This is very commendable Ms. Harrell. When I saw the movie "Alice" I realized then that slavery did not end in 1865. Also growing up I would often hear my grandmother talk about when she picked cotton. So, I knew then she had to be enslaved in some, shape, form and fashion to be picking cotton in the 30s. The enslaved mentality passed on to many black families throughout the history of America. Even those who felt that they had to continue to work for white and black families, keeping their kids, cleaning their homes lets me know they still was mentally enslaved, and they sought out jobs that kept them to appear as if they were still in slavery. Many of those men/women in the 40s and 50s could have went and done better, (worked factory jobs, taught school, been a nurse) but they didn't seem to want to do better. My hats off to those persons who knew they could do better. Those who didn't feel this way, I know they was just doing the best they could to survive. Thanks
Around 1995 or later my son decided he liked running more than soccer so he got into running in Middle School then High School then College. Of course he had to do a marathon so he did Boston and the Marine Corp (his Grand-father, my Dad served in combat in WWII as a 2nd Marine). Along the way I told him the Billy Mills story. When he was at college (as a runner) at a well known east coast private college, one night I got a call from him. "Hi Dad. Guess who I just met?" I had no idea. "Bill Mills!!!" he said with so much excitement. It was as though Bill Mills story had helped propel him through all of his running and that day Mr. Mills gave a talk and my son got to meet him. Billy Mills didn't realize that not only was he running in those Olympics to fulfill his dream, he was creating dreams for SO many runners who came after him and ran in his shadow and with his spirit. So many valuable lessons from Mr. Mills. Ironically around that same time I volunteered to a summer running camp for 7th thru 12th graders. And to my surprise the guest speaker, another wonderful man and role model, was Jim Ryun. Both of them so full of goodness and kindness. Fond memories for me from those days of running.
Cancel the presidential debates and have Dr Cameron Wake speak and give a good hour for questions and answers...he doesn't have all the answers but an approach to getting us there. I am no longer a student but even the adults can't afford the electric vehicles, so conserving is also, still , a part of the solution. Great talk!
We try to avoid living in one country for long time. Changing places, living under the radar and evading government control. There are visa issues and limitations but in general we feel free and NOT tied to any society. We don't want their 'blessings ' nor their money, but feel responsible for our actions, people we meet and our environment. We are the New Bedouins ! Best decision!

OMG! I watched the movie Alice today and felt compelled to learn the true story behind the Hollywood version for myself. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I wish more people were aware of this atrocity. I will definitely be sharing this video.
In 2015 I worked for a financial firm and our job was to call business and one day a woman picked up the phone and said she had owned a plantation and she mentioned it had been in her family for centuries and I was a bit confused and then I realized what she meant later and I was totally astonished.
