On-duty law enforcement injury that led to me having this surgery approximately 2 years ago… I have 7/10 aches and pains on a daily basis, 25 years old- athletic physique- 5’08” 190lbs. It took me about a month in a cast with no leg usage. Then about another on crutches, but still felt incredibly unstable. I began walking around with a cane after my crutches to allow my ankle more time to heal post surgery. I went to Physical Therapy twice a week, for about a year, paid for by worker’s comp, and it helped a lot with my overall mobility, but only got back maybe around 65-70% total mobility. During this time, I gained about 25lbs due to not wanting to work out from the pain. I kept saying, “I’ll give it more time to heal”. 2 years later and I’m back in the gym, consistently, and I can lift and do my everyday life including working LAPD. However, the pain still aches and hurts every second of the day. I’m sitting right now, and my ankle is throbbing. What I’m trying to do is lose body fat, to put overall less stress on my ankle and weight lifting to bring back the surrounding muscles in my leg to help aid the ankle. Working out definitely makes it more sore, but I feel like I’m becoming more resilient. I figured I had my ankle for 23 years, prior to the surgery… it’ll take me a good amount of time to start feeling “back to normal”. So far, it definitely hasn’t but one can only hope. If I go into a foot pursuit of a suspect, I can do just fine and last a good amount of time (before my weak cardio starts to kick in). However, my ankle will be swollen like a sprain right after. The good thing is the pain is always constantly at a 7, so when you do hurt it like this, it bumps up to about an 8. Feel free to send me a message on IG @chrisjuly723 if you would like to know more or have any questions… best of luck to those needing the surgery! Hope this helps…
Hei, Sutapa! Have you recovered already? I have the same issues, as the clinical diagnosis said i have problem in my ATFL and CFL Tear D. Does it need a surgery?
Ive been walking around with a complete atlf tear for two year and a partial tear in the cfl and I may need this surgery soon as my ankle rolls often 😅 thanks to medical negligence when my initial injury happened!
Been there n I have ehlersdanlos syndrome. I was walking on a torn tendon for 9 months before they believed me was bogus. This was before I was diagnosed with this illness. Now I know what I have and it makes so much sense. Also, I've had the surgery and I've already resprained it nine times. This ninth one has been the worst. I get another MRI on Saturday. I'm nervous
It went great. The surgery lasted around 2-3 hrs, they put a boot on my leg and prescribed me painkillers. Before the surgery they gave me a nerve blocking shot so it wouldn’t be to painful for 24hrs. I had to wear the boot everyday for two weeks. Was able to walk without crunches by like day 4-5. Week 3-4 I’m walking and living a pretty normal life while doing physical therapy. Ankle will fully recover in 2-3 more months
after 3 weeks i Just got my stitches removed & my doctor suggested i dont need any physical therapy instead Suggested i buy a elastic mcdavid brace for my ankle And he would like to see me in a week... Should i still consider the PT ?
The tearing of atfl was the result of a dumb jump in the middle of the basketball game . Does anybody have idea about what i can do for it? It was 6 months ago but my doctor said that i dont have to do a surgery and it will be okay.but now i still feel pain in my ankle and somethings its colour changes to red.....should i di this surgery?
All 3, atfl, CFL and PTFL are torn completely r foot... Could you recommend links to show my employer, as they're expecting me to be able to return to the school school immediately after surgery... And I'm not being listened to as my whole ankle is in a cast for 8 weeks following this xx
I'm booked in for surgery in june but im curious to see how they repair the ptfl? L&D hospital aren't great, they missed my fractured foot, I kept going back to A&E and was messed about. Gp referred me back to my local hospital in herts and they're brilliant, i had another xray and it confirmed i had fractured my foot but because L&D refused to investigate it last November, I've now developed early onset of friebergs disease??
I use old soccer ⚽️ shoes but end up ankle twisted so bad . 2019 up to know -- I’m scared to go surgery my doctor told me he want to use Metal because no cartilage at all or my cartilage is totally done . So need a new one . Could anyone have idea what should I do . Now . Mayo clinics Minnesota, Rochester.
just had this done 3 weeks ago, and everyday since has been horrible with non-stop pain and still pretty much zero movement. And, now I also have nerve damage that happened during the surgery. It's is going to be along 6-12 months recovery :(
after playing badminton for more than 15 years i just had a severe ankle sprain yesterday night playing it late night 😢 totally avoidable cos my frnds are all done tired and stopped playing but i insisted to play one more game and my ankle twist happened which was also totally avoidable i tried an unplayable shot 😢and also the surface( it's a cheap synthetic mat) of the court doesn't get along with the non marking shoes i wore... the momentt it twisted i heard a pop sound clearly💥 now I don't know what would be the resukt until i visit a doc and get scanned... i really fucked up 😂
I heard a nice stretching sound on my ankle from doing BJJ. I have an appointment on Friday, and I'm dreading it... it only really hurts moving it side to side and i mean really hurts. I never have felt this type of pain from a sprain.
