What a superb performance! I can't help but feel that the Master himself would have been thrilled by this. This young man wields the real Beethoven fire, yet with absolute control. An utterly breathtaking and spellbinding interpretation.
I like this a lot. Usually I think Godowsky is OTT, his arrangements actually hiding what is musically important - but this performance of this arrangement, I like!
This is a lovely rendition, but the symphony is too complex for a single piano. Inevitably, some passages seem unwieldy and clunky. A much better solution is with two pianos, and is found in Trifonov and Babayan's recital on DG. In glorious ultra HD sound, it is simply breathtaking. Check it out.
This piece has a linear, almost improvised quality to it. There are hints of previous works that come and go. At 02:25, the sun breaks through briefly, but the feeling at the end is "that's about all the optimism I can muster; let's leave it at that". Beautiful performance. Thank you for posting this.
