FF13 is such a weird case because although I do agree that there are some glaring issues that holds it back from reaching its full potential it still somehow really resonated with me to the point of being one of my favorite games. It's crazy because I haven't played it in a decade or so but it still feels fresh in my mind as if I only played it yesterday. Such a magical game.
@@skipx Same. I just wish they would port it to modern consoles already. Every other mainline FF game is available except for this one. It makes no sense.
Are they going to do a subject x game?! I would play if I could if it ever came out but my mom is determined to keep video games out of the house the end would be great because then they could reveal who she is I think she is Skuld
i still think the plot, but mostly the ending of FF13 is the worse, i played it completely and like the battle system (even though i prefer the fighting of the second one) and the character, but the story make no sense even seen from the point of view of the team. They know destroying orphan will destroy cocoon and keep saying they want to save cocoon, ok they want to kill barthandelus so they need to kill his fusion with orphan, but by doing so they will destroy cocoon. In the end they do save cocoon with ragnarok, but how did they know it will happen. nowhere did it mention ragnarok would save cocoon, most text refer to ragnarok as the destroyer of the world. so they shot in the dark and it worked... I guess you could say they knew they would become crystal after finishing their focus, but how would they know the crystal would be big enough to old cocoon in the air. Even then all the other member came out of the crystal except vanile and fang which again why? because they want to? it's my biggest pet peeves about the game, them wanting to find another way even if they keep following barthandelus very obvious plan toward the middle and being save by pure random luck that nobody knew existed.
Ff13 sucked because when party leader wipes the whole battle is a wipe even if you got 99 phoenix downs, and the reduction in magic spells. The linaer aspect was fine, battle system was fine, even removing levels was fine. Its just the whole party leader thing that made the game suck. I lost to the final boss so much just because my leader took a hit while the other two are at full health.
FF XIII is one of my favorite games, ever. The story, the music, the gameplay, the happy but not so happy ending, everything. But XIII-2 and Lighting Returns, in my opinion, ruin the first game (story wise)
Thank you for this video! I rarely admit it but FFXIII-2 is probably my all time favorite FF game. So emotional. On a technical note though how did you get these games to run so smoothly on your video?
Mods on PC that make the games easier to run also there are HD/4k texture mods for FF13 and 13-2 that make everything look sharper without changing the look of the game. Also FF13-2 has a mod that pushes the game to 60 FPS. Also tweaking the settings.
Honestly, I never even gave it a chance. I was just a hater from day 1 for no particular reason. It’s like….12 bored me to death, and I just decided to lump 13 in there with it. Whoops. But I’m genuinely willing to maybe give it a chance now. Lightning seems cool, and so does the Dragoon chick. As a woman, this game has so much girl power without seeming annoying about it, I don’t know why I shouldn’t play it!
I love FF 13 series, beat 13 years ago played it again on steam deck, then I got all 3 on ps3 a few days ago was trying to get past FF13-2 first encounter of Caius last night. I can’t burn him fast enough before he heals lol. Great video btw and yes the main issue during release was the Linear gameplay from previous games. It didn’t bother me I loved it when it launched still probably my Favorite in the series
Thank you for the compilation. Otherwise i wouldnt have seen them all lol. Personally i enjoyed all three. I still listen to the trilogy's OSTs when i need to get work done
I'm not speaking for everyone but I feel a lot of the hate for Ff13 stems from the Ff7 Ps3 tech demo existing at the time. Where I'm from a lot of the discourse surrounding the game was just trashing it unfairly because it wasn't Ff7. I personally love 13 and 13-2. LR had enough problems that I just couldn't like it (still got the plat for all 3 though 😂). If the 13 trilogy remaster rumors are true I'll play them just to see if time changes my mind about LR.
I agree with that statement about the FF7 tech demo. Funnily enough, FF7 Remake uses a lot of design elements from the FF13 series, and everyone loves it. So I think there's some truth to that statement.
Somehow after over 10 years I'm still as impressed by the art direction in this series as I was way back in the day on the PS3. Seriously one of the most beautiful worlds ever created in games.
