Stacy Westfall's approach is so much better than Parelli's Her horse associates her with calmness 100% of the time; Parelli gets the horse all riled up, anxious, frightened and eventually relaxed. The emotional association a horse has with a handler stays with them.

It's a whip no matter what you want to call it. But even a whip can be used in a gentle way by an intelligent person. I knew a man who trained all his horses by putting their feed in a trailer from the day they were born and by their mama. None of his horses ever objected to loading.

I'd like to see you walk into a tack shop and ask for a "stick and string".

Worked like a charm on my two horses that did not want to load in a very small trailer. The only method that worked for me. Thanks a million.

Yes, she is taking her time to illustrate the need for handling 'you". The "you's" of the horse world are so opinionated and critical of any other person. What she is teaching is partially for your negative attitudes. For instance, tapping with the "stick" has to be explained in simple, repetitive, "this will not hurt the horse, see I can do it to my own shoulder" language or the observing "horse" critics will hit on that. so time must be taken up front for every move. Horse people are in general motivated by control. Whip, spurs, bits, sticks, lead ropes, all of this is about controlling a large animal. A special few as Stacy, and others, are willing to be patient, observe and analyze and develop methods. Those methods are all good. The general horse person as most of the viewers are in the " I need to control the horse, the trainer, my spouse, whoever. I just need to, that is to say " I, I, me, myself and no one else can do what I can do as I am the best. Could that be why God, the great spirit, the final energy source created horses? Could it be for our spiritual advancement? Look for the ones who can communicate to the horse (sentient being) and get it to work consistently, perform in strange surroundings not your own barn and own arena, etc. and with different personalities of horses of various ages to a specific goal. Doing this with out bute, herbs, as these trainers can do repetitively. Anyone can put a saddle on a horse and get on once or twice. The key is having the animal work and perform consistently on good or bad days, various horses and various tasks. When many of the critics understand this and dissolve the harsh "I know how to do this better, than you" attitudes and substituting acceptance and understanding, you simply fast forward and get to the point where you personally left off in your personal understanding. To be so harsh leads me to wonder how harsh you would be if it were you going to a show and knew you would be late and the horse is difficult to load at that moment. Compassion.

Okay, you talk way too much, and you're ineffective. I'll stick with Clinton Anderson's method.
@BarrelsPolesandJack

I'm not going to argue with you. She' s doing more talking than working with the horse, as well as not being very assertive. Not saying she's a bad horse trainer, just saying that she needs to pick up the pace a bit instead of rambling on and on and on. People who are new to horses usually don't like a person to just keep on talking; they want to SEE how to handle them, so that theory you gave me has just been disproved.

***** I think her talking is very helpful and informative. She tends to be much gentler and more respectful towards the horse than Clinton. Clinton is also first and foremost a salesman and I get tired of him trying to sell me his whip/saddle/tie ring every 5 minutes. I've also heard horror stories about horses that are trained by his clinicians. Also, keep in mind that Clinton makes his living off of teaching and making videos, so he is more comfortable selling himself in front of the camera than she is. Nonetheless, both are good trainers, and use similar methods. There is no need to subscribe to one particular training method when horses are individuals and all need customized approaches to training, not "one size fits all."

@@suzieparis6821 no, that's just a Rick Gore rumor. The baby is not taken away. However, Clint does go a bit overboard with some of his imprinting that isn't all that necessary.

Stacy..thank you so much for these videos. my life long dream was to be a trainer. but allergies and serious health issues (and old age) keeps my dream at bay. I was told i had between 5 to 10 yrs left to live. we are building a house on 6.5 acres. I'm going to try your methods for the fist time in my life with my older mares (26 and 18yrs) hopefully I can do something with them. you never know right? at least I'd be able to live my dream of training my horses before I go. thank you so much. :)

i don't think she is a pat parelli or clinton, i think she is a damn good trainer and is much more original and authentic than the two of them and is on a different level than they are, that level being much Higher i wouldn't be comparing her to them to begin with.
