I'm a die hard Wings fan. I like any true wings fan, I absolutely hated this guy. I have to say I have grown to respect him after watching multiple interviews with him and D-Mac. We would have probably loved him as a wing, but hated him because he wasn't. Chris Chelios had the same effect, but he actually became a Redwing, and became a fan favorite.

Overtime goals, 7th game winning goals. 19 game winners in the playoffs. 4 cups on 3 teams. The Conn Smyth gave a lot of shine to his Stanley cup. He didn’t get his name carved into the silver mug 4 times as a spare parts, he sure earned it. Always thought he was a sure fire hall of famer. But as someone mentioned, Scotty Bowman must have had something to do with that. Don Cherry didn’t help his cause nor being a frenchie, whom Canada is actively trying to phase out of existence. It’ll happen sooner rather than later. Why did they move the Hockey Hall of fame from Montreal to Toronto? Other than spite and taking anything frenchies could take pride in. Wasn’t everyone warning anyone in gouvernement to let Bombardier die? If Patrick Roy didn’t win the Conn Smyth he would have had at least 2 .
One of the most intense and exciting playoff studs to ever play. If he was on YOUR team, you loved him. If he was on the OTHER team, you absolutely hated him. 4 cups with 3 teams, Conn Smythe, 19 playoff game winning goals, 20 year career...would be in the HHOF if it weren't for Bowman being on the Board.

I think watching the ref slap Shawn on the back to indicate they needed to gtfo, and the ref literally running away was the best indicator... Lemaire's trap was ingenious...but it did kill hockey. It was within the rules, but was a disaster not only for the game, but for many careers of talented men we could have seen more properly shine; Modano, Sundin, Forsberg, Sakic, Federov....blah blah, the list goes on and on. Claude was shitty as a player sometimes, but I do not hold him in the same category as Avery or Cooke, Domi, or other straight up goons. He coula actually play the game, and that was was so disapointing about him. He could actually skate and score goals, and still played thre pest character hockey does not need. Oh well. I used to side with Bret 100% but after some time, it just seems too much like a huge worked shoot. Bret, being an employee of the WWF, should have done what his boss asked him to do. Yes, Bret had 100% creative control in his last thirty days, but when your boss tells you to do something, you do it. Remember folks, this is professional wrestling. Everything is fixed. Bret wouldn't have made $1 less by doing what he was asked to do. I am convinced that this was a worked out plan by Vince, Bret, and the WWF/E. Bret gets "screwed", goes to WCW, flatlines in doing nothing for just over two years. WCW wastes tons of money and is unable to continue to dominate the Monday Night Wars while, Vince uses the heat he gets from the "Screw job" and uses it to make billions in a feud with Steve Austin. WWF eventually is so successful that they buy out WCW and Bret returns several years later and has a "feud" with Vince and everything is water under the bridge. But, who knows anymore. I guess the only ones who know for sure are Vince and Bret. I don't even think that Vince would let Shawn in on the secret.

The ONLY part I disagree with is Bret "resigning" as champion. I think they should have had Undertaker beat Bret and then have Undertaker lose to HBK at Royal Rumble after interference from Kane. Everything could have happened the way it ended up...

It baffles me that people still think this was just Bret taking himself too seriously and not wanting to lose in Canada. That's obviously what WWE was shoving in everyone's face but he didn't want to lose to HBK. The same HBK who did everything in his power, including faking a retirement to ensure he'd never lose to Bret Hart, so I don't get why Bret's always getting flack for taking shit too seriously. Wrestling is full of massive egos, Bret included, so of course he'd have a problem with Shawn saying he'd never drop the belt to him. Two traditional values collided here. One was the practice of dropping the belt before you leave, the other is the in coming champion (HBK) showing proper appreciation/gratitude to the outgoing champion (Hart). I guess it's a matter of opinion on who you feel is right.