I severely fractured my calcaneus (heel bone) and am currently 1 month post op with a titanium plate and 8 screws. Although I knew I badly sprained my ankle after my injury, I also suspected I broke something. As such, during my initial ER visit, the first action taken was an X-ray which revealed my severely comminuted calcaneal fracture. It’s only now in hindsight that I realize all of the focus both on the physician’s and my part went to my heel fracture and the ankle sprain was essentially completely ignored. Because I only received an X-ray and no MRI at the ER, the sprain was forgotten about upon the fracture discovery. Sounds crazy but that’s just how it went. As I mentioned, I’m 1 month post op for the surgery to reconstruct my calcaneus but my ankle mobility is still severely limited and personally I feel like the majority of the pain I’m experiencing (even on pain medications) is a result of the sprain and not necessarily completely from my surgery recovery. I’ve expressed my concerns with my orthopedic surgeon and I’ll be getting an MRI soon. Hopefully I won’t need another surgery…
I just sprained my ankle 6 days ago, I was able to walk on it on day 3 and I been up and around but in a moderate pain. I feel something behind my ankle that doesn’t feel right but I’m able to get around places. This sound familiar or did you immediately know it was broken ?
@@OFFICIALRover I was like 95% certain I broke something after my accident lol sounds like you might be feeling the swollen Achilles tendon from the sprain. You’re still very recently injured so it’ll take time for it to feel normal again, take it easy!
Hopefully the sprain was not that bad (i.e. not a grade 3 or even 2) as I assume you've been very immobile following the surgery, and ankle sprains generally require you to start using the ankle almost immediately after injury. I once had a very bad sprain and was put in a boot for two weeks which I later learnt was the worst possible thing to do. Start using your ankle (conservatively) as soon as you can. I always said I'd rather break a bone than badly sprain an ankle or any ligament for that matter. Fingers crossed for you.
@@somerled5513 Thanks, unfortunately I spent a solid 2 months with zero weight bearing on the foot/ankle while the fracture was healing. I’m finally walking on the foot but now but my I’m having a lot of pain and severely limited mobility. My doctor recommended to resume weight bearing and if it still seems something is off then we’ll get some scans done to look for any tears. (I kinda think I tore something but we’ll see)
1. Mild joint effusion noted in ankle joint. 2. Mild edema noted along posterior talo fibular ligament with surrounding fluid - possibility of sprain likely. 3. Mild tenosynovitis noted along parioneal tendon. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS REPORT PLZ REPLY ..
Yes I have I'm around 11 weeks post surgery now. Super stiff wrist and going to hand therapy 2 days a week now to help loosing the scar tissue. For me they used temporary pins that was planted inside my skin though
I rolled my ankle a year ago, still painful so I went to the doctor a month ago and I have four torn ligaments. I had this procedure done last week along with something else that stabilizes the two large bones. It was minimally painful with very little bruising
It is on the lateral side but it is located towards the anterior. The other corresponding lateral ligament is called the posterior talofibular ligament because it is located towards the posterior.
HELP! I twisted my right ankle, when a car hit me and runaway, leaving me on the ground helples, neighbours helped me to limp back to the home, and day after i went to WRONG and BAD "fameously good ortopedic surgeon"-that did not made rtg og that injured ankle,he just wrap arround my feet-(tenosyvitis) elastic bandage, and said that i dont need to wooory abou, just not to be heavy on the right leg-ankle,for some time, that was in 2018. Not sure if I should have this surgery. I was injured when kicking the ball the same time as my friend, he’s fine but I was hurt badly. Thought it was going to heal naturally so I did’t see a doctor, however 4 years later it won’t fully heal and I still have discomfort/pain especially when driving or bending my foot downward. Should I go to see a doctor and diagnose it? I’ve lost like 10-15% of my right foot balance….oh god, think about it, I should really do…
Damn man, same story, i ve torned this ligament in the video, i had the surgery but it didn't go well cause i began walking two weeks after surgery, but my ankle felt way more stable after surgery, Ihad to repeat it again and give 2months to heal, Im not repeating that mistake again
yes they do, i tore mine in half completely on the 28th of feb and its never going to fully heal but I am able to return to sports in 3 weeks becuase it is stable now, it has reconnected enough that you can do what you want to an extent
@@robertov1781 one week on my bed. Then, 3 weeks walking with crutches. After that month, I could walk normally. You have to do some rehab so you are able to do exercise again.
I will possibly be getting this surgery done in a month (depending on insurance). I was hoping for regional anesthetic so that I could watch but the Doc says no. It looks simpler than I thought.
@@RyanArab the surgery is super chilled and I was able to go home the same day. I also had a nerve block so didn't have any pain until the following night after my operation and let me tell you it was bad! Looking back I should have been taking the painkillers regardless of the nerve block because it would have prevented the pain. It is important that I add that I have quite a high pain tolerance. The pain only lasted about two days and now almost a week after my op I don't have much pain but it seems to come and go. to be honest, the cast is super chilled and comfortable - in my opinion, I prefer it to the boot - Showering is not easy but I hate it when I don't shower so I managed to shower every 2 days because, to be honest, it is exhausting. I got a cast protector which makes a huge difference because wetting the cast is a no-go. Other things I would add is don’t worry about how you sleep. I manage to sleep in any position without my foot on a pillow and it has been fine - just remember to take your anti-inflammatory before bed and when you wake up - it makes a huge difference and helps with the throbbing in your ankle when you put it down. I only have my foot down for 10 min per hour and have been fine with that just remember to do so leg exercises for your leg and hip due to the lack of movement. other than that the leg scooter is a must and a lifesaver as your hands become so sore from the crutches! just remember that physio is a must and to not push yourself too hard
Can anyone that has had it detail what your limitations are post surgery healing? Are you able to return to sports? Or have they advised against any sports?
