Hej Toby, thanks for the great video! As far as I understand from some other V3 videos, there is a slight neck dive issue. So I' m wondering if the new lighter tuners helped solving the issue. Thanks in advance🖖

@@saveyourmind Well the Schaller tuners are just a little bit lighter than the stock ones. I didn’t notice a particularly bad neck dive on my V3. On the lap every Jazz Bass has neck dive, especially if the body is rather light weight like the V3.

Hi there! Some youtubers in reviews say that J-pickup in this bass is useless and it doesn't add anything good to the sound of this model. Are you agree with that? Or the problem is in particular with the hum noise/lack of shielding or not very good J- pick up? And, say if to make shielding and buy a better J-pickup it can start to really shine ? What is your opinion? Because I've found a Gotoh PJ like this one on sale and I'm very interested in it although I'm a JB guy. But it's very difficult to find Gotoh model on second hand market so If I have a chance to buy a PJ this is also a great option.
@basstelkeller
@basstelkeller 2 месяца назад
I think the JB Pickup adds nicely to the sound. By itself the Pickup is a bit too bright for my taste, but I like the combination of P and J. It‘s very different to using both Pickups on a Jazz Bass. The Shielding is poor on this bass and a better J Pickup may sound a bit warmer…
@yurii_chynchyk
@yurii_chynchyk 2 месяца назад
@@basstelkeller thanks for your opinion. I appreciate. I guess I will try it. It’s better to have that J pickup than not having it. I can cut the wires any time and turn it into the P-bass. But I think it’s more interesting to give it a chance and first of all to do the shielding, and later it’s always possible to change the J pickup to something better or even add the active preamp!

I’ve just had a quick look on Thomann’s website and it looks like every colour-way is out of stock for ‘several months’. Maybe getting the customer to be the quality control officer wasn’t such a good idea and sliced hands didn’t go down too well? An extra few quid/euros/dollars on the price tag to pay for problems to be sorted BEFORE they fly out the door will probably do more for their reputation. Come on Thomann.

Hey Tobi, thank you for the review, you're one of the only few so far that made a video about these new series. If you are going to do breakdown of the bass and take one of the tuning machines off, it might be a good idea to look at the hidden part of the tuning plate, there should be some writing inside where it says it's made in Korea by JinHo Music. They're the company that makes all of the Wilkinson stuff, so these tuning machines should hold up pretty good. The tuners are as good as any Gotoh has produced. The reason there might be some play (and varies from machine to machine) could be the tuning post screw isn't tight enough (the big flat-head screw you see in the back of the tuner where the key shaft meets the main post) - so I would recommend tightening it to remove that play.

My Rascal had a bit of fret over-hang toward the body end of the neck. Before taking the neck in to a luthier I removed most of the gloss with 600 then 1200 grit sandpaper and now it feels like a satin finish. The neck pocket is good and the strings align perfectly. As for the intonation screws I got hold of a long Philips screwdriver to cover the distance. I use Labella's Deep Talkin' Flatwounds made specifically for Mustangs and in typical Fender/Squire fashion add more length to the E and A strings for a proper break angle. I have always played finger-style over the neck pick-up but here the bridge pick-up feels natural. The neck pick-up is a monster, very high output. This bass is probably longer than most extra-long scale basses, a perfect choice for the player who does not want to be seen playing a short a short scale(!) This is my least expensive bass, and also my favorite. Buy one from Fender.com, 10% off if it is your first purchase.

This bass is reasonably well made, but whoever thought that a stark white, toy-town pick guard was going to enhance this model wasn't ever likely to receive a design award. I've tried one of these guitars and it was very heavy and the neck wasn't too comfortable, either. Everything else was typically budget. All in all, there are many new Chinese manufacturers that are now creating some very interesting guitars, this is merely playing on 50's nostalgia and requires far too many mods and a diet to make it an attractive buy.
