"A being who had to create, because... he had to." This line is even funnier in-game. You don't get to hear the whole story at once until the very end of the game; you have to piece it together by collecting 20 disks scattered around the Neverhood. The fourth disk ends on "because..." You have to find the fifth disk just to learn that there is essentially no reason. So, if you haven't found the fifth disk yet when you watch the fourth one, you're essentially left on the least satisfying cliffhanger ever made.
"Closing of the third age". huh? That implies that there were first and second ages. Did someone create Hoborg? Or did he create himself? Did first 2 ages were empty in story, or were there one or two stories that have been LOST, COMPLETELY? Willy did say that the disks are all that's LEFT of the THIRD age. Even more, CLOSING of the third age.
Thanks to a virtual PC emulator, I was actually able to play this game. I did see a lot of clips before playing the game, but I can tell you it felt even more satisfying when I played through and beat the game.
It's more sad if you read his lore. Willie is the nephew of hoborg. He was built by hoborg brother as one of his own seven sons. But he buggers up something in making his own world and it explodes. So for willie he lost his original world. His siblins are either dead or floating endlessly across space on their own chunks of land. He was spinning endlessly through space on his own chunk. He was saved by hoborg when they passed by while he was out getting the Klay for klayworld. No indication to how long he was isolated like this before this happened. Then when finally things are looking up for willie as he gets to live in neverhood. The klayverse version of what can be a small paradise domain. Some fuckwit with a crown fetish staisis traps his savor and few remaining family he has connections with and kills him. And for extra pain. Bill was one of his father creations and one of the few surviving things he reunited with. So he got to see one of the few things of his original land to survive get blasted and beat up before he and bill were sentenced to fall in space...again! Bright side. They can both survive in space/the void.
For some reason, I find Willie Trombone really motivational, I just feel like him believing in Klaymen, not ever assuming he'd be anying like Klogg, and just generally wanting the best for him, is the most wholesome thing.
