Goldleaf is my passion, and I am on a journey to create beautiful artworks using this medium. Let me be your guide, and give you the tuition you need to discover how magical it can be to use. I've been an artist all my life, as a little girl growing up on the beach in the Caribbean, to now in mid-life living the dream with my own art studio in a village in England. I teach art and creativity to people who want to rediscover their inner artist, develop their skills, and achieve that satisfaction and passion. I hope you will be inspired by my content, whether to learn, to soothe the soul or absorb yourself in some mindful watching of the creative process. Online Art Course in Acrylic Painting is going to be launched soon - ZERO TO HERO To see more of my artwork which is sold worldwide, please go to www.louisedeanartist.store
Hi do u painton gold leaf? Is the acrylic paint working smooth for realistic type of painting on gold leaf? Or what type of paints you use nd brand also
hi - I paint onto the goldleaf. I normally paint my design in white acrylic and then layer ontop of that with either acrylics or oils. You can get a very realistic effect with goldleaf as the base. check out some of my other goldleaf videos where I have painted birds and flowers. My favourite brand for acrylics is Sennelier Abstract, and also Windsor and Newton. Get the best paints you can afford. Cheap acrylics don't have much body to them and can be disappointing. hope this helps!
Hi Louise, beautiful result! I love your little hummingbird! RU-vid is so clever, Ive been looking up chinoiserie for inspiration for a painting I am penciling out at the moment, and your channel has appeared! I’m happy I found you! Your work is a great inspiration! Kelly - Australia
@@kellydriver oh wow Kelly, that is so wonderful to hear! I started my RU-vid channel in 2020 and then kind of neglected it in the last Few years. Have just recommitted to it and so your feedback is much appreciated!! Louise
I love all you do! I don't have watercolors. Can I still do this painting in acrylic paints? I can't wait till you do your online course for the gold-leafing! I want to be one of your students. ❤
Thank you so much 🙏 I’m not on Skillshare but I am in the process of creating my first online Acrylic painting course! I’ll definitely be sharing the launch on RU-vid so “watch this space”. I have taught art to adults for 9 years, so looking forward to reaching out globally!
Love you’re video so much!!! I’m wondering if you still have those hummingbird paintings- my grandma passed away and she always hummed and I just love those pieces you made. Afraid I wouldn’t make one as pretty myself! 😊 I would love to buy one if possible :)
hi Shannon - ah, that's a lovely thought. Sorry for my late reply. I don't have those hummingbirds anymore but I can paint you one. Email me and we can discuss louise.j.dean@btinternet.com
If doing a “how to” video it would be helpful, especially with painting the flowers to actually show us how you planned where the flowers were going and how to paint them. Also helpful if you talked about the supplies and or brands using and why.
hi, thank you for the feedback. This was my first ever RU-vid video, and I kind of put videoing on the back burner after covid. Now I'm getting back into it and I will DEFINATELY take your suggestions on board!
I am so happy that you feel better from having had covid. You doggy is adorable too! I'll be patient and wait for you when you are ready to start your classes. I sketched the rose from your garden amazingly well. Bravo and Cheers to your amazing work! ❤🎉❤
hi, with this one I didn't varnish it. I was afraid to ruin it. In the couple of years that have passed since I did this project, I now use a gloss decorators varnish. One light coat.
These tutorials are fab thank you so much . I have been wanting to try this for years ! End up doing a coloured background. I have watched so many tutorials but yours are the best yet ! Massive thank you 🙏
Oh wow, that’s so nice to hear! I haven’t posted any new videos in 2 years, trying to make the time to get back into it. You’ve given me a much needed boost 🙏
Hi, emulsion paints are just wall paint! I often use the small test pots you get, which aren’t too costly. A suitable alternative would be acrylic paint. 🎨
Hi, thank you 🙏 in the last few years I have learnt a lot more about the gilding process. I’ve had a few mistakes with varnish! Now I use a light spray or sometimes I’ll actually apply 2 layers of goldleaf which makes it really tough.
Beautiful, elegant and delicate! And the music matched so well! For what it’s worth, I take the liberty to suggest that the subtitles stay a little longer. They go too fast not giving time to follow or incorporate the instructions. I’ve had to go to the settings to slow down the speed:) Thank you in advance!
Oh thank you so much ☺️ also for the useful feedback! I haven’t posted a video in 2 years and really want to start again so I will take that point onboard x
I’m glad this video showed up on my feed. I will be following your channel as of now. This painting is beautiful, as is the one in pink, and requires much patience. However, since I’m interested is learning how to apply gold leaf, I have a few questions. Is there a way to blend the squares and avoid having the edges shown? Would the colours not stand out had you not first painted in white? You don’t mention coating it with varnish to finish it off. But shouldn’t metal gold leaf be sealed to avoid it from oxidation? Thank you in advance. Looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful artwork!
Hi, and thank you for your interest and appreciation 🌸 I have ALOT of patience and love detailed work. I’ve learnt a lot in the 3 years since I created these. Unfortunately I have neglected my RU-vid channel but watch this space as 2024 is when I get back on it! I do have a tutorial on my channel which should answer some questions. With regard to blending the squares, recently I have actually been applying 2 layers of goldleaf so you get a completely smooth appearance. I’ll make a video of explanation. Chat again soon Louise
Hi, I find the artificial goldleaf quite resilient to marks but yes, occasionally I’ve had areas of tarnish which is upsetting. I now use a light coating of spray varnish or even apply to coats of goldleaf. So far I haven’t had any issues with paint tarnishing it 🌟
I see your hand leans against the gold leaf. You did not say but did you seal it before you painted the branches and flowers. I know the oils from your skin will leave marks.
I’m sure in many settings, the gold won’t end up in the air in too large of an amount, but based on my experience with mica powder & stuff like that (in considerably smaller quantities than what gold dust got wiped off this canvas), the safe thing would probably be to wear a respirator during that part of the process, &/or to do it in a well-ventilated space. I wouldn’t want to inhale a bunch of metal dust, pretty as it may be. Probably not as big a danger as working with epoxy or something like that, but I know mica powder can be a real respiratory hazard & I doubt this is entirely different, even if it’s heavier & less prone to becoming aerosolized. Beautiful effect though! I might have to try this sooner or later!
Hi, I’m sorry for my late reply 🙄 I’ve never used mica powder but that sounds interesting. Using goldleaf sheets is pretty safe to be honest. The leaf does crumble and flake but not small enough to inhale or cause respiratory trouble. Give it a try!