Oh, that's why I didn't recognize your thumbnail, you changed it from the... omg I can't remember the art word for a depiction of oneself from the chest up. Bust? Self-Canvas? But yeah, I'm glad to hear your voice again.
I think FF13 might be my favorite FF world. The only thing I don't like about Lightning Returns is that when you go back and replay the first game, it's horrifying to think what a long and painful fate these characters will have.
Almost finished with a fresh playthrough of XIII. Oerba feels like a precursor to NieR. That said, the problem with XIII is the terrible dialogue. The concept is great but the characters have little development. It can also be absurdly difficult and the battles go on for far too long. Some bosses have over 10 M HP! Lightning Returns is genius though and XIII-2 was super inventive.
Oerba gives off Nier like vibes, but the games are released within a year of each other, so I don't think there's much cross-over when it comes to staff. Also, I agree with your statement when it comes to optional bosses, but I felt like the main story bosses were fine. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The second game is very good and shows how much potential the first game had. The third one could be incredible. If they change things I would love to give another chance, because even though I hate the first game, the second is very good.
Excellent analysis on FF XIII. It was my first FF game and the first one to come out on Xbox. I really liked the way the narrative matches the linear gameplay. It was ambitious for '09 and absolutely still holds up as one of the most enjoyable FF games of all time.
@@moatezmoussi9751 ff15 those stories weren’t memorable the fighting was nothing trash compared to ff7 remake ff13-2 and 13 so I mean idk I can’t say I got my moneys worth from ff15 the newest I won’t waste my time lol
As for XV, I think Promptos story was pretty intense and memorable to me. Granted, I think what was missing from XV, was integrating the additional stories and lore better into the game without having to go out of your way with add on content and other mediums. Although, it didn’t do that much anyway in the end. Personally, I like the XV was open world and maybe it’s a product of its time since I think open world games were really at the peak. I liked that change. In the end, I took at as it is and enjoyed it. Now XVI? Woo this one was different Out of all the final fantasy games I played, i couldn’t wait what happens next. Kinda like a series if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t say it was open world more action I would say and I like that change where you only control Clive for the most part. I liked that this story was more mature and stuff.
All 3 of these games are some of my favs ever. I can see what turns ppl away from them but I can't see the need to hate them. Some of my most enjoyable experiences from a game.
I like the first game story, but the gameplay was bland. Which is strange, cause as the sequels came out, the gameplay improved but the story took a nosedive
I feel you on that but FF13-2 suffer from bing connected to too many games. But I think Lighting Returns did a great job of finishing off what they had to work with.
I love Final Fantasy 13. I don’t know why it gets so much hate. I thought it was an amazing series. I was actually heartbroken when my PS3 got the yellow light of death while I was in completion mode/the hunts, after completing the game. Thus I never got a chance to 100% it😢
Damn. Sorry about your completion runs. Honestly, I just think FF13 was just bad timing. I think the trilogy will get a better reception like 12 if it gets a remaster.
Zettaflare is the most powerful and destructive AOE spell in all of Final Fantasy. It's an AOE spell that's capable of destroying entire worlds, and the only character that can use Zettaflare infinitely, that being Airy, receives the energy to do so from a literal GOD OF DESTRUCTION, and everytime she uses it on screen, alternate timelines are destroyed. Just to give anyone who doesn't know a sense on how powerful this spell is, Bahamut, who literally destroys the world in FF14, uses a Terraflare. A Zettaflare is ONE BILLION times stronger than a Terraflare, and not only did Donald duck manage to use the most powerful spell in the entire Final Fantasy series TWICE, he also somehow managed to turn the most powerful and destructive AOE spell in ALL OF FINAL FATANSY into a CONCENTRATED DEATH RAY just to vaporize a man, and I say that because the beam of an Exaflare is said to be as big as the moon, and that's just an Exaflare. It's likely just a mistake, but if it isn't, then Donald Duck literally concentrated the power of Zettaflare into a much more focused and insanely powerful death ray beam just to vaporize Terra. Donald duck is way too powerful.
