Experimenting for 25 years in a musical conquest for emotional freedom, Nathan Gray has left no stone unturned, having dipped his hands into international success fronting projects in hardcore, metal, pop-punk, gothic-pop, and acoustically delivered dark hymns.
Finally, baptized in fire and arriving at a season of peace, confidence and vulnerability, Gray presents his first solo adventure, ripe with melodically-driven power anthems of light and love. Longtime fans of his work with boysetsfire can expect Gray’s third solo release (due out early 2020) to be just as engaging, and reminiscent of his time as The Casting Out, with nods to artists like The Replacements, Rick Springfield, Husker Du and The Cars.
I was always a fan of BoySetsFire, Nathan has an incredible voice! I hadn’t really listened to them in a while though, and had no idea Nathan had anything with RA. Then I saw he came out with this new album, so I figured I’d give it a listen (and it’s amazing, yes!) and then just set my phone down without really looking so I was just listening. And then I’m sitting there like “damn, either I seriously have a bad case of Rise Against on the brain (I’m seeing them next month, and have a little bit of a crush on Tim haha), or that guy just sounds exactly like him”. Then I looked! 😂 😂 God, I love when my favourite artists collab! It’s always fucking gold just like this!
It’s absolutely fine to like, love or even be disappointed by this song, however, for me personally, even though simple songs can be utilized brilliantly at times, I do actually feel that with this particular song, the tune, lyrics and meaning are too unintelligently simple when compared to Nathan Gray’s previous releases. I also think it sounds too much like an average young teenage band, which would be fine if it wasn’t Nathan Gray! Nathan Gray’s solo work and Boysetsfire are both individually really great, but I have to admit I don’t feel the need to listen to this song. I still hope to enjoy the album though. Obviously, this is just my opinion, so I still hope you continue to enjoy it along with loads of other fans.
