RC Cars, RC Crawlers, Matchbox, How Wheels, Tonka, and Tool Reviews.

Bill's Workbench, formally Read The Factory Manual, is about making, restoring, customizing, and sometimes destroying things!

I started customizing and restoring Matchbox, Hot Wheels, and Tonka toy cars and trucks after reminiscing on his childhood playing, destroying, smashing, and just being a kid playing with these great toys. After seeing Marty Matchbox Makeovers, he decided he could do that too. He jumped in headfirst and started making videos and learning new and better ways to bring these toys back to life.

Hello great video! I’ve been watching your channel and have finally built up the courage to try to convert one of my rcs to brushless. I’m looking to convert this micro b for a good price that will give me good quality but also won’t be super expensive but I have no idea where to start because I have never done this before and I’m hoping you could give me some advice? And possibly name some brands of esc, motor and everything I might need
@BillsWorkbench
@BillsWorkbench 5 дней назад
I would not recommend moving to brushless yet on the Micro B. Maybe in a few weeks. The 55T motor upgrade is well worth the money to upgrade to and to learn how to disassemble and reassemble the car. When you move to brushless you need a new radio, ESC, motor, pinion and radio tray. I am still waiting for the right pinion for my brushless setup. Once I get the correct pinion and one that stays on the motor, I will update everyone, with a part 3 of this series and give all the parts you need. I will also put together a part 4 of this series that takes you from stock to brushless.

How does that cheap ESC feel for delay and throttle control? Any settings you were able to find for programming? I looked it up on amazon and it mentions it has settings but no one can seem to find them to adjust.
@BillsWorkbench
@BillsWorkbench 6 дней назад
I have not tried to adjust it yet. I did find that I needed it to be reversed on the motor and radio to get the "break" to almost work. Otherwise, it just kicks in to reverse when you use the break and take a "double clutch" to get it going forward again. The pinion is the big problem. I think I found an 8 and 11-tooth pinion that should work. Fingers crossed.

I will be receiving my Micro Bs today, so I haven't even really gotten the chance to look at it in person yet. I certainly hope that you are able to find a solution to this quandary. For me, i am not sure I would need any extra torque or speed, but the thought of going back to maintaining a brushed motor for peak performance is not relished. Please keep us updated if/when you find something that works. I am really excited about the proposition of a brushless setup. BTW! I spoke yesterday with Horizon Hobby, and asking about a brushless option, it doesn't look like there will be an official option available; though in fairness the tech did later sort of retract the statement by saying they were neither confirming nor denying that Losi will come out with one. So don't take my comments with TOO much seriousness, because the tech may/may not know what they are talking about.
@BillsWorkbench
@BillsWorkbench 18 дней назад
I am still looking for an excellent brushless solution. I am almost there, just need to get the Pinion figured out. However, the RC world is very different today than it was years ago. It's like everything else it's becoming disposable. Which is unfortunate in may aspects. But with that said, I found a 55T brushed motor that was made for the SCX 24 crawlers that add a bunch of punch to the Micro B, enough that it's noticeable. That motor is inexpensive and not serviceable, but by the time it fails, there will be another upgrade to do or get a replacement of that motor. This is the motor I am talking about: amzn.to/4dARrEB
@setdragons
@setdragons 18 дней назад
You are so right. Things have changed so much within just 10 years or so (how long it has been since I picked up my RC stuff, because of other hobbies). Did you replace a brushed with another brushed fir giggles, or were you having issues with the stock motor? As for myself, I am not really concerned about a brushed replacement (short of house brand). I still have some new motors from back in the day when I raced Xmods and Mini-Zs. The Tamiya Plasma Dash motors were the ship back in the day. I am not certain that they would line up, but they are relatively similar sized, and shape as well. And boy do they add some real punch (and top end) to both brands mentioned. Of course I would also jave to play with gearing as well. Have you messed with the spur and/or the pinion yet, or is there not enough room for anything but smaller gears in there?
