The official RU-vid Channel of world-famous comics artist Matt Frank, the "Kaiju King," artist for Godzilla, Gamera, Transformers, Power Rangers, and more!
Absolutely love the enthusiasm, Matt. Keep it coming. Pssssst, on a complete random note, do you know if there is any way possible I could get my hands on a Nebula figure from Howl Beyond the Fog??? I know its a long shot, but I had to try. Your videos are what turned me on to that gem of a short film and it's such a unique Kaiju design. Cheers!
I had a thought: I could put a grippy surface on your slanted art desk so everything stays exactly where you set it so you could use more of the surface...
Yaaayy glad it all arrived safely! Hopefully the shop will be up and running by the end of this month!! (But for now you are apart of the very super exclusive goosegan owners club)
Aww, just waiting for those ADORABLES keychains that quazies is preparing, I'm good with one, but if my wallet could afford it, I would get ALL OF THEM CAUSE THEY ARE SO PERFECT🥰🥰
(this is a comment I also posted on another channel addressing this issue) It's a combination of the nature of fandom in general and the appalling toxicity of the internet. Sci-fi fandom is overwhelmingly male, and fans are people who continue to use their imaginations throughout their lives, instead of clamping them off in adulthood, as we are pressured to do. We can do that because we still have a part of us that remains childlike. That is, as we know, positive and negative, because, while giving us an energizing sense of wonder, it can also cause us to be immature. The hate posts and threats are a disappointing evolution of childhood name-calling and playground bullying in a time in our culture when spreading nastiness without consequences is practically effortless, and younger and younger people are able to access the fandom. The innate immaturity that allows us to enjoy fantastic films and other media leaves many of us socially underdeveloped and less able to relate to 'normal' people. This includes our conceptions of sex and sexuality. You're dealing with a predominantly-male population whose sexual access is often limited by their differences in nature from the majority of the population, so you're going to find a lot of individuals who don't know how to act appropriately. All this put together is a recipe for toxicity and disregard for social norms. I am NOT excusing any of this deplorable, even illegal behavior. I have pondered on this phenomenon since I first experienced fandom up close over 30 years ago, and thus far, these are the conclusions that I have arrived at.
I really appreciate your constant voicing for injustices and issues within the community(but also in general) especially stating hem at the forefront of the video. Keep it up! You have 100% inspired me to be more active and to educate my peers on the importance of tackling these issues. Your artwork is super cool, cant wait for GFest XXX
Adore you friend! Thank you for the shoutout! Truthfully, G-Fest wouldn't be the magical time it was had it not been for you and Kaston! 💕 So, thank YOU!
Admittedly, I'm not a "die hard" Godzilla fan, but I've slowly been sliding my way into the Gojira-verse (as I say). Although I live under a mountain (at this point like I miss everything), I do find this informative. I'm not pushed away, but glad for a heads up or warning for potentially odd behavior. Good on you sticking up for those who may not have the voice to say something. Props for you, props for you 🫡 Also, is that destroyer in the back?
I agree, the godzilla fandom has been getting extremely toxic, they’ve been attacking shippers, fan art creators, basically everyone who is so-called “cringe” “not a real fan” and other shit, though there is a good side of the fandom, so this response is both right and wrong.
Thank you for posting this, Matt. Even as an older woman, yes - I’ve experienced the sexism in the fandom. Not to the extent of others, but it just sucks.
I haven’t interacted with the general Godzilla fandom in like 15 years. Sad to see that it’s somehow gotten worse since then. People used to pick on you if you were only just kinda autistic.
Why am i crying. Wait, I remember, Ultraman defended humanity and the environment against all foes. Just like the misunderstood Godzilla. Just like me. 😊
From what I have see, they're not fans or just regular enjoyers of Godzilla, they are outsideers that want to join just to cause chaos and change people to think like them. Just like Warhammer, MtG, D&D, Star Wars, Star Trek and many more have fackers hiding and waiting to ruin fun for everyone because "Why should you have fun" mentally is usually what is going in their head, they want attention that that's all they want. Since -1 came out in December of last year I can definitely say they're a lot of faker's trying to hate others for not liking one version of Goji, when in reality we really don't care he's a character or better yet an Actor. He fills a roll that is need for the movie he's in. By that knowledge these "fans" will try to make garbage up to start a flame war and use it for attention and artificially make themselves known better in the wider public. It's all for attention and that's that. Sorry I can't explain why any better bug this is what i got from the chaos.
Another problem is that children are a majority of Godzilla fans and the whole point of a fandom is to connect with people who have a similar interest which is something a lot of children want to do. And these disgusting people in the community are going to leave a terrible impact on them. And not just them but every other person in the community. I hope someday this community will become safer because that’s what any fandom should be. Everyone should be welcomed and respected because a fandom isn’t just a certain group of people but rather a slice of people from different cultures, backgrounds, and more differences that should be respected. Thank you for sharing this to a wider audience as this problem has been growing for a while.
