There are some things that are funny to hear as a chess player/fan... like those claims that "Magnus plays psychological chess, like when he shows up late". Dude.... the only "psychological" thing that happens there is he is able to get twenty extra minutes of sleep. This doesn't affect the opponent, a professional chess player, AT ALL.
More like the narrative this video is proving wrong never existed. Hikaru has made an incredible come back in classical since being like 15th in the world and everyone counted him out
Closest guy to Magnus was Fabi for a very long time and if you could call someone Magnus rival it would be him. In reality not even Fabi is Magnus rival in true sense of that word. Magnus is just better than everyone, sole king. Hikaru is his equal and might be even better in online fastest formats as that is his specialty and he plays it way more than anyone else. Even Alireza might have edge over Magnus there. Naroditsky in bullet maybe too. I think though that if Magnus focused on those formats like 3+0 blitz and bullet he would again be unquestionable best with margin from the rest. Naka had some moments in his career when he shined and was no. 2 in the world like in 2015 and now, but you can't really compare him even to Fabi and comparison with Magnus is just ridiculous. Lots of people were no. 2 in the world for a short time. Naka is just a stable top 10 player with some ups and downs.
There was touch move in this tournament but actually Magnus said,"J'adoube"(which is what you have to say when you move a piece just to adjust it). You can see him moving his lips.
It is quite amazing how this video completely disregards Fabiano Caruana , who was actually the only one who really rivalled Magnus in classical and was perhaps as good as Magnus at his peak in 2018 and also maintained a 2800+ rating for years and instead pretends as if Hikaru was the by far no.2 player in the world and the only rival to magnus.
Magnus privately invited only Hikaru to play over 40 games with him. Hikaru has won more speed chess championships than Magnus and anybody else, something that Magnus doesnt have dominion over. Hikaru vs Magnus are always barn burner fights, that's a rivalry to me.