I agree that Wuk Lamat isn't a bad character but was instead used badly in the story. She was treated too familiarly, too fast. They wanted us to love her, without giving us enough reasons to love her, and without giving us enough of a break from her to miss her. The voices being off English: Some of the voice work if it was done in 2023 was likely slated to be done during the SAG-AFTRA strikes. It either had to be delayed until those were over, or cancelled outright. In the case of Y'shtola's VA, she literally "phoned it in" and recorded those remotely, either due to sickness or something else.
I loved it too... I just think the stuff with Luk Wamat and the rite of passage took too long, also a few characters could have used more screen time, particularly Koana, Zoraal Ja, and Sphene... I also think Wuk Lamat had little to no pushback on her ideals and world views and things were just handed to her. I did like her character and English voice acting tho. I wish the stuff with solution 9 and living memory was longer. I do realize the WoL took a back seat in this one. But I like how it ended, where you're looking at a map and smirking. It's almost like you realized something and decided what the next course of action is. In the end, you end up with the key and we see Sphene's crown. I hope this isn't the last we see of her, the endless or living memory. Part of me felt that part of the story with the 12th was half-baked. And I hope they revisit it in the future. I cut this DLC some slack because there are a number of routes they can take the story. Despite some pacing issues, I consider most of this expansion world-building. So I cut it some slack. They can still do some stuff with the High Seraphs and Azem.
I liked bakool jaja. I didn't hate wuk lamat... She's a bit annoying but she's meant to be young and naive... I hated koana.... And I know this might be a bit odd.. But I kinda hated that neither of the two new rulers are mamool ja...
I hated how little time the scions got or meaningful engagement. What's the point of having friends if they don't get to do anything. If it was just the WoL and Wuk/Koana would've been better imo
@S0ulC41ib3r Agreed the twins didn't really serve a purpose in this story. I feel like Krile and Erenville were fine because of how important they are to the second half of the story. But if the twins arrive in Tural when Graha'Tia and Y'shtola come the story 95% the same.
I hated how far in the background the WoL was. I'm fine with taking a step back and more or less only interfering if shit hits the fan but for me this was too much. Wuk Lamat more or less took our spot and there was nothing left for us really. I think if we had just more time for us with "true" adventuring like the beginning of the wild west zone, our own agenda and wants then it would have been better. Instead we were just "there" with no real meaning other then follow Wuk Lamat and be told what to do at every step. She more or less did all the WoL was known for (interacting with the NPC's, overcoming all odds and standing in the centre of every scene) and quite a number of those things only work for the WoL because they are the player character and not an NPC. What I liked was the dungeons and trials. They are a step up from before. i also liked most of the zones (the Mamool Ja zone gave good Xenoblade vibes tbh). Good video by the way I liked the clear structuring.
@hawgacrux I respect your opinion, but personally, I didn't mind talking a step back at this point. We've seen how our character helps others and overcomes the odd enough, in my opinion. Also, if the WOL is going to be back in the spotlight. There needs to be a threat worthy of that, and at that point, we would be rewriting the entire story of Dawntrail. Personally, I think 14 is setting up something so that we'll need other strong characters like Zero, Wuk Lamat, etc. For a giant confrontation down the line. Also, I loved the dungeons of this expansion, and the Mamool Ja is definitely a new favorite of mine.
@@skipx I don't mind people liking that approach or even DT in itself. Even I think it had good ideas and themes. For me it's just not an RPG anymore if my character has no agenda and is just "there" to be a camera. That is the point where I wonder why I even play that story or why I even have my own character in this game when they don't matter anymore. But oh well, what happened that happened. I wait for 7.3 and onwards to look where all this leads and what the future approach will be.
1:41 damn, after a few days of again kh researching I just heard “realm of light” here and that Soras voice couldn’t reach MoM was talking about a place where “no eyes can see nor voice can reach”, I think that could be the realm of light. I love to see where we go with this, but with the pacing I guess kh ends in plus 20 years, so there’s that guys 😂 See y’all then 👋
9:04 I so hope they include Marvel/Alien&Predator next time ! 👌😂 Star Wars could be more likely but with the resonance lately, we see 👌 but Sora and crew with Mando on the way, kinda writes itself 😅
Definitely was whiplash after playing Xenoblade 3 and then playing this. I was like oh I definitely have been spoiled by Xenoblade. Tales of arise was only being held up by its combat mechanics I feel like
