Well Thank You... I see you hopped on here from the C64 video :-). It seems we Amiga and Commodore enthusiasts are very commonly also into Amateur Radio :-)... I have also gotten into Linux since maybe 18 years ago and permanently since 12 years ago. Linux is like the Amiga to me now..it is sooo awesome. Left Amiga in 2008 and Apple.....although I used MacOS and Linux Interchangeably until I replaced all my Mac apps with Linux ones satisfactorily.

@@eijentwun5509 You're welcome. And yes, I wanted to see if you had any videos on your channel and the first one I saw was this one. For me after using the C64 and Apple II's, I jumped to DOS computers, then Windows for personal use. For work now in present day I use Windows and also on the server side Linux. Keep up the fun content on your channel.

Loved this video as it shows how simply this can be done. Even with <5W, an outdoor antenna can do very well for you. Of course, your propagation is gonna be limited by the building(s) in some directions, but will be a heck of a lot better than using a stock antenna indoors. I've done similar but spent a bit more money. I'm using a Wouxan GMRS HT which sits in it's cradle plugged into an extension cord. Out of the antenna connection I run a lighter-weight patch cable to an amplifier that I bought used online (430-512MHz). Out of that amp, there's some LMR400 ultraflex cable that goes up into my attic, where it connects to an Ed Fong GMRS antenna rated to 75W. The HT puts out 4W or so, and I'm getting 35W out of the antenna in my attic which about 30+' off the ground. Total overkill since we have a GMRS repeater about one mile away, and all my HT's can hit it from indoors, but it gives us great simplex coms to HT's we can use all well beyond the neighborhood, Anyway, I loved this video as it shows how very easily this can be done with an HT and a $25 antenna from amazon. The paper-clip mounting point was a novel idea and no beating the cost factor! Sharing this vid with some friends. Thank you for it!

If I may recommend, if you're still using it on the go as well, keeping a 3800 Mah battery. Longer lasting. But love the setup!

Hi! Your installation is interesting. Out of curiosity, I saw that you used a battery eliminator. Can't we use the radio while it's charging on the regular power supply? For example using it on a table or bench while it charges from the socket? Thank you for the vídeo!
@eijentwun5509
@eijentwun5509 Год назад
I have not tried that...I suppose you can, but that base is so flimsy and wiggly, you would have to place a sticky under the walkie when its in the base for more stability. You would save quite a bit of money if that works...try and let me know...you would have to let it run for hours to know the battery isnt actually running out and infact is continually charging.

@@eijentwun5509 I think the limiter would be the temperature of the battery/device while charging/transmitting. Well, if I find out anything else I'll let you know. Again, thanks for the video! 📻 73! 👍

I find it funny how he says it's a radio illegal radio then says this is my license to use it and my mom and brother can use it well then if you have the license it's not illegal as long as you have a gmrs radio license which don't let anyone tell you otherwise you can get for jus 35 dollars no testing required and it's good for ten years plus yes as he said in the video your mom and brother can use it

Just want to clarify I was not calling him out I just know he was trying to say it's a legal radio cause many people think they are illegal but the are fully legal he just said illegal which I thought was funny

There are already videos on this.... Look up the user: NotARubicon on youtube and type CHIRP. CHIRP is a software you should get for your Computer if you have WIndows, MacOS or Linux. it is great and updated twice a month and makes it easier to program the Baofeng UV-5R. Get it here: chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home

I really like how you did this! I just ordered an eliminator kit and 120v to 12v convert, 10amp. I live 12 miles from the repeater, non-line of sight. Not best conditions for a HT. So I am looking at putting up a, 12dbi gain, beam antenna.

@@eijentwun5509 same here, I like that kg1000g. Got to save up for that. Don't know if you know, but there are amps for HTs. 2-6watt in and 20-40w out, more like 18-20w to be honest. However the amps cost as much as a 20-25w mobile🤷
