How incredibly FABULOUS! The late Chita Rivera was a lovely woman and brilliant dancer all of her life! She did many twists and turns and leaps and whatevers that most other dancers simply couldn't. She could turn from back to belly IN MID AIR when male dancers tossed her! She was extraordinary! Her dancing and singing were a gift to us all!
I saw her perform this in her cabaret act at The Grand Finale in NYC in 1974, the year before Funny Lady was released. Kander & Ebb already had this song in their catalogue & the way she performs it in this video is exactly the way I saw her do it live. I especially love how she torches the hell out of the second half of the song. Brava diva. 💖
I have never seen anyone execute that song the way she just did! She made it exclusive to her, and it was COMICAL! She OWNS that song! From what I have heard from from clips from the play, it is much more comical than the movie. If that's the case, they should have made the 2002 movie more blatantly comical! It's all in the way the actors say things. But her performance she just gave was just outstanding!!!
