The biggest discrimination is within the mental health system itself. Scotland has terrible mental health laws and the MHTS is an appalling abuse of human rights which has no place in a fair and free country.
The level of stigma attached to invisible mental health in particularly is eye wateringly astronomical!! Now you know why it contributes to a large degree of suicides aswell as drug abuse, the highest in Europe sadly! The more soundbites and PR appearances on the Scottish mainstream news that seek out appearing to provide awareness and constantly reminding us of the scale of the problem are sadly are at a loss on a plan of action that are often ignored despite of the reassurances from the Scottish Executive in order to deflate public scrutiny! This is sadly an ever familiar merry-go-round that one can begin to set their watches by!
This is such a battle for so many people, and it's a condition that can be heavily guarded by a fortress of emotions, making it harder to spot, or even harder for people to reach out. I was more than happy to take part and also contribute to this years Mental Health Awareness week. I wrote and recorded a song "Someone Help Me Out", specifically for this cause, to highlight & offer support, and should anyone want to listen or have a copy, it's also available as a free download. Stay Blessed. Dr LK.

I reckon the person behind this video was a woman. In my mental health group we have four women and four men. I'm a man with bipolar but I don't get why they had to all be women. While I was institutionalised there was loads of women though, there were only two men in all of Gartnavel hospitals mental ward, me included, and about 12 women. I read somewhere that bipolar is more common in women too, and there was a lot of lassies that had been/where going through domestic abuse in there. I kind of like the statistics. The statistics make me think I'm special when compared to more common conditions and syndromes like Autism. Autism is much more readily understood by the general public but I think we're getting there with bipolar and schizophrenia nowadays.
"So lets just talk about it." I loved that line and the stanza that followed it was awesome. I loved the energy and power you put into this. Well done, keep writing and putting in so much power.
