I can tell you all as Rig's Dad that no kid has had the drive and determination like Rig. From the time he started playing sports in primary school (tee-ball) then joining the u8s Modbury Hawks Football club (he was 6 yrs old when he joined) he never gave up. He was a big lad and when the kids where running laps around the oval even if he was last he would never gave up and always completed training. As he progressed in life he has always played sports. He was even selected to go to Japan to play Baseball (he had a great throwing arm as the 3rd baseman). When he got to high school he played sports, Footy for the School Saturdays and Footy for the district team on Sundays, and just when you thought the season was over (and I could have a weekend off!) he would play cricket for the school Saturdays and cricket for the District Sundays, Thank God for his Grandfather who would enjoy seeing him play cricket,( I would rather watch paint dry!). This kid would simply not give up. He made many friends playing sports and still has these same friends today (and many more). When he finished school it took him a while to get his apprenticeship as a sparky but he was determine to follow in his Grandfather's footsteps, he applied everywhere and to his credit he landed that apprenticeship. Now all kids go astray, and knuckle head did as he explained in this video, started hanging with the wrong crowd (they all wanted to be his mate as he was as hard as nails). But it was only a short time before he woke up to himself. Now I was always hard on him, trying to keep him in line (don't hate your parents for this as it is for your benefit not theirs) He soon woke up to this after a while and got into Maui Thai at 17. He loved Training. It was shortly after this that he met Pinky. And Pinky was hard on him, Not because Pinky has a mean streak but Pinky wants to see you do well. As Jon has always said if he is yelling at you it is because you are doing it wrong and not changing your ways. If he is not saying anything to you don't take it wrong as you must be doing something right. Jon loves the Sport and he has great respect for Pinky. My wife and I are very proud of him and what he has accomplished in sports, Maui Thai (it's a great feeling to be in a auditorium and have the crowd chatting your lad's name) and life in general, he is a very respectful person. I can't wait to see the boy's next chapter in life, that is having his own kids and bringing them up I'm sure he will be a champ at that as well, as I watch him play with his nephew out the back! Massive heart. His opponent was a strong up and comer. Unfortunately the promoter just misjudged this match up. But the heart Nick showed was second to none

Which promotion has ever been for the fighters? If anyone can name one, I can guarantee that it is no longer in business. It is the _fight business,_ not the _fight friends_ or _fight charity._
I get what you mean, but there's business and there's being dogs. For example, Rebellion Muay Thai is one of the top promotions in the world and absolutely everyone is treated fairly. To the point that if a fighter got given an opportunity bigger than Rebellion can offer, he'll cancel a fight so they can go do it. The promotion is 11 years strong and done right everytime. No "owning" fighters needed, people just want to be on it
@@Team_Pinky_Muay_Thai Fighters are always going to be treated as expendable, no matter how big/small the promotion is. I have never seen a ONE Muay Thai contract but there are contracted fighters who are allowed to fight in the stadiums. (I do not know if Kulabdam is currently under contract but he definitely was, at which time he still regularly fought for other promotions.) The different treatment of fighters that have an affiliation with Evolve MMA (owned by Chatri Sityodtong) is ridiculous but that should come as no surprise.
@John.Flower.Productions the Thais One contracts are secondary contracts as they are already contracted to Thai promoters. Find a westerner who's got any freedom whatsoever. Their contracts are disgusting. Worst promotion for the fighter, unless you are Thai with a name or get bonuses
Good listen Spiro was my introduction to combat sports specifically Muay Thai. I remember my first session going home after vomiting and sorer than I have ever been - It was amazing. This dude doesn't do shit in half measures and sure he can be hard but he had his reasons and was generally fair. Remember the girl scouts hall fondly as some of the best times for me in sport. I still try to get to fights and follow what happens for Muay Thai, not just Solace. What a legend OOS AH
Cop the reaction at 24:50 , loved this pod, loved the honesty coming from chief commander coach spiros. Running a tight ship at Solace MT, your a cunt in the right ways 😂💪🫵
Hey id love to ask, so as per myself having torn 3 of my Heavybags due to increasing Knee strike intensity on my training, ive been wondering why it torn apart Is it true if the heavybag too long its not Suitable for knee strikes, as if i knee it, itll land on the centre instead of lower bottom, making the force ended up like Penetrating the long body of it in the middle,,, Is that true bro? My last 3 Bag was as tall as it reached my ankle if hanged up, i filled it with rubber as its heavier than scattered rags Perhaps you know some tips on how to keep em Bags live longer😂,,maybe tape it so its stiffer?, also which brand is durable Thanks man
In my humble opinion, long bags aren't good for Muay Thai. The shorter higher bags suit it more. Kneeing a long bag makes the centre flex which lifts the bottom then drops it. That creates the tearing. A leather 4/5ft bag is much better to use
@@Team_Pinky_Muay_Thai yea,, but im thinking about low kick as well,, well i suppose 2 separate bag for each style is the answer,,, thanks for the answer man, despite now is still morning in south east asia haha,, Btw 4-5foot, specifically how low is the bottom most of the Bag and to which body part it supposed to be parrarel with,, i mean mine before, the bottom of bag is parrarel with ankle. How high the bottom supposed to be in your case
@user-uf7fs9kc6z long bags are legitimately only good for low kicks, unless it's a leather bag which would be able to handle the flex. I don't let my amateurs throw leg kicks, so not a big problem in my gym. Most traditional Thai gyms don't use long bags either. Line the bottom of the bag up with you hip, so waist kicks are in a good spot on the bag. I'm based in Australia these days, so the hours are fine haha
@@Team_Pinky_Muay_Thai oh haha i thought youre based in Thai,, you always answered in 6am here, thats a good insight, i do am thinkinh to buy 2 separate ones for my gym for each purpose, btw what are the Fillings you use,, rubber or just rags But for all thanks a lot man, wish you and your fighter the best
@user-uf7fs9kc6z we just use rags. I top them up every week for the first couple months, then every 2-3 weeks thereafter. Gradually they will become hard as fark haha
I'm now officially a fan of your podcast. Hearing these old skool stories is inspiring me to continue training in Western boxing 🥊. I can see how training has turned you into a model citizen mate. Keep fighting the good fight 💪
Model citizen is a stretch bro. But thank you. Life is an amazing journey and combat sports just has a way of helping us fix those inner demons. Thank you so much for watching my vids bro
