Bond Street in the south of the town was a great little shopping area back then, Today it's mostly boarded up shops and gone very down hill. I still ♥️ Blackpool though.

If British people were allowed to discuss immigration or actually vote in a referendum, maybe there would be no mobs taking to the streets.

This is a nice piece. Me and my friends often came across to Blackpool on a whim and book into a guesthouse. The Palace was our favourite place, this was the late ‘80s. Thank you for sharing this video.

Is there a pub that burned down? My parents had a caravan in Cleveleys in the late 50s. I was trying to find out where it was. All I know is that it was near the hotel.

Lived through this time in Blackpool. The 1980’s represented the last of the best decades for the Town. Times were better back then, I don’t care what anyone says. Like all decades, the 1980’s had its problems, but Blackpool was thriving and buzzing back then. The town had a record number of visitors in 1988. Look at all those shops. Where did they go! Great time to grow up, the best time in fact. I was very lucky. 1989 marked the beginning of the end for my great town, and for a multiplicity of different reasons, some political, some shifts in demand, whatever, the town has never recovered. Meanwhile, the region’s cities, no go areas in the 1980’s are awash with attractions, hotels and glass towers. What went wrong?

Typical Blackpool council have decided to build another hotel instead of thinking about locals once again ££kerching but no proper markets have made this town less holiday makers each year ? Complete idiots remember when Blackpool had 6 markets now 1 aimed at weekend gatherings at winter gardens Rip Blackpool and you got the council to thank over the 30 years of running this town down to the residents of whole Blackpool thanks for turning all the main shops to hotels as if we ain't got enough hotels as it is ? Think of profit at time but no idealogy of how this town prospers only to be taken away idiots

Slight correction, the shot of a tram in Fleetwood would have been the 80's as the tram in question (Bolton 66) only arrived in the Blackpool in 1981. Enjoyed pictures generally though.

so sad so many fine theatre buildings in ordinary towns never mind seaside resorts are gone, replaced by those aircraft hangar Exhibition centres where only the first ten rows can remotely see anything. Even the grand survived as a bingo hall before being saved. Its all reality stars & presenters nowadays, no talent & easily disposable.

Actually quite run down, reminds me of a place we have here in Christchurch called "New Brighton" was a seaside shopping mall of 5 or 6 blocks, was popular from 50s to 80s as it allowed Saturday shopping when it was banned elsewhere. Now its all sleazy and run down, homeless, dodgy pubs with pokie machines, $2 shops etc. $2 shop kiwi version of Poundland.

What a comparison as to being a kid teenager in 70s once great, now a forgotten ghost town. Summers were better in 70s whichever resort you were holidaying.

My parents took me and my brother here in about 1973, i was 9 and it was the best holiday ever. We stayed in the Seafield hotel. I still remember the family room we all slept in. I remember too winning the donkey derby and claiming a draught set as my prize. Brilliant brilliant times

Remember, it's not Blackpool's fault. It's the rotten, greedy people who have mismanaged it. Where has all the money gone? Are we talking about corruption at the highest levels? BUT, it's not just Blackpool, is it? North of London is one big shithole.

And today, with all the spent (or wasted), you could film a dystopian movie. Blackpool councillors, over the last 30 years, have a lot to answer for. They have trashed the place. Blackpool could, and should be one of the best places in the country to live.

So true and don't forget Grandad sat on the beach sweltering in a suit, collar and tie, flat cap on and smoking St Bruno in his pipe. That''s if he was alive and not stuffed into a care home because his family are too busy to look after him like many today.

So sad to watch this. I remember Blackpool when it was a busy bustling town, with happy memories. Look at it in 2024, hardly anybody on the beaches in Summer. It has become a shithole. Last time I was there, even the donkeys had left !
