His 1964 Red Allen and Frank Wakefield album has some of the best classic bluegrass singing ever, and Smithsonian Folkways has now loaded it on to RU-vid. Check it out! Here's a link to one of the cuts ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GIn5C4kkzZQ.html
What a wonderful video. Thanks for sharing it . I just want to say that hearing David mention Fred Weisz ( in the audience) brings back a great memory of a highlight in my music life. Back in about 1966 The Greenbriar Boys came to Montreal where they performed at a venue for I think a whole week. Frank Wakefield and Fred were band members and we spent a lot of time hanging out and jamming with them. But the big memory is that both Frank and Fred came to our apartment and my wife Peggy made them a nice roast beef dinner which we all enjoyed. For all their fame as artists they were so nice and appreciative of our hospitality. We were absolutely thrilled to have them as guests in our home.
I was priviledged to be in the control room with Cecil Jones when the Kentucky Mountain Boys cut several songs on their album (around 1970). They played at the Holiday Inn to packed rooms for quite awhile. The keyboard player for the Exiles--Bernie (from Hazard) was in the studio that day. Great memory.

Will you Miss Me 20:23 - A touching rendition, especially the refrain sung by David, Red, Herb and Jim, with bass passages by David. David and Red alternate lead on the verses. The performance was on the day in 1991 that Red also sang the same song in his last studio recording. He died in 1993.

That may be the best toned bluegrass mandolin I have every heard. Perfect Tone and great Bark! Has good Chop Action. Strong Volume...Very Distinct Sound...A fine musician is playing as well...
Thank you so much for posting this, I'm a big Red Allen fan and of the rest of the band, especially Herb and David. I think this is the best video I've ever seen of Red playing guitar, really appreciate it.
@@thomastwille Thank you, hope someone who knows may read this and reply. There's a reason the best of the very best have had him play with them and record.