When it comes to this kind of conversation, everyone always says "Oh that's just how fandoms are, let it go!" or "You're overreacting" or the hundreds of other disgusting drivel people say to ignore the matter at hand. People would rather be silent and complacent all for the sake of something like comfortability instead of doing the right thing and speaking up. Indeed that's how fandoms are, but do they have to be that way? No. No, they do not. We can and *should* choose to be better and speak up when shitty people do shitty things. Also, wanted to quickly thank you for speaking up on this Matt! Not many people with your platform would and its awesome to see you using it to spread awareness
Oh......hell.......YES!!!!!! God bless you, young man for speaking up. I have been a major Godzilla fan since around the early 80s probably, but an even more hardcore fan of Doctor Who since the 70s. Do you have ANY idea how the bigots have come out from under their rocks over the most recent DW series? As a an indian (Aniyunwiya/Cherokee) man, I cannot tolerate a bully or a bigot. It does my heart so much good to see someone (especially a white man) speak up bravely, as you have, for marginalized people. May Unetlanuhi bless you abundantly!
Solid movie, recommended to every parent I know, also having to explain that Japan loves Baseball as much as the US does. Strange timing to have this and Hololive both work with the Dodgers in such close release dates. Huh, when typing in Ultraman, the next autofill suggestion was "Q".
This is one of the major reasons why I gave up on the MonsterVerse. When the MV first started way back in 2014, all I wanted was a series of great American Godzilla movies that I could consistently enjoy and make new friends along the way, where we could gush over how much we loved said movies . . . Instead, all I got was an abysmal MCU ripoff made up of a bunch of bland, mediocre cash-grabs and an overly toxic fanbase that spawned from it. When it comes to American Godzilla movies, I’m not expecting “Minus One” levels of storytelling, but I still expected a better semblance of care and nuance than what we got with the MV, but that’s a whole other can of worms I won’t dwell on here. The biggest problem is how overly defensive and reactionary the fanbase for the MV is. This franchise has spawned so much unnecessary anger and hatred. If you say ANYTHING even REMOTELY negative about ANY of the MV movies, even if it’s constructive criticism, they will ALWAYS gang up on you for being different! They take even the tiniest of criticisms SO personally! It’s almost as bad, if not just as bad, as the Snyderverse fanbase! I officially gave up on the MV after seeing GVK because I knew things were never going to improve, both the quality of the movies, themselves, and the hateful fanbase that keeps insisting these movies are “good”, despite all the glaring problems those films consistently have (Even people who say they “like” the MV freely admit they’re disappointed in multiple aspects of those movies). I still love Godzilla. I’ll always show my support for the franchise in one form or another, especially for the Toho side of the spectrum . . . But the fact that the American side of the fanbase has devolved into THIS level of horrid behavior is absolutely appalling. The worst thing about it is that many MV fans think the American Godzilla movies are the ONLY Godzilla movies that matter (Despite the fact those shitty American movies wouldn’t even exist without the Toho movies). That mentality is disgusting, insulting, and poisonous! The MV has left me scarred. It has given me trauma and horrible memories that gave me so much anxiety and depression over my own self-worth as a G-fan. I will never forget the awful things those toxic fanboys have said to me over the years (Especially how they’ve said I’m a “fake fan” for criticizing the MV movies, despite being a fan of the Toho films for almost 30 years now). After so much emotional turmoil, I bid farewell to that forsaken franchise. I HAD to give up on the MV in order to start healing. Those people do NOT deserve to have the MonsterVerse continue, whatsoever!
@@nerdsman567 Dude, why do you always feel to write an essay to say you didn't like the movie? Just don't watch them if you don't like them, it's not that deep, you don't need to signal it to everyone.
@nerdsman567 This particular situation has nothing to do with the MonsterVerse, yet your somehow making it about yourself and the fact that you don't like the MonsterVerse just so you can lash out at people. You complain about how "reactionary" and "toxic" the fan base is yet you've been constantly posting the same rant on various Godzilla related posts and lashing out at everyone ever since Godzilla vs Kong was released, and the second anyone calls you out on it you lash out at them and try to play the victim. Is it any wonder why the fanbase is annoyed at the way you've been acting? If you dislike the MonsterVerse, that's fine, but quit using it as an excuse to lash out at everyone.
@@SasquaDash There have been several other Godzilla fans who have been verbally harassed by toxic MonsterVerse fans. Not just me. Even when people make legitimate criticisms towards the MV movies, the fanboys come in and ruthlessly attack them because they take those criticisms WAY too personally. I’d be fine with people liking the MV movies if the MV fans weren’t so aggressive about their opinions.
@@nerdsman567 Your complaining about how the MonsterVerse fans are being overly hostile towards you, yet you've been just as hostile towards them, often times lashing out at random people who've done nothing to you. I'm sorry if you've had bad run ins with some MonsterVerse fans, I've had bad run ins with people in the Godzilla fandom as well (mostly the elitist fans that try to act like they're better than everyone else), but constantly going on the same rant over and over while continuously throwing hatred towards them and the franchise isn't going to solve anything, it's just going to make them more annoyed with you. Again, If you don't like the MonsterVerse that's fine, but constantly using it as an excuse to lash out at people is kind of uncalled for.
This fandom was So amazing until Some RADIOACTIVE IDIOTS DECIDED TO TREAT PEOPLE POOR AND SOME BEING GROSS FOR THE PEOPLE GETTING TREATED BAD MUST OF BEEN COOL OR NICE BUT THE GROSS BITCHES JUST WALK-IN AND BE RUDE AND GROSS I THINK THR ONES WHO HAVE BEEN TREATED GROSSLY OR GETTING YELLED AT Make videos with this link and discuss of how they are treating you and other fans will help you feel better #GODZITALK
