After 28 years, I retired from the USAF at the rank of Colonel. This channel chronicles my Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike during 2016, my 2017 AT Flip-Flop, as well as my interests in all thing survival, bushcraft, and the great outdoors - and of course family. At Blue Mountain on the AT, mile 50.5, I earned by trail name "Big Bird."
I was looking for scenes of a road up around this area which has a very steep drop-off. I have been on that stretch of road and I thought its name had "Paradise" in it, but I might be mistaken. It is in that area, not far from Crested Butte. I saw that one of my friends who has moved to Minnesota was on what looked like the stretch of road I'm thinking of, but I wanted to ask her if it IS that stretch...and can't remember its name. Maybe you know.
Just want to give you a heads up. It's best to keep the hood closed when you're running your compressor. Opening the hood on the 4XE shuts off charging to the 12v battery and starts the engine as a safety precaution. You can end up draining your 12v this way if you pull enough power. Instead keep your hood closed so the IDCM module maintains charge to your 12v battery since we don't have an alternator on our engines like a traditional vehicle would. All the charging is coming from the high voltage battery to the 12v so we don't want to stop that while running the compressor.
I am going to work on that. I have a broken L5 and have been in a lot of pain the last 18 months. I am getting it fused mid july and after a 6 month recovery I hope to be able to resume backpacking in 2025
@@soaringeagleoutdoors sorry to hear that. I hope everything goes well. I have been doing section hikes on the AT when I can. I did Amicola falls to Neel Gap so far. Sassafras is no joke. Next year I will finish georgia after I retire. Then I will head to West Virginia and go north. I took all your trail comments and noted them in my guthook guide. Hopefully someday you finish the AT. I will follow that one for sure.
Great Video. I just got a 2024 ORP and it has everything that I wanted, but after ordering the Lumo airbed and watching videos, I realized that I need something to level the rear. So, looked for a video to see how this works and if it is worth it. Thank you for a great insightful video!
I bought a different brand does your lift gate glass hit it when you open it? I have several buddies who have that same rack you have, and they have all said that there lifts gate glass hits the rack! So unless they adjust it to the very front of the tire or as far from the glass as possible it’s going to hit. How much weight dose your rack say it supports? Dose your rack need a HD tire hanger to support the weight of items it holds? Thanks for the reply and looks good on your Jeep!
I do have the tailgate reinforcement because I have the oversizemtirea. I am not sure how much weight it can carry, but in,eep it less than 30 lbs I have to be careful and open it all the way or it will have a glass hit
What I used to do is get the precooked meals and use them. I forget the braqnd name, but now the same product is the Hormel "Completes". Precooked, sealed, works very well. Not THE answer, but great in combination with other foods. Furthermore, get a vacuum sealer. Rival makes a good one. Instead of using the ziplock bags, which even the freezer bags are temperature sensitive, you have a more heavy duty plastic bag. Put the meal in it, vacuum seal it, and when you're ready you cut the end off and add water. Stir well & then, using a binder clip, close it somewhat and put it upright in a pan of water. Bring the water to a boil, and you're now heating your meal. You can fix an entire dinner this water and not waste drinking water as regular creek water can be used to boil as you're not consuming the creek water.
If you watch the real time MPG when you are in electric mode it says 99 mpg. Obviously that is not correct but I think that contributes to the confusion.
It’s not the most efficient Stove If that’s ones absolute priority but it’s amazingly light and small and you can get it dirt cheap as I said in my other post.
If I remember right, the light and camera relocation are part of a kit - I recommend calling Teraflex customer service and they can probably get you the part
agreed. it's huge pita to figure out fuel economy of these 4xe's when in hybrid mode. I end up driving in e-save most of the time (as electricity here is 0.55-0.65 /kwH) and use the electric for either 1) quiet around town or neighborhood or 2) power when I need it. E-Save mode generally gives me about 19MPG around where I live in the foothills, 3000' elevation.
Great video, thank you! I was deciding if I wanted one for the 2024 TRD Pro I am going to order, and now I know I do! So glad you showed the good and bad.
I just don’t use it much. When need most it is loaded down and can be really difficult to extend and not worth the trouble. I am removing the back seats and slider and replacing it with a full flat surface for more usable space. My old Honda Element had more and better cargo space including being able to sleep in back. Also the split tail gate was very useful.
@@ray-iv8vs $300 to $500. It would probably cost $200 to ship. I haven't posted it to local 4runner group which would be easiest for everyone involved.
Thx for the vid. Am considering RSG for my TRD PRO too. What does the space between the top of the sliders and bottom of the body measure? Also, how far out does the kick out measure beyond the stock tires you are running?
I don’t know what to say about the finish of the paint, but mine is flawless even after 40,000 miles and two years. Yours looks like it was built either here or in Mexico lol. I have dogs and we keep them in the trunk and they come in and out and no tripping whatsoever. It looks like new. Also, they did fix the lights and the fitting. It’s not a problem at all. It looks perfect. infotainment which is bigger and has android auto, which is great for Mabs, and the above the infotainment dashboard are used to put my phone and watch either news or movies.
I’m about to do this as well, I’ve got a 4xe, stuck between 2.5 and 3.5 RT lifts. Are you happy with the stability of the 3.5? Is there anything you would do different with the lift? Did you regear with the 37’s?
