Amazing footage! That looks like a large eel/fish (do you know what kind?) the bird caught! The fish was struggling, but the hungry Heron managed to fully consume (alive?!) it all okay? ..It looked like the unlucky thing was desperately trying to “ball up” to prevent sliding further down that long throat! I wonder, does the sizable fish stand any chance of escaping if eaten in that condition? Maybe it can turn around inside the elastic throat/stomach and has a chance of survival here.
Great video. It almost looked like he was trying to pull off the front fins. Looks like it was a low tide. Was this close to the access road or over near the creek outlet?
Nice video. Do you ever wonder what those gunky things the Whimbrel is finding and eating? I am guessing this was shot on the approach to the marina, because most of the marina is surrounded with riff raff.
This was shot on the mudflats in front of the Schoolhouse Creek outfall. The bird is eating worms and snails, but don't ask me for their species names.
