We are a family of seven living on a 20 acre homestead in the piedmont region of North Carolina. We started this channel almost a year after beginning our adventure with hopes of documenting all of our random projects and steady progress as we restore and upgrade this neglected farm. Along the way, we hope to share thoughts about faith, family, and life out here for anyone that might be considering a transition to a more self-sufficient life in a rural setting. AMDG+

Here in South Florida in the leaf litter of sea grape trees these things get about 3+ inches across and is patches that contain dozens of pounds. I just picked probably about 5 pounds of them 2 days ago. They are delicious

I live in a RV in Texas. Gets pretty hot during the Summer and sometimes we have some good freezes during the winter. Right now I have a 6 gallon HWH. It is electric and gas. The only time I use hot water is to take a shower. I have a dishwasher that has its own heating element. Would an electric on demand work good for me? And how long can you shower with one?

So how about now? Yellow jackets have gotten so bad that I need to buy a suit. They are building nests in everything and are difficult to get them out. The ones in the ground are easy but it’s the other ones that’s a problem. What would you recommendFor a suit?

I Ukranian, from NYS and we picked them every fall for Christmas ... when a good pick.. we would string them up and hang then on the stove to dry.......my mom also canned them.. and later froze them... can't clean them with water and freeze... anyway had them all year.. dried, great flavor, canned and frozen.... so, if you get a bunch try some of what I said. Makes delicious soup

We stay in southern spain, whwre it can get to 40 degrees C(104 fahrentheit) And coldest in winter will only be -2 in early mornings (28 fahrentheit) So we sont need to keep thw heat in but ratjer get it out as moat of the year is warmer not colder, So i wo t be putting foam around the hole, simoly to just get rid of the heat more, as that is the biggest problem for us.

We love these and eat the stems with them. This is a Fall variety for us in Michigan. I tend to pick them as small "buttons" because the larger they are, the more tiny white larvae they have. Just leave some in a bucket in your garage for a couple days and you'll see what was not noticeable when first picked. Once cooked, they freeze well in freezer bags. Add them to stews, casseroles, etc. Very tasty. Don't mind the slimy texture!

you under-estimate the buoyancy of warm/hot air, it takes a lot of power to push hot air *down* into the underground tubes. Your fans will not produce the expected cfm. The tubes will also add a 'static pressure' loss, further lowering the cfm. The leaf-blower has the power needed (1 horsepower ~ 746 watts) to move the air. Your little fans ... don't.

I use bamboo and tie bells to the top of the bamboo. They’re very flexible every time they touch the ring works perfect.

I think its your 6" pipe manifold. Thats why i asked if it was a clos3d system. Think of how water flows in the place of air. Do you have a bunch of turns & bends for the air/water to travel? 😮

👋 if your building up in Canada, i would suggest doing a Walipini instead. Save & use all the earth. Adding geo-thermal to a walipini you can almost grow tropicals.😊

I'm a girl and have 21 acres of Ancient Oak . I have a 4 inch chainsaw and hand saw and slowly working my way through maintaining it and freeing up from overgrowth. I make piles of branches etc. for the wildlife and big branches to decompose back into the ground . It's amazing how finely tuned it all is .. In the summer it grows crazy with wildflowers etc and come winter all gone . It's hard work on my own , but will continue until I meet my nature loving bae .

It would be interesting to bury a septic tank or square shipping tub as a heat retaining void to reduce back pressure and increase vol surface area to dirt as well.
