Regardless of what parts vendors sell you the C4 Vettes are metric cars. All Vette specific parts are metric so the exhaust manifold studs are that too. They are M10 -1.5 x 65mm. So, get a metric thread repair tools and you get the threads into good operating condition without cutting new threads into the flanges. The repair kit comes handy in many places with the car. Just today I restored the threads in my manifold flanges and also couple that were bad on my '91 frame. Ps. of course if the original threads have rusted away or are otherwise beyond repair/restore then you need to repair the threads with Helicoil or similar product or drill them completely out and go one size bigger. Going through the process now and have completed the first 2 videos. I cranked it to TDC and removed the distributor cap and it's also pointing toward 6.. doesn't it seem strange that both yours and mine are that way? What do you think the reason is behind this? Edit: nevermind I see now. The TDC line is there for both 1 and 6.. it takes 2 full rotations to do a 360
Yes, it is a small thing and another rotation was needed and it was corrected. it is all where the engine stops when you shut it off. we just got the luck it stopped on the other side.
I can say that I have to do this again and will be creating another video on the process. it is difficult and I found that removing the screws that hold down the dashboard/pad helped give me the extra space. the alternative is to remove the dashboard/pad, which is a pain!
You should take this video off YT. You didn’t show how to install the boot. I was looking for tips on how to glue the nuts fasteners for the leather. You just showed how to screw in a few screws too side.
I took my intake off today on my -87. I had two ports blocked with metal plates in the intake that fell off. They came off either the two holes in the front of the intake manifold or the two furthest in the back. I wonder why they are blocked with loose metal plates 🤔 Can't find info on that and you dont seem to have any square ports blocked in your lower manifold
Hey I was wondering if anyone can help me I just recently followed all of this and my car won’t start unless I give it gas when trying to start it but once I stop giving it gas it dies does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Have you checked the rails pressure? Is the fuel filter clogged? Does the fuel pump working properly that's in the tank? Did you connect all the vacuum lines correctly? The vacuum lines underneath the plenum, and those connections? Have you tested the injectors to make sure they are all working? I know these sound like mundane questions, but they're all things that I checked on my maroon 88.
@@donaldcombs4677 thank you for the quick response but I just checked all of those things and they are all working properly and the connections are good but I still have no start is there any other things it could be it’s either timing spark or air related but that’s about all I know
You have either a grounding short or a lack of grounding in the system. Check your grounds throw wiring diagram. You can get one probably off Corvette forums. I'm not home right now or I'd snap a picture of it for you and send it to you. I ran into the same problem on the interior. There is also the courtesies sensor module behind the information panel that also could be going bad on you.
I believe the courtesy sensor modules behind the information panel, it could also be to the left of the heater core box. I forget where that sensor module is exactly
If you had a leak, it wasn’t from that microscopic gasket material on the pan. The dipstick tube grommet should be changed as these GM’s are notorious for the dipstick tube grommet to deteriorate and leak. Good luck with your project!
I would say the same thing but the dipstick was on the other side of the engine and when I cleaned off the oil filter in the oil cooler and then ran the engine again I could see it dripping down the side of the cooler
@@donaldcombs4677 So if it’s not the dipstick tube or lines, both on the passenger side on the C4, then the gasket must have failed somewhere. Hopefully you have it all taken care of. I literally just got out from under my sons 1989 Corvette. Did a transmission oil change and filter, plus the trani dipstick grommet as it was like jelly and leaking from there. No it is directly coming from the oil cooler and filter section. It's not coming from anywhere else it's not dripping from above, it is coming directly from that area.
You didnt prep it or nothing? Didnt clean the rubber begore glueing? Cowboy DIY Rough as £uck Guys buy new seals, clean out the seal trays, do it once, do it right, American Rubber Company, those weather strips last another 30 years.

Why did you say "unbelievable " When dark fluid was coming out?? Probably hasn't been changed 4ever! I thought the bleeder screw trick was grease, NOT antiseize!
Unbelievable due to the fact that in 35 years NO-ONE changed it. and grease can be used as well, but anti-seize was what I was told to use to solve the issue.
In NY you can put comprehensive on a vehicle without having to register it and I immediately get the title in my name. I've done it with every vehicle I intend on driving eventually. I've heard too many horror stories about people buying cars, not taking a few extra steps and then getting stuck with a lawn ornament they can't do anything with.
My Wife just tried to do that. we will see how it works out. Someone tried to forge her signature and take her car so she is fighting it. she has all the paperwork set and handed in.
Did you manage to fix the leak? I have a leak too in the same area, but I think it might be the headgasket since I saw some oil where the head meets the block.
You can do yourself a big favor and remove all that smog/air pump and all those hoses/pipes etc. It will clear out a whole bunch of space. It will not affect anything unless emissions are state checked. The kit is like 80.00.
I was working in the rear hatch area and made the mistake of leaning on that trim piece across the back and broke it in to 3 pieces. Managed to glue it back together until I finally located a used one nearby. That was only a little over a year ago. I highly doubt I could find another now.
Yes because it pressure Rises the entire cooling system including in the block of the engine. If it was pushing water past the gasket and into the cylinder to be mixed with fuel and burned would cause the white smoke that I was seeing. In order to test that and make sure that that was in fact the case you get this pressure test you pump it up and as time goes by the pressure should drop because it's forcing the water into wherever it's leaking.
Ok so I'm looking at a c4 it supposedly needs head gaskets the owner has started taking apart the motor and has gotten more than halfway into it both my son and I are mechanically inclined and have done head gaskets on other vehicles but never a Corvette my question is do you think it's a bad choice to buy it bc of the prior disassembly
If you have seen the rebuild, seen the car run after, then NO. Mine runs like a top. all it needs is a refined tune done to the engine. or if it is currently disassembled: If you have all the parts then not at all. you can go to the rebuild of my engine if your is an l98. or you can get the general idea of how to reassemble these engines. there are many resources for the engines of these cars. now if that is all that is the issue, no interior work needed, or body work, glass, carpet well just about everything in the car is expensive to replace. think of what you want the end result to be. I wanted daily driver, so I opted not to do anything with the exterior body other than clean and wax it. if you want Concours Condition then you will spend a LOT of money...
Would you know if the metal under the seats is steel or aluminum? I'm gonna have to replace the passenger side since it's holding water after every rainy day, and I'm worried about rust. It's a daily driver car I wanted to fix, and I don't really have access to a garage to keep it dry. /disclaimer
Can you tell us where you bought the emblems? you say don't buy them, but don't tell us which ones not to buy. There are official GM Parts products, which I assume should be good. There are a lot of Chinese emblems that are much cheaper, but don't look as good even new in the photos. I'm assuming those are the ones you bought?
Sorry about that I bought those emblems off a place on eBay it was not Eckler's it was not Corvette one it was not flight it was not zip Corvette but a person selling them on eBay. I believe in the original video where I showed the actual pieces of the emblem moving around because they came unglued I showed you where I bought them. They did replace them from the first video but they did not want to replace them after they faded like they are now

The on again off again Corvette project that seems to be sitting on the Wayside every time something happens to the silver Corvette. The Red Corvette the red 85 Corvette is finally getting into the garage finally getting its work done finally getting ready to be a real daily driver for me. I look forward to making videos and sharing them with you and I just can't wait to be able to drive this thing in the Spring.
