I hope this channel may introduce many new and old Christians to the power, beauty, and truth declared by those wonderful displays of God's workmanship, the Puritans.
Salvation is COMPLETE and FINISHED by the work Jesus accomplished. Not by anything we do. THAT puts a curse on us when we try to add anything to HIS FINISHED work
I think John Owen is the best of the Puritans . Though I think we can see here that their whole approach to Theology was wrong ..as they use the many scriptures, skipping from NT to OT, from Pauls epistles to gospels to prophets to Psalms to Moses WITHOUT a salvation-history context or genre difference or nuances of authors. It's as if they have a theology already in mind that they are supporting via scriptures. As opposed where biblical theology seeks to expound the scriptures in context and by authors to discover the writers theology and learn from the writers of scripture. I'm not disgreeing with Puritan theology, but their overall approach was poor . It's better their writings go out of print.. less their approach be carried on.
@@SugoiEnglish1 too many examples to write. Proper biblical theology begins with understanding individual books and the book's individual authors. Their approach is systematic where they state a doctrine then quote passages supporting it. As a result they aren't "tracking with the authors". It's just that at times their insights hit the mark.
@@Liminalplace1 I would start with that approach and they did. Not everything they did was written down. Example: Their private research. They approached it as the word of God as a whole. Otherwise, taking the individual authors, you may end up with a false view such as 1 John 2:2 thinking he died for all...and contradicting other texts like Paul Christ died for the church! I get what you are saying and my wife has a seminary degree. But I prefer the Reformed hermeneutic the Analogy of Faith.
@@dionsanchez4478 as Dr.John Walton (Wheaton College) in his book "Wisdom for Faithful Reading" uses the principle he calls "Tracking with the author" because that is where the authority lies. That's the authority of scripture. I'm not sure where the analogy of faith comes in, but I think it's at the level of APPLICATION, but ought not come in during the INTERPRETATION process. For myself I accept so called "limited atonement" because I believe certain authors seem to make the atonement the ground of salvation not a condition and universalism doesn't also fit their meaning
@@Liminalplace1Here’s something else to consider: Jews would and do use your exact logic to argue against the NT. They believe Jesus, the apostles, and Christians themselves - from Catholics to Puritans - have all ripped the Jewish scriptures right out of their historical context and misinterpreted them. So, how are we to judge in either case who is right? In the case of Jewish interpretation versus Christian interpretation of the scriptures it’s easy: The resurrection. But in the case of Puritan and reformed theology in general versus other Christian theologies, I would say judge them by their fruits. Puritan theology and reformed theology generally have beyond all doubt produced some of the godliest people to ever walk the earth, eg George Whitefield, John Owen, John Bunyan, Jonathan Edwards, Thomas Brooks, William Greenhill, William Gurnell, etc. The lasting effect and blessing of these people is undeniable: they set the world on fire with evangelism and transformed Western society for the better. I challenge you to find any other biblical theology that has had such a blessed and lasting impact. TRUE BIBLICAL SABBATH (Please open the Holy Bible and read the undermentioned Biblical verses 'real time' to understand this write up better). 1. According to Bible, the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week and is to be revered. Gen 2:1-3 2. It is also the 4th commandment of God. Exo 20:8-11 3. Biblically, which day of the week is the seventh day? The answer lies with Lord Jesus' resurrection. The whole world knows and observes the resurrection day (Easter), which is invariably a Sunday. Keeping this in mind, please read the following verse. Mark 16:1-2 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, , , , And Mark 16:9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, (Sunday according to TEV Bible). Biblical seventh day is the Saturday, and thus the BIBLICAL SABBATH is SATURDAY not Sunday. 4. No alterations allowed in Bible. Rev 22:18-19 If you do, you do so at your own peril. Brother, I had the same view as yours many years back but I was wrong. Yes, the seventh day Sabbath falls on Saturday and there is no doubt about it. But we Christians are longer required to keep it. God gave Israel Ten Commandments and the Sabbath is one of them. If any man breaks just one of them he is guilty of breaking them all, according to James 2:10. Do you keep all the laws perfectly? Or, can you keep them perfectly, even the Sabbath commandment? The answer is 'NO'. God knows our inability to keep the law. You may ask now then why was the Law given. It's clearly explained in the NT. (Romans 3:19, 7:7 ; Gal.3:19) Jesus the son of God kept all the Laws perfectly so that those who are IN CHRIST through faith are not required to keep them. His righteousness, recieved by His keeping of the Law, is bestowed on us who are in Christ. Note the phrase 'in Christ' and think about its implications. The book of Hebrews says we are in a Sabbath rest through Christ. Please read Hebrews 4:9-11 especially the verse 11. Also, the Bible nowhere says Sabbath day has been changed to Sunday. But a Christian can worship God on any day of the week and all days are equal. May God help you to have the spiritual understanding that will liberate you spiritually.
@@KM-leons But if you listen to this sermon, and Jesus, he did not come to abolish the law. And those who do and teach different, will be least in the Kingdom of Heaven. Resting our bodies unto the Lord is a delight.
The Shabbat is a blessing 😊 It’s funny that the longest commandment out of the Ten Commandments is the 4th Commandment: Remember the Sabbath day. Why would God tell us to remember the Sabbath? Probably because he knew many will forget. Even if you think its Sunday, many don’t even rest on that day. When I was a kid, most stores were closed on Sunday because they were honoring the sabbath (though the wrong day) by resting and doing no servile work.
@@mirlamurillo3473 Did I say Jesus abolished the Law? I said Jesus kept the law perfectly (read my comment again). Jesus fulfilled it that we cannot fulfill. Those who are in Christ are not under that law again. That's why the Bible says we recieve the righteousness of keeping the law through FAITH in Christ. Do you know that you can't keep the Ten Commandments, even a single commandment like Sabbath as required?. If you break the Sabbath you break it all. The Bible warns us against repeating breaking God's law. You are depending on your ability to gain righteousness through the keeping of the law, which you can't. But we depend on Jesus on faith as we are unable to keep the law. Again, as Jesus has fulfilled the law we Christians, who are IN Christ, are not required to keep the law and are in a Sabbath rest. (reference given above).
@@KM-leons Hi, so then I can cheat on my husband because I don't have to fulfill the law? Jesus tells us to KEEP the law and to repent. So that we shall be saved. We're not going to be perfect. Which is why Jesus saves us as we repent each time we sin. Love you brother.

