them face to face. Also you get to view coins that you'd never normally consider, e.g. ancients (Roman, Greek, etc).
ANA Money show is great. I went to the one in Pittsburgh in 2023. Crime in Chicago deterred me from going in 2024. I both stack and collect numismatic coins. Not sure I would go to a show as only a stacker, much more interesting for numismatics.
Versus Pittsburgh who have actually made it policy they will not respond to any 911 calls overnight. When ANA comes to Chicago it takes place in a suburb not downtown, no concerns with security beyond typical common sense.
I just attended COIN SHOW in Long Beach last week. And it was a waste of time..... OVER PRICED PRICES for Mainly NUMISMATIC STUFF... Most dealers were not selling Bullion. 😢... I prefer to deal with stackers and those who sell BULLION 😅
A lot of reasons why coin shows are more for numismatic products and not bullion. If more stackers attended shows then bullion dealers would set up at shows more often with better prices. But for several reasons it is just not the best way to transact in bullion.
It was Kamala calling to ask for Andrew's vote. Pretty sure the coolest people at the coin show will be Andrew and Matt. I'll have to approach and ask them their names, or if they know where I can buy some decent gold chains. 🤣
Such a great opportunity to learn and get things your Lcs may not have. Not necessarily gold/silver but ancient coins, foreign money, historical coins. Plus if it’s local you might find sellers local to you with shops you never knew were there. Meeting other coin geeks. It’s a good time. If your just a stacker maybe not so much but open your head and heart to other related things.
They're awesome to go to because you can not only see stuff that you might have never seen before but you sometimes make really good trades or get some good deals on things
Kiyosaki made his millions through real estate on margin. Buying apartment blocks with heavy financing and taking advantage of every tax break under the sun. His legal problems forced him to declare bankruptcy in 2012 although he appears to have pulled through that.
First gold coin I’ve ever purchased was the 2006 Proof Buffalo from the Philadelphia mint gift shop for $850. I stack 1oz Buffalo’s and 1/4 oz Eagles Just how i do things.
Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay you for it. Gold and silver have been traded for thousands of years, so it's unlikely that you won't find someone willing to trade. However, it may not always be an optimal trade. Doomed is unlikely to be you have a bunch of silver and nobody will trade with you, but may more likely be you traded a bunch of silver and didn't receive similar value.
Selling gold is very risky because you could end up taking a loss depending on how you go about selling it or when you bought it how much you paid you could get a profit
The thought of under capitolized coin shops is kind of frightening. It's never happened in my memory but I've hear stories from old timers that it happened in 1980
Correct. A lot of buyers won’t purchase from a non-established seller. That’s why best bet is to take a haircut and sell to one of the big guys on whichever platform you’re on. You’ll spend far more time and effort than the extra $45 you might get selling yourself…if you can find a retail buyer.
George Gammon did an experiment. I think it was in Venezuela, and he tried to get across the country with gold, silver and bitcoin, they offered him full price for silver, half price for gold, and they didn't want the bitcoin.
I look for deals and if I have something that I didn't pay alot for I would most likely sell it for a nice profit use profit money to buy something else
