I always thought this was a reference to the Hathor episode. It was so bad that it was retroactively made non-canon, so of course mitchell wouldnt be allowed to know about a retconned mission.
IIRC ... There was this episode where SG-1 discovered something and the beings that were discovered - because they had been discovered - were going to do something like blow up Earth. To convince these beings not to blow up Earth - they promised to never tell anyone about what they found on this mission - and the only people who knew about it - were the SG-1 team. So - in order to not be destroyed - they had to never tell anyone what they had discovered. And THAT is the mission they can't talk about - because if they did - these Beings would destroy them. IIRC ... .
When SG-1 went back in time the ' Young Soldier ' who helped them would become General George Hammond but who were the ' Hippie Couple in the Flower Power Van ' ? Remember the ' hippies ' were headed to Canada because the Husband got Drafted for Vietnam . The ' Hippie ' wife was pregnant . Colonel Mitchell , anyone ?! The Team really did know Mitchell while he was yet in the womb .
I absolutely love how this scene caters to both fan bases; Those who want to believe Mitchell is actually Jack's son from when they went back in time in the episode 1969 and those who want to believe that the OG SG-1 are just messing with Cam because he's the 'new guy'. It's brilliant storytelling/writing and fits so well with the theme of the 200th episode. They certainly don't make shows like Stargate anymore and our lives are worse off for it haha
The best part is, they're not completely lying about the classified file. They're probably referring to the incident where the aliens who could perfectly replicate a person's appearance and personality took over the SGC. Later in the series, the devices the aliens used made a reappearance and they mentioned how it was such a huge security risk that they completely erased any evidence of the attack.
I remember from the director's commentary that Mitchell reading *all* the mission reports was a reference to his actor (Ben Browder) voluntary watching every single episode of the show in preparation for his leading role.
@@SioxerNikita The same should go for writers. It drives me crazy whenever a new episode comes out and just ignores important stuff that happened in past episodes and introduces a ton of inconsistencies because the writers clearly didn't care about or know about previous episodes.
@@Subjagator There is something important here. When a show is written, not every episode is written chronologically, and many are written at the same time. In those cases it is not a question of people not having read or followed along with the material, but often a question of two different contradictory things written at the same time, and it not being noticed. You can quite literally have like one of the first episodes of a season be one of the last that are written, although that is rare. Other times it is an issue of the background material being essentially far too large to actually consume. Even if I hired a million dollar director, I don't think I'd expect him to watch 130 hours of material, along with all the other supplementary material that would be required for that job.
@@Subjagator Nicholas Meyer had never watched Star Trek prior to working on Wrath of Khan. Yeah, the film considered by many to be the best of the whole lot. Funny that, huh?
I still can't decide if this is 1) a seamless collaborative lie purely to mess with Col. Mitchell, or 2) them telling him the truth as a cover for the fact that they're telling the truth because it's so fantastical that they know he would never actually believe it.