It says in Romans 10:9, it says “...thou SHALT be saved...” so the elect haven’t been saved yet, because of the word ‘SHALT’ like NOW! as it doesn’t say “...thou ART saved...” I always thought this was due in part that Christ died for certain elect, not the whole world. We could also take the scripture where it says in Ephesians about the elect and how in Eph. 1:11, “In Him we have obtained an inheritance having been ‘predestined’ ...”

What if there is a God and he has made his will known to his creation through his word? What if in his word you find the complete opposite is true to your ideology. What if because you rejected his word you by your own free will to rebel, are judged according to the words of God that you rejected🤔 Does this make God that evil or unjust God you speak of, because of your own decision to reject him 🤔 RECEIVE THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE ! ! If you are here and are not a believer in Christ Jesus, your only concern should be your reconciliation with God,, as you (and all of humanity) have been separated from Him because of sin and are awaiting His righteous judgment. As a perfectly just and Holy God, he cannot arbitrarily pardon your sin, anymore than a good judge would allow a convicted child molester to walk out of the courtroom without punishment. ANY offense toward God, however, is of an infinite nature. Being an infinite God, and of infinite worth and power, our rebellion (lack of keeping His commands PERFECTLY) necessitates an infinite punishment i.e. hell. God’s loving nature engenders the absolute hatred of evil which would include you and I. Our case is a hopeless one, indeed…. BUT…. Jesus Christ came in the flesh to atone for the sin of humanity (John 1:14), offering Himself as the spotless sacrifice pleasing to The Father (Hebrews 9:22/1 Peter 1:19), as men are utterly hopeless to save themselves (Ephesians 2:1 & 8). He bore the sin of the world and the very wrath of God (1 John 2:2/ Matthew 27:46), that whosoever would come to Him (John 3:16), forsaking their sin, could do so through His shed blood. He was crucified unto death. He rose again from the dead on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Those who believe in their heart and confess with their tongue that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead shall be saved; to the glory of God the Father (Romans 10:9). Christ is seated at the right hand of God having been given all power and dominion (Romans 8:34/Ephesians 1:20-23). He will return for His bride (the church) and establish His kingdom (John 14:3). He will judge the world in righteous judgment (Revelation 20:11-15) The Holy Spirit, being God, has been sent as earnest for true believers until Christ returns (2 Corinthians 1:22). He dwells in true believers and guides them into all truth (John 14:16-17, 26/John 16:13). REPENT! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand (Matthew 4:17).🌹
Praise th3 Lord! No one knows Father unless they know Christ! No man gets to Father but THROUGH the Holy Holy Holy name of Jesus Christ who was, who IS, and who WILL be forever more God as He is the Holy Ghost incarnate and represents 2 parts of God on earth at THAT time, a sliver of time in a biblical time line of Holy proportions of God of which has been written as historical fact so sinners such as ourselves as ALL fall short of His glory and all have sinned as being in the flesh is to be of sin and in sin can and should repent and seek God with all our minds, our hearts and our flesh to not only be the best YOU that God knows you can be but to understand why the world is the way it is and how you may be a glimmer of Hope in someone else's life because you walk in the spirit and the scales have been removed from the eyes of those who are accounted as righteous in Gods eyes may through the Holy name of Jesus lead others to Him as well. That is OUR job as human beings who gained wisdom by the fear of God, is to bring others to Him, through Christ and His word. My love FOR God brought me here. God bless us all.

With all due respect to John Owen, the Scripture disagrees with him plainly - Christ gave himself a ransom for all. 1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
John Owen was a great Theologian. Are you a great Theologian?? He probably forgot more theology in one day than you'll ever know in your entire lifetime.
How refreshing to hear this. I don't know how long it's been since I've taken the meat of scripture at church. I only read it or hear it on RU-vid of all places (thank you for these gems). I was so hungry. . Not many talk about the word or the Lord aside from the sermon but so many talk about TV shows, movies, etc..
