In the first segment inside the museum I was hoping you would tell the history of, and show off the great features of the A-11 the way you did for the earlier models. But that's okay. I enjoyed this very much. I'm a big fan of Checker Marathons and taxis. Thanks.
Great video on the Checker. I had the pleasure of working for my father-in- law after he purchased Texas Checker Sales & Service, Fort Worth TX. We had the opportunity to go to the Checker plant In Kalamazoo in 1980 during a maintenance conference great tour.
It's sad that so few of the early Checkers still remain, most were junked after long, hard lives as taxicabs on rough city streets . Virtually no more than a handful of pre-1960 Checkers are still around
Graduated from engine development corps. We were taught that checker motors developed the first ....Valve in head-cylinder head. And that they didnt protect their design / patent.. It was stolen by chrysler and GM. Which is why Chrysler and Gm small blocks used the same head and intake / exhaust gaskets.
I watched the video while only wearing my right earbud. It took me a few minutes to realize that there's actually someone talking on the left audio channel.
That Lycoming straight eight was the same engine as Auburn used correct? Obviously Checker never had the supercharger option but, still that would have been a heck of an engine for a livery vehicle where flathead six engines were most common.
My first car in high school was a 78 checker marathon retired DesMoines Iowa city fleet. Paid 750 dollars for it in 1982. Wish I knew back then what I know now. But because I was young dumb and stupid I beat the crap out of it. If I could find another one I would cherish it.
