Some were a bright white and some were an off white. These were darkened by age though to a much more yellow color. I did end up replacing them later on with some factory chrome ones.
No the Raider and the Rocky are both on completely different chassis. The raider is a larger thin pan chassis with the rear mounted gear box and the Rocky had a very unique clamshell center section with a Raider like gearbox in the rear and the front driven by a chain running the length of the chassis. This one is more a deep, narrow tub with a different gearbox in the front and the rear, similar more of the Tamiya 4wd series at the time (Hotshot series). It used a thin metal drive shaft to connect the two running in side the center tub.
Thanks! The black makes it look a bit tougher and a bit classier at the same time! I do have a second body so I will eventually paint the other up in blue and compare them but I think the hands down winner will the the black!
Funny I thought the manuals back in the early 90s looked like some guy in his garage taking pictures of the assembly steps in black and white, but looking back I shoulda kept those original AE manuals
@@JUMBOs-RC LoL, you are not too far off with that description! They did explain all the steps a lot better than these new ones. It is bad that they send stuff out without ever testing the instructions with someone that has not assembled the kit. They did well with the truck, they did poorly with the instructions. Especially since there are similar mistakes in the previous releases they failed to learn from. All of them give you the incorrect lengths to build the suspension links to resulting in terrible angles on everything! The truck is cool though 😂
Oh yeah I’ve seen others say the link measurements are way off, yet they give you the measurements to follow like that’s how you need to set em up. I also agree that these kits needed to include full detailed printed instruction manuals and ball bearings for the prices of up to around $400 a kit.
These trucks are AWESOME! For tire glue I have always preferred a medium CA , the thin just easily makes messes and gets where you don't want it yet, and like you mentioned, zero working time before it kicks off... Your body came out awesome looking! I would recommend after a half dozen or so runs, to open and clean out all 3 diffs and refill them... we noticed when we did so after 3 packs that the diffs had broken in nicely and the oil was reflecting that break in of the diff gears... now after a few more track days and race events we still have nice smooth diff action and I have no reason to belive they won't perform well for a long time, which is good as they aren't the easiest access ... This truck has proven to be a real winner though, lots of fun. It's a great little truggy and I hope it might just help strengthen and grow that racing class some, because it can legitimately hang with the Tekno and Xray truggies on the track. From some of the videos I've seen in YT it should also be a great all-around fun truck for anyone, even off the race track. Hope to see more follow up videos of this truck. Cheers
I was very impressed with it and I have heard a lot of good things about them. The thin CA was a bit too thin for the job/my skills at the time LOL! Thankfully I did not get glued to anything! The medium is so much more forgiving, I can wait a little bit for a full cure instead of messing up tires! The body turned out well and the looks of it are growing on me more and more! I think it helps the paint job worked out well! I will try and get a bit bolder when I go to do the other body, I am thinking drips on that one. I am a sucker for the classic drippy paint! Thanks for the tip on the diffs. I am sure the fluid get a bet full of the metal from wearing in. I look forward to getting it over and running with Al. Sadly we are soaking wet and no relief in site for the next 4 or 5 days so it will be a bit before I get over there. There will definitely be more running videos of the truck! That’s a good looking car I like the inter grated wing to the body looks like they took there pan car and a buggy and mated them together also you definitely picked the right color combo looks awesome
OK, I can see that! It does have a bit of the wedge shaped pan car style but still retains the cool buggy look. I really like the black and yellow and I am glad I went with that! Make it look a bit tougher and classy!

The black and yellow gives it a cooler and tougher look than the blue. Black and orange would look cool as well, orange with yellow borders... kind of a classic combo! Thanks for checking it out and I am glad you liked it!
It only take a while as you can only do so much at one time. The rest of the time is waiting for paint to dry! Overall it probably take 30 minutes or so of actual painting.

