On this channel I do reviews and how-to's on a variety of electronic gadgets. These include action cameras, video accessories such as microphones and lighting, and radio related topics of interest to ham and GMRS radio operators.
@GadgetTalk4U - I hope you don't mind but I've linked to your review from mine as you've done the interface stuff far more justice than I ever could :)
The J-Pole antenna is ineffective. J-Pole they are not omni-directional, and they do not have any gain over a ground plane antenna. In fact, they usually have a small loss compared to a ground plane. Also they aren't very robust. The power goes through the matching system, which is balanced, and then to the unbalanced radiator. This mixture of balanced and unbalanced often distorts the radiation pattern. It also makes matching a challenge.
I have several UV-5Rs and bought the UC-21R and bought it as much for the expanded accessories as the extended range. I plan to use it in home, rather than outside as the manuel states rain will damage it - also, Amazon says it is not waterproof as are the UV-5Rs. This UV-21 are good for auto or home - keep her dry.
New question. recently i did a repeater update using the software. After radio rebooted it only displayed the repeaters and not the names that I entered for each repeater. Can you advise me on how to get names to display again?
I have just tried to flash the firmware, but it failed. I tried to turn on the radio, but it couldnt be turned on. When I tried to flash the radio again, the software notification said, "radio not detected". Is there any possibility that my radio can be normally turned on again? Thanks in advance 🙏🙏
You may have bricked it. Especially if it was third party firmware. Try taking the battery out and letting it sit a day to make sure all components are discharged. It's a long shot, but...
@@GadgetTalk4U When two house apartments are in a single building, that's called a duplex, when the apartments are separate from each other, there called diplex housing. rozumiesz?
I really enjoy FRS radios like this for large groups. Skiing with a big group and want to stay in touch? Hand these out. I bought a Baofeng FRS on sale last year for something like $8 a piece and handed them out to everyone in our group. Non radio people don’t struggle with them at all. Super useful.
I am new on gmrs, and I have a question related to transmitters, my son live 15 miles away from my house , to comunícate to him I need to use a transmitter near me, once I connect to transmitter, my son needs to have a transmitter to in order to receive my signal ? Or is good enough with one person using the transmiter ?? I appreciate your help
I could definitely tell a difference. Maybe it’s because I rely on audio, due to blindness? I’m not sure. The FRS to GMRS sounded much lower and quality.
I use the banana plugs for studs or lugs to attach the alligator clips from an inexpensive Amazon multi- chemistry charger. You could easily clip off the alligator clips and add a connector of your choice such as Anderson power poles, etc.
I'm very new to this. just got my 5G plus (just like one you have on the far right at the beginning of your video) and I'm just trying to figure out how to sync/connect the channels to just use them as radios.?
You should be able to simply select a channel and talk. Some models come with CTCSSS or DCS codes preprogrammed. That's a pain. Look at the radio's display and see if there is an icon for either of those two things showing. (Check the instructions for what they look like.) Either way, just work through the channels and check menu items 10 trhough 14. Set each menu item to off for each channel. That is the most likely issue. If you have a programming cable and the free downloadable CPS. do the same thing. I find the CPS is a bit faster. If you're new to CPS's just go through the menus for each channel. Good luck.
you give so much knowledge that you share for person like myself that are a start up self employ thanks to you and youtube, I have to learn much by myself by watching yours videos thanks.
Or we can call them what the manufacturer calls them. Since, unlike ham radio, where any transmit frequency can go in any channel, DIY seems appropriate as a customized but specified transmit frequency.
I think mine is defective. It transmits fine on simplex 2m, but I can't trigger a repeater practically across the street. I'm using the same exact configuration that works on 3 other radios.
Since you have other radios, set one to receive on the repeaters input frequency and with its uplink tone. If that other radio doesn't receive and the green light doesn't come on, your H3 is set wrong or is broken. If the green led illuminates, but you get no words, your uplink code is wrong.
@@GadgetTalk4U Thanks for the idea. I tried it and the 2nd radio does receive the signal. I know the CTCSS is right, so I don't know why it's not tripping the repeater.
@@GadgetTalk4U More info: It just tripped the repeater. I heard the response on my 2nd radio, but not on the H3. And now it's not tripping the repeater again. This is such a weird problem.
@@GadgetTalk4U Update. If I trip the repeater with my 2nd radio, I hear the response on the H3. But if I try to trip it with the H3, nothing on the H3 or 2nd radio. I've contacted support.
I scored a Ramco hard case with spring loaded metal handle . Originally this particular case housed a very early starlight viewing optic . The overall construction of the box is tank line and the air pressure release valve is a really nice bit of purple anodized aluminum . I will use this video and build as my go to for my build , thank you !
As I understand the rules, yes, unless you are an agent of a foreign government. If you represent another country such as working in an embassy, then no. Not legal advice, just my reading of the rules.
For sometime, I've considered building my own battery box but as pointed out, the cost of components and the assembly was more expensive in time and money than I wanted ro spend. Now that I've reviewed this video, I'm, convinced that for the price on DX Engineering, the money would be well spent but above all, there's room for expansion of not only a bigger battery, but for other accessories too. Great overview.
Howdy from Prescott, AZ. Just ordered this radio because my ham license just expired after 10 years and want to communicate more with the off road community who are all switching to GMRS it seems. Great review/setup video. Many thanks. Subscribed. 73, KK6DKQ
I wouldn't trust TIDRADIO. They've been caught SEVERAL times doing shady crap and using bad software that is required to program some of their radios that SPIES on the consumers personal information.
I have already made several HamClocks on old tablets with Intel Atom processors, some of which can be bought for as little as $10. Normally, instead of Windows 8.1, I install Debian X11, and HamClock runs great. This is much cheaper than an RPi or ESP32 and some LCD screens.