It is a 540 sized motor and it is a very nice one. I wish I had bought the others they had on hand at the time! It is a great motor for the 4wd buggies, lots of grunt!
The black and yellow gives it a tougher look than the blue. I do like this body style way better than its twin the Aero Streak. I do like the oddballs but between the two I prefer this one a whole lot better!
It kind of seems to be a lost release from them for some reason. I did not know anything about before I stumbled across the chassis on buyee. It is a neat buggy and I don't understand why it was not more popular. The black and yellow looks a lot cooler and tougher than the blue does. I will eventually source the parts needed to get it 100% done but for now this is close enough!
Hard to beat it for 200.00 with batteries. The X07 turned me into a Hosim fan boy and I have 20 Redcats. Other than the new Valkyrie, you couldn't give me a new Redcat. Instead, I just ordered the new 8th scale Hosim X25 that comes with 11.1 and Cadmium gears. And Amazon had the Hosim Hyper Go on sale for half off, so I bought a pair of them for the grand kids. Great little trucks. I threw the Volcano16 in the garbage, because that's all it is. No more Redcats for me.
It is a fun little truck! I know Redcat has had some flops in their lineup over the years. Some of it seems really good and others are fairly poorly done. I only have a couple of their crawlers. I enjoy these little guys as I can take it out for a rip and not worry about it . If I do break something the parts are inexpensive and quick and easy to get. I will have to check out the X25!
@@AddamsPlayground I tried to reply, but RU-vid censored my post. I guess Redcat pays them. So I'll just say this, the only way to see the X25 is at the Hosim web site. The X25 is a 400 dollar truck and they offered it to me for 240.00. I couldn't turn that down. I paid 199 for my X07. It ships in October. I think you can still get it for 270.00. I wrote them and asked them about the new cadmium gears. I got buried in emails from all over the company. Really. They treat you like you're their only customer. It also has a center differential. The kids had the Hyper Go's out today. Not a scratch. One is 4 and the other is 10. They love their Papa Dan.

Black and yellow looks great. That was a good choice. It's a cool looking retro body. One of the most unusual aspects has to be the front bumper. It appears to be very practical for pushing other cars out of your way, or may be plowing snow.

@@AddamsPlayground for the most part, there seems to be a whole different vide at rock crawling events. Guys are having fun, kidding each other and they don't take themselves too seriously. There's a lot of exchange of ideas.
Black was definitely the go. The blue did look a little toyish and not the hobby grade. Just looking at it. It seems to be up a level on the hotshot stuff. It would have been worthy competitors for those tamiya rigs. What a race that would have been

That is a snazzy looking buggy, you picked the right colors, I think it gives thaat vintage feel and the writing on the wheels instead of the tir3s is perfect. There are so many kits I've only seen in magazines or online. This is one of them...I love that side profile, it's a good looking kit. If you look hard enough you can find some really quirky kits from the golden era of RCs...but finding parts is almost impossible.
I don' really remember this one but it is a really neat one. I love how it turned out and it is a very cool bit of RC history. It is one of the more obscure ones from them and the steering setup seems to be unique to it so finding that may be a long wait! It is fine as it is good enough for now and I am more than happy to adore it on the shelf!

Thanks Bob! It is a sharp looking kit, especially in the black paint! I got a second body and will be doing the blue at some point but I am not ready for the stress of cutting out the decals yet! They white borders on the white backing paper took a lot of focus and eye strain to get the cut out! LOL!

I think it had a very short lifespan or something. I don't remember it either, I had to look it up when I found the chassis on Buyee! Super glad I got it as it is a cool looking one and I did not know at the time it was Kyosho's first shaft driven 4wd buggy!
Nice work on the body. I totally agree that the black looks way better than the blue, especially with the yellow decals. Wheels came out nice as well, i definitely haven’t got the patience for painting lettering, or the eyesight 😂
Thanks Tony. I fell i love with the black and yellow scheme as soon as I saw it. I did get sent 2 bodies from TBG so it will get a blue one done up for it as well. I was not ready to cut out the decals for it yet, the white boarders on white backing paper really proved to be an eyestrain and a half! one of the reasons I went with the wheel decals and not the tire lettering LOL!
Shame that it's missing the steering parts, good luck finding them. I picked up a kyosho Rocky a while back, and it seems to be all there, except some cracked parts. This car is one of the hardest to find parts for, so there will have to be some creative solutions. I did find a body from tbg though. It is fun bringing these forgotten wrecks back to life, but can be expensive piecing them together.
Yeah, it kind of sucks it was missing the steering parts but seeing as the chassis is completely perfect and looks like it was just built I can let it slide, especially for the deal I got on it! Finding these old parts for kits that have never been re-released and had a fairly short lifespan can be a real pain. The rocky is one I think think they really should re-release as it would sell like crazy! Both the Raider and the Rocky would do extremely well for them. A girl can dream right LOL! Enjoy getting the Rocky back in fighting shape and if I had any parts for it I would be more than happy to help out, that is one I have yet to get yet though.
Awesome job I don't mind not seeing them run I think I prefer to not see some of those run sometimes it takes a bit of the mystery and wonder away especially that they can't compete with today's cars so I like just seeing them restored and brought back to there former glory another amazing restoration Addam I'm getting closer to the duratrax resto I've started gathering some parts just need a good esc now probably get a hobbywing 1060 I'll send you an email I'll need advice on the body lol 👊
This one is a bit too perfect to take out and run around. The chassis looks like it was just built and I would hate to scratch it all up. Maybe once the last few bits are sourced it may get out in the grass for a light run just to say I ran it but nothing more than that. The 1060 is a perfect ESC for it and can handle down to 15t motors easily. I am more than happy to help any way I can! Enjoy the resto and have a great rest of your week my friend!
